A 4-bedroom, 4-bathroom home in Palm Beach Estates, Playa Grande, about 100 meters from the beach. The big screened front porch with ceiling fans is the heart of the house, with a built-in stainless steel gas grill for cooking outside. The pool sits out front, lush tropical gardens wrap the property, and the nature reserve is right behind, so monkeys and iguanas are regular visitors. Sleeps 11. AC, dishwasher, laundry and parking for 3–4 cars.
The space Outdoors The fully screened, tiled front porch is the guest favorite. It has double ceiling fans, plenty of seating and a large built-in stainless steel gas grill for dinners outside. The pool sits in front, surrounded by lush tropical gardens, and the nature reserve borders the back of the property. A covered rooftop terrace above the garage has hammocks and a sitting area, good for morning coffee, yoga or watching the sunset.
Bedrooms Main house: a king primary suite with an ensuite bathroom, a queen bedroom with an ensuite indoor/outdoor bathroom, and a third bedroom with a queen bed and a built-in bunk bed with two singles. The main house has 3 full bathrooms. Guest suite: semi-attached, with a queen bed, a day bed and its own full bathroom.
Kitchen and living Fully stocked kitchen with a dishwasher, full range and oven, and a large fridge. AC in all indoor living areas.
Beach and area The beach access is about 100 meters down the lane. Palm Beach Estates sits between the estuary and the ocean, and the water taxi to Tamarindo leaves from the estuary about 300 yards away.
Also included Laundry room and private parking for 3–4 cars.
Guest access You'll have the whole house, the guest suite, the pool, the gardens and private parking for 3–4 vehicles.
Palm Beach Estates is a small, semi-gated community between the estuary and the ocean in Playa Grande. It's safe to walk around, and you can reach Tamarindo in about 20 minutes by walking to the estuary and taking the boat taxi (limited hours). A rental car is handy for exploring. If you'd rather not drive, our concierge can arrange taxis and shuttles.
Other things to note Casa Kalumina has a roll-down metal security screen. We recommend keeping it down at night and whenever you leave the house.

We had a wonderful stay at Shawna's!! The home was exactly what we required, and was very comfortable. We were a family of 9, with 5 kids, and the pool was perfect after a long beach day. The outdoor lanai was a great feature, and where we relaxed most of the time. Bedrooms were spacious, and the additional cabana fit our 2 older teens perfectly. Note, the cabana is completely separated from the main house, however, it is steps away, through the side door. Fine for teens; maybe not for younger kids. A few hiccups with power and laundry but Shawna was responsive and got it fixed up right away. The beach is quite literally a 5 minute walk away, and there were a few restaurants close by. Note, some of them seemed to keep their own hours and were often closed when they should be open; we were there in off season so that may have been the reason. The Cafe Mar Azul right next door was amazing. Recommend concierge service if you can afford it (pricey but convenient). Thanks for a great stay!

Just what the doctor ordered…one of the most remote but beautiful places we have every stayed here n CR. Quiet, walking distance to the beach, fantastic food, and very friendly locals…surfers paradise!!

Our stay at Shawna’s house was fantastic! It’s so well equipped from kitchen equipment to bedding to towels to beach/ pool toys- we had everything we needed and more. The home was perfectly clean when we arrived. Shawna is a fantastic host; she was quick to answer any questions we had and has all the local knowledge.

The location is the start of this home - it is so close to the public beach access for Playa Grande, which is a beautiful and expansive beach with great surfing. Shawna was always responsive and had great recommendations (our favorite was the rooftop restaurant at Cantarana)! Shawna also helped arrange our shuttles to the airport and a wonderful catamaran trip. The kitchen is this home is very well equipped as well. Be advised, generally, that there is a great deal of construction and development happening in Playa Grande at the present time.
