Studio in Ometepe

The Space

Ananda is an off-grid guest house offering high-end sustainable stays. Our property occupies a privileged position with sweeping views of Concepción Volcano, Lake Nicaragua, and the lush surrounding valley, yet is only a 6-minute walk to town.

This king room features:

• In-room Wi-Fi

The room stands out due to its impressive views of Concepción Volcano and Lake Nicaragua. The 323 square feet of private space is quite upscale for Ometepe standards and includes:

• King-size bed
• Night tables made of precious local hardwood
• Table lamps
• Writing desk
• Book library
• Ceiling fan
• Two large fully screened windows

The private bathroom is fully tiled and includes:

• A huge rain shower with solar hot water
• An enormous vanity and mirror

Natural light flows into the space, providing breathtaking views of the volcano from all vantage points. While this room does not have its own private porch, guests can enjoy a large backyard with outdoor seating. Access to the downstairs communal alfresco dining area and a well-equipped shared kitchen is also available. The kitchen is shared by three rooms.

We offer complimentary unlimited filtered volcanic spring water and high-speed Wi-Fi (please note that, like every place on Ometepe, we cannot guarantee uninterrupted Wi-Fi service). Breakfast service is available for an additional cost of $6 per meal, which includes:

• Tea or organic island coffee
• Fresh juice of the day
• A seasonal fruit plate
• A hot plate (generally includes eggs, gallo pinto, plantain, and our homemade whole wheat toast)

If you would like breakfast, please speak to Nolver and the kitchen staff.

Location

We are located close to the town center of Balgue, within a 10-minute walk to multiple restaurants, scooter/dirt bike or bicycle rentals, and hiking trails leading to the Maderas cloud forest/volcano.

We pride ourselves on being highly sustainable, utilizing:

• 100% solar energy
• Biological gray and black water systems
• LED lighting throughout
• Organic farming practices

Important Information

• The last 650 meters to our property is along a bumpy dirt road (the road to Totoco Eco-lodge). We recommend SUVs, high-clearance vehicles, and off-road motorbikes. During the rainy season (June to November), the road may not be passable for standard sedans and scooters. If you are walking, please bring a flashlight, as there is no public street lighting along this road.

• Our entire property runs purely on solar energy. The system is well-sized, so during the dry season (December to April), you do not have to ration your energy consumption. During the rainy season (May to November), please be mindful and switch off fans when not in use. Occasionally, we may need to turn on our generator to charge our batteries.

• Our property spans 5 acres and is a work in progress, but it is stunningly beautiful.

• We have two medium to large dogs that are part of our family. They may bark when you first arrive, as they provide security.

• Night guards are present daily from 6 PM to 6 AM.

Guest Access

In addition to your room, all guests have access to:

• The downstairs well-equipped kitchen, complete with a full-size fridge, oven, and 6-burner gas cooker, as well as pots, pans, and utensils
• The alfresco communal dining area
• The gardens and surrounding property

Other Things to Note

We have two medium to large dogs, Alpha and Osa, who are integral to our family. They provide security at night and may bark at strangers but are friendly. We also have a cat named Ninja.

To reach us, follow the rustic and rocky dirt road leading to Totoco Eco-lodge, which is 700 meters long. All vehicles can access us year-round, but those with 4WD or higher clearance are recommended.

Is Ometepe the Right Fit for You?

If you love nature and all things natural, you will enjoy Ometepe. The island is home to an abundance of flora and fauna, featuring waterfalls, black and white sand beaches, incredible nature hikes, ancient petroglyphs, scenic wetlands, and a natural volcanic swimming pool.

However, if you have a phobia of spiders, insects, and other creepy crawlies, Ometepe may not be the right fit for you. While our accommodations are comfortable, the island's biosphere status implies a high level of biodiversity, which includes a variety of insects.
