We had to cancel our trip early due to cockroaches in not 1, but 2 rooms. We stayed the first night in our car due to cockroaches coming out from under the bed area. We saw 3 in about 20 minutes. They moved us to a 2nd room where we saw a 2 inch cockroach on the kitchen counter, along with cockroach eggs directly outside the front door. They refused to refund us the total amount of our trip. I don’t know if this business is removing reviews, as I saw ZERO reviews about a cockroach problem. This place is infested. It’s a gorgeous hotel where we experienced 2 nights of hell. We had previously stayed in a vacation home in La Fortuna days prior to this experience, in the rural jungle and experienced not a single bug in 6 days. Clearly they are not maintaining the hotel the way they should. Despicable. We have more picture of cockroaches on our phones now than I’d ever want to have.
Host Response
We do not delete reviews since they are managed by Airbnb, not by us. In fact, this is the first bad review of the unit in question. As we indicated, we do our best to keep insects out of the rooms, but occasionally they can get in. We are in the middle of the rainforest, and we are the intruders; they have been living there for years. The hotel is maintained with the best cleaning standards, and the fact that there are no previous comments from previous guests confirms this.

We loved Sheryl’s place in Manuel Antonio. Beautiful, mature landscape around the premise and comfortable furnishings inside. We were so close to many restaurants that were walkable, as well as grocery stores. The amount of wildlife that we were able to see just by sitting out on our lanai was amazing! Macaws, parrots, sloths, squirrel monkeys, Capuchin monkeys, iguanas, and toucans. Spectacular! We loved our stay and can’t wait to come back!

This place was a GEM! We stayed for half of our trip and didn’t want to leave. Location was the most perfect we could dream of. Walking distance to amazing restaurants, market, and activities. We saw more wildlife at the airbnb than at the national park. Pool area was beautiful and definitely utilized it everyday. Staff was very friendly! Would recommend this place to anyone!!

We loved our stay in the Oasis! The Villas Nicolas workers were extremely friendly and welcoming, Dennys always checked in on us and gave us great recommendations for food and activities! The room was exactly as described, clean, and looked right into the jungle. We saw monkeys from our back porch and the hotel entrance, scarlet macaws, and toucans from the pool! I would stay here 1,000x more!! It felt like its own little private paradise.

We enjoyed our stay, especially the terrace overlooking the greenery and the monkeys that appear from time to time. The pool right next door is like a little paradise, and the receptionist was very kind to us; she did us a favor that we appreciated. We would love to go back. 🤗🪴😎

This is such a lovely place – looks just like the pictures, with a lovely terrace (where you can see the monkeys) and with access to the pool! Very walkable, and Sheryl the host replied quickly to my questions.

Sheryl’s place is a slice of heaven. Every morning we woke up to the beautiful rainforest sounds and gorgeous views of the ocean and rainforest. It’s a perfect spot to see daily wildlife. We saw macaws, white faced monkeys, squirrel monkeys, howler monkeys, and even spotted a sloth with binoculars in the trees nearby. It felt so private and clean. You cannot beat this location. It is walkable to several markets, restaurants, and a 20 min walk to the beach. Downtown Quepos is a short drive down the hill which is where we grabbed dinner every night. If you want to stay in Manuel Antonio in a beautiful villa and feel like you are in the National Park definitely stay here! We will definitely stay again in the future.

Beautiful location. Deco of the unit was lovely. So was the pool and the gardens, with a bonus of a macaw couple living in one of the trees, capuchin monkeys were in the trees one morning and squirrel monkeys on another. Despite of being an Airbnb, we got new towels every 2 days and our rubbish got taken out. Nice suprise. The only negative was that the kitchen was not equipped well. There is one large frying pan (no small one), it's not the nonstick type and there is only serving spoon (nothing to pull the one fried egg up woth you are trying to make in this huge pan).

The Airbnb apartments are right next to the hotel "Villa Nicolas" where the beautiful pool is located, which you can use. From the lounger you could see parrots flying daily and from time to time also monkeys in the tree. To the beach (or national park), the public bus runs for about 390 colones or you can walk 20-30 minutes downhill. Super close to supermarkets and restaurants. We received all the information directly after booking by message and also again personally at the reception. Loved it!

Prime location in Manuel Antonio. This bungalow gives you full access to the hotel next door which has a phenomenal pool that we used. Monkeys and scarlet macaws came right to our patio. This location is in the heart of MA with all the best restaurants within a 5 minute walk. The room has all the necessary items you need. It’s nothing fancy but you just need a clean room to rest and that’s what this is. We felt very safe and had a parking spot. Our favorite restaurants were Le Pappilon, Cafe Milagro, Emilio’s Cafe, and Claro Que Si. Most have live music nightly from 7-9pm.

We felt very comfortable in the accommodation. At night you have to expect some noise, but it is a great location to reach the city completely on foot 😊 also the beach is a 5-minute bus ride

We travel often and I can honestly say this was one of the most beautiful places we’ve ever stayed. You sit in the midst of all the monkeys, wild birds, and sloths. I dare say you may see more wild life at this location than during an excursion! Centrally located, walking distance from all the best restaurants and attractions, Sheryl gets a 10 out of 10 across the board!

Thank you Hotel Villa Nicolas for sharing your beautiful place with us. We spent the majority of our time just enjoying the wonderful deck and watching all the wildlife pass through. The sloth view was so entertaining and the daily visits from the macaws were so fun. The beds are comfortable and the place was very clean. Thanks again for all the memories and we can’t wait to return. Pura Vida

Sheryl and all of their team were amazing! Very friendly, helpful, nice to see each morning/evening, and the stay was beautiful. They had great recommendations on things to do each day and was a pleasure staying at Villas Nicolas. Highly recommend!
