Studio in San Marcos La Laguna

Excellent, 7 months ago

We stayed four nights in our casita. The place is in a great location. You can easily walk to the center of the village via the shore path. The private jetty is fantastic! We felt very comfortable.

Very beautiful location - we loved swimming and paddle boarding from the dock. There was a family there at the same time as us and it was lovely to have coffee with them in the mornings. The team on site were brilliant and there was great communication from the rest of the team, although we never met them. We highly recommend Tzankujil in San Marcos - it costs Q20 to enter but there are great places to jump in and swim. The walk there is easy, but be careful walking back to Casa Paloma after dark. The road is a dirt track and were chased by many stray dogs.

We were super happy with our stay at Casa Paloma. Everything lived up to our expectations and we absolutely did not want to leave. The only “problem” we had was that we wanted to book a trip through Erika. However, she never returned, despite several messages and personal contact. However, we would always recommend the place!

Hi Juliane, I am sorry to know that you wanted to book a trip but I was always aware of you during your stay. And never got a message of this trip. I arranged the boat trip for you and laundry service when you told me tour needed these services. I am sorry about this, we will be happy to have you stay with us again in the future.

The pictures are deceptive, this place is a glorified camping experience. All the amenities besides water and kayaks you have to pay for. There were plants growing through the roof in our room, leaves all over a desk, a dead cockroach in the shower, a pee stain on the sheets… we had to sleep in a bug net. We weren’t informed that all the amenities would be extra until the day before the booking when texted via whats app. This place would be worth the stay for $20 a night as it is. If the amenities are free and it’s managed better it could be worth more. If you go here, expect bugs and lots of walking up and down stairs

Unfortunately I know you left this bad rating because you had to pay for the use of the sauna, nowhere in our description does it say that the use of the sauna is free. We sent you all the information in advance of our additional services and costs. We have always been careful with the cleanliness of the houses. It is very sad that this is why you are leaving such bad comments when from the beginning we received you in the best way. I was always looking out for you during your stay and you never told me about these things when I asked you if everything was going well. We really hope that in the next places you stay you can be more communicative with these situations so that this does not happen and leave this bad rating when we always take care of these details and our guests. The entire team at casa paloma strives daily to make our guests feel comfortable and welcome, which is why we have good ratings overall on this platform. You are always welcome back!

If you are staying here solely for the beautiful views, this casita is well worth it! Everything about the room was beautiful. There were just a few things I wish I knew before booking: - if you don’t book meals well in advance, there is no way to find food on the property. They have a chef (Rosa) on site, but we were unable to book any meals with her. Ended up having to go into town for meals (about 3-4 flights of stairs up then a 10 min walk to San Marcos or 10-20 min lancha into town depending on which pueblo) - the stairs coming in and leaving the casita are no joke! Be prepared! - the communal kitchen is directly under this casita, and we did hear everyone using it - we only saw someone working in reception once in the 4 days we were here, but we were able to figure most problems on our own Overall, we both agreed that we would book this casita again. We would definitely be more prepared next time :) thank you Casa Paloma for a wonderful stay

It’s okay to stay in this room for 1 or 2 nights, but definitely not a week long. The house is built by bamboo, therefore there are huge gaps in between the walls and you’re basically out there camping. For one particular night we stayed there, there were people singing, shouting, celebrating and the sound is so loud that we couldn’t sleep. Since this room has so many gaps, you can basically hear every sound that is happening in the property and even from the town. Overall I think there are better places to stay while enjoying the beautiful view of Atitlan Lake.

Every comment helps us to improve but definitely on this platform are the photos of all the houses. And they are built in a way that they all have privacy. At no time did you report this situation regarding the sound as we always let you know that you could let us know of anything you needed during your stay. We have had no bad comments regarding this house and the way it is built. You are always welcome, thank you very much!
