Bodhi House

Le logement et très beau ,mais pas adapté au enfants . et le logement et juste à côté de la route principale . Pas très reposant

Starting with the good: Bodhi house is beautiful, and the property is really wonderful (especially the pool). Communication with the hosts was excellent -- they were prompt and responsive, and attentive to concerns. Going purely off of "what it is", this would be a 5 star property. However, I was closer to giving a 3 star rating than 5, because there were a few shortfalls/inconsistencies that probably would have changed our decision to stay here, if we had known. First, the property description says 1.5 bathrooms; there is only 1 bathroom. We were a party of 3 (in 2 "groups") so we really wanted 2 bathrooms and settled for the 1.5...only to find that it wasn't. The bathroom the house does have is massive, spacious, comfortable, all great...but it's one toilet and one shower in the house, with no half bath. Second, the description was 150m from the beach. The property is on the beach side of the main road, and very close to the beach. It's certainly possible that in a straight line it is in fact 150m. But we were thinking of 150m as a maybe two minute walk, and that was specifically our criteria for choosing our stay (we wanted to be able to pop in/out with ease, and picked this over a beachfront location at another beach). In fact, you have to exit the property, then take a somewhat winding road + path down to the beach; all in all it is more of a 5-7 minute trip. This seems like splitting hairs...it is very close to the beach and the walk is nice! But it isn't as "on top of" the beach as we thought from even the comments of other reviewers. Third, the internet was non-functional for the duration of our stay, for any reasonable purposes. Internet in Puerto Viejo is notoriously unreliable, and I don't blame the hosts or the house for this. But the router extension from the main house (which has fibre optic internet, which should be reliable) could not support basic internet tasks (like loading a photo or video) for much of the stay, and when more than one device was connected, there may as well have not been internet. The hosts were very responsive on this issue and tried their best, but were limited in their ability to solve it over a weekend. If you go not expecting internet, this is not a problem, but we went expecting to be able to do a day of work and had to rent an office at the local co-working space instead. Again, with those caveats noted...the place is really lovely, the hosts are great, and we would stay again (and even book the other houses on the property together, for a larger group), but these three factors would have impacted our decision to stay this time, so it doesn't seem right to go higher than 4, and it's good to be aware of all 3 things if you're contemplating staying here, and going in with the right expectation!
