4BR Villa in Nicoya

Poirier

Good, 4 weeks ago

Beautiful place! Recommended. The downside is that the photos shown on the site no longer match what the place has become over time. I'll make a list of recommendations Douglas, thank you for listening attentively during our stay.

Host Response

Thank you for the recommendations. Very much enjoyed hosting the family. To clarify, we have made minor changes over time, in an effort to upgrade and provide a greater guest experience. The house, gardens, and pool, are all accurately displayed in our photos, and unchanged. We have removed one railing and a portion of deck that was no longer deemed appropriate for guests. We have added a barbecue and seating area, for improved guest services. Otherwise, photos of the interior and exterior of the home are exactly as displayed. We are always trying to improve upon the experience here, and upgrade our photos, and greatly appreciate accurate feedback. Thank you.

Douglas’ house is one of the top five vacation homes I have ever rented. The view of the ocean is unbeatable! This property was exactly what we were looking for with our family of four (kids ages 3.5 and 8). We probably spent 2/3 of our time in the gorgeous pool overlooking the ocean. It was warm, clean, perfect! The beach was empty and wonderful for walking (swimming isn’t what we were looking for, but if you are, the surf is pretty strong. Kids definitely needed to be tended in the water even in the shallow parts). We like to cook most of our meals when we stay in a home with a kitchen, and the kitchen was well equipped for our needs. Douglas is warm and welcoming and had his assistant Wendy answer any questions we had on arrival; she’s amazing too! Overall, this is a stunning tranquil escape and we’d definitely return! They have truly created a home away from home and we are honored to have been able to enjoy the space. Thanks!!

Home is the word. Thank you for being here.

When you arrive the first thing you hear is the Pacific Ocean. Next you enter the house and will be greeted by a stunning view of the pool glistening in front of colorful flowers and the ocean. This is an amazing and very private property and beach! The house is a little older and you may have to find some light switches but it has character, tasteful decorations and is super clean. The pool is in need of some repairs though 3 out of my 4 children sliced open their skin on broken tiles.

Doug was an amazing host—he met us on arrival, gave us a tour, and was always responsive and helpful with local recommendations. The home exceeded our expectations—the photos truly don’t do it justice. It’s a unique, beautiful space with plenty of room for our family of four to spread out and also come together. The kitchen was fully stocked, and everything was very clean. We loved the pool and stunning ocean views, and the private beach access was a huge highlight. Wendy, the housekeeper, was wonderful and went above and beyond! This home is a bit off the beaten path (about 40 minutes on mostly dirt roads), but that was part of the adventure for us. There are also no TVs in the house, which we actually loved! We spent our evenings playing games and going for night swims in the pool. The main area is not air-conditioned, but the bedrooms are! If you’re looking for a peaceful, authentic Costa Rica experience, this place is perfect. We would absolutely stay here again!

Thank you so much for staying with us. Knowing you had this kind of experience makes it all worth it. Hope to see you all again!

We stayed as a family of five (three young kids) and loved this beachfront home. The rugged coastline and endless opportunities for exploration were perfect for us — we’re not amusement-park people, so this was an ideal, simpler-pleasure vacation. We could walk along the beach to resort dining, snorkel at a nearby bay, and pop into a fantastic bakery “at the end of the sky.” The beachfront restaurants were excellent, and the kids adored spotting lizards, hermit crabs, and colorful birds. Exploring the Lagarta Lodge trails gave us a wonderful family-friendly rainforest hike. Special shoutout to Irena, who gave me a private yoga session— such a treat for this mama. Highly recommend for families who want relaxed beach time, nature, and rugged adventure.

You did it all. Gone local! Thank you for staying with us.

We enjoyed this house as much as we did 8 years ago! We love the quiet location and the gorgeous view of the beach and ocean. The size of the pool is great for the kids and we appreciate the easy access to the beach just steps away. Douglas was very responsive and answered our questions quickly even suggesting a fantastic fishing guide Gaccis Boat tours. See you next time!!

Thank you for staying with us again. Really appreciate hosting you all.

Family of four stayed three nights I. January. Everyone loved the place. Sunsets from the deck were unforgettable. Short walk to beach that we mostly had to ourselves. House had everything we needed. Perhaps a bit dated but everything worked. Kitchen well equipped and wifi good. Douglas was super helpful with recommendations. We preferred to cook dinner and enjoy sunsets as roads to nearby restaurants not paved and not fun to drive at night. Pool was delightful. You will want 4x4 to get here and to local areas. Everyone in my family eager to return for another stay.
