The accommodation is very nice, with an incredible view. An AWD or 4x4 vehicle is highly recommended; there is a roughly 1-kilometer (0.6-mile) stretch that is quite a steep climb, with some sections with a lot of loose rocks. We went in a front-wheel-drive car, and it took a bit of a beating on each climb and descent. So, we only drove up to and down from the property once a day. Otherwise, it's a spectacular place.

I come to Nicaragua frequently. This was my first stay at Marius’s home. The property and the views were amazing. Nicaragua has it’s own style and feel and this is where you can really experience it. The price is totally worth it. Also on my second night I had a diabetic issue and Marius’s caretaker called him and they arranged medical help for me. My stay was already beautiful. But now I have more friends down here. If you want to experience pura vida just come here.

A tropical storm battered the area during our stay, and as a result, we experienced a litany of issues. Rain leaked through the windows and doors resulting in standing water in the upstairs bedrooms for the majority of our stay. The house was not equipped with enough towels to clean up the mess and it took days for someone to come and give us access to extra linens. The water pump broke and we were without running water for a day. we ran out of propane halfway through cooking a meal and found an empty backup tank. Additionally, the access road is very steep and became deeply rutted in the rain, making driving stressful and impossible in a non 4x4. Other than the towel issue, Marius and the maintenance crew were generally helpful. I acknowledge that it's difficult to separate the challenges we faced from the unusual weather incident. However, much of this was preventable. My advice would be to check the forecast before travel as the property is not equipped to handle steady rain.

Host Response

I apologize again for all your inconveniences during your stay, I never hosted anyone during a Tropical Storm/Huricane weather. So these issues never came up all at once. All the issues regarding water leaks are addressed and I instructed the maintenance crew to always have a propane tank as backup addition to the two already in the house. Unfortunately the water being out for a day is out of my control because the whole neighborhood was out of water for that time, the storm messed up one of the pumps that pushes water to our houses. Most of the town had water in their homes up to their knees in some areas. I tried to be as responsive as I could considering the circumstances and will always try to do that with all my guest.
