4BR Villa in San Miguel de Allende

Jamie

Excellent, 5 months ago

We loved our stay, everyone was so nice and helpful, home was beautiful and well furnished!

The houses (two joined together) with 4 bedrooms, courtyards, terraces, alcoves, was perfect for privacy, a place to write or read, entertain friends or take a nap. It was very close (3 blocks) from the Jardin and restaurants. It was filled with beautiful fliers and plants in the courtyards and terraces and antiques in the rooms. The hot tub was terrific every night. The housekeeper and groundsman, Josefina and Tomas, were lovely. We loved staying there and hope to go back. Cathy Allen, Santa Fe, NM

The house was exactly as described beautiful, spacious and peaceful. Right in the center of town easy to get around, and in the middle of all the attractions. Josefina and her husband Tomas were really sweet and kept the house clean. Josefina cooked breakfast a couple of days for us which was good. Our welcome was supposed to be a bottle of wine which was a nice wine, and chips with homemade guacamole, that we didn’t get. I know that if it was a bit more affordable I would rent it for a couple of months at a time. I had visited San Miguel de Allende many years ago and it was just as beautiful, I don’t know if it was the time of the year but it was OVER populated and there were so many so called influencers. Overall it is a beautiful town with a gorgeous house. Teresa

We had an absolutely wonderful stay! The place was gorgeous—beautifully decorated, spotless, and thoughtfully designed. Everything felt cozy and well cared for, and it truly exceeded our expectations. Jean is a fantastic host—very responsive and attentive. Josefina warmly welcomed us and helped around the house, making us feel comfortable and at home right away(she is an amazing cook!!!!) The location is a huge plus: it’s very close to everything, which made getting around incredibly easy. At times it was a little cold, but aside from that, everything was absolutely perfect. We would 100% stay here again and highly recommend it!

Our Family of Five had a marvelous time in SMA and truly enjoyed our stay at Jean's wonderful home. We saw the pictures and fell in love with the idea of a home that had true Mexican culture and heritage. The house (really it's a compound) was better than the pictures. Plenty of space for each person to sprawl out, and the decor made you feel like you were back in time (in a good way). The proximity to everything (including Ahau Cafe with Mr. Rodriguez) was wonderful. If you're looking for an experience that will be memorable, along with some crazy INSTA-WORTHY pictures from the rooftop hot tub, then look no further. Thanks for a wonderful week. The Barry Family of Five

To say this home is special is an understatement. I've traveled around the world many times (as have the 4 women who came), and this place has is understated Old World elegance. It was difficult to understand the layout of the home before going even tho' we asked several questions. There are 3 bedrooms in the main house (1 of which is upstairs via a gorgeous staircase). There is a separate apartment that connects via a second courtyard off the living room. It is spread over 3 floors...the bottom is a sitting room/bar, the 2nd a small room with twin beds, the 3rd level a bedroom on the top terrace & bathroom. The owners were very responsive. The week we were there it was 95+ degrees. While the bedrooms have AC, the units on the top floors couldn't keep the units cool without an added fan. The owner was so kind to even offer me her personal apartment next door due to the heat, however, an additional fan cooled off my room and it wasn't necessary. VERY SPECIAL PROPERTY.

Wow, wow, wow! This hacienda is like stepping back in time; it is nothing short of magical. Culturally stunning with space for everyone, and Josephine & Tomas are attentive, caring hosts. We were located right in the middle of it all and we walked everywhere! We were surrounded by incredible restaurants, fantastic shopping and the local markets kept drawing us back. Such a stunning city; we are already planning our return trip!

Stay here! It’s a perfect location to cruise the city on foot. This home is so beautiful, the pictures don’t do it justice. Josefina and Tomas (house staff) were welcoming and lovely. They treated us like family. I would suggest taking advantage of Josefina’s cooking skills. Our host texted ahead of our arrival to make sure we were taken care of. Josefina had homemade guacamole and pico de gallo for our arrival. San Miguel is an amazing little town and we had the most wonderful experience.

Casa Espiga is such a unique, beautiful and delightful place to stay. The property is so warm and inviting and really large! Each bedroom was very private and beautifully appointed. Hot tub was impeccably clean. Beds were comfortable. The house comes with caretakers. They were lovely people and Josephina is a great cook. I planned a surprise party at the house for my son and Laurie (owner) and Josephina went over and beyond to make it happen. Such a wonderful and comfortable place to hang out and make memories!

We enjoyed our stay at Casa Espiga. Jean and Francoise were kind to meet us for check in late due to our flight being delayed. The home is beautiful and historic, and the roof views are fabulous. Josefina was very friendly and prepared a dinner for one of our evenings--and her cooking is outstanding. The location is a couple of blocks from Jardin. There is ambient street noise that is audible from one bedroom, though the others were quiet at night. I would highly recommend!

Jean's airbnb is absolutely fabulous! The home is gorgeous, every space is curated so well, our favorite was sitting outside on the first floor in the most beautiful garden having coffee. You can't beat the location, as it is an easy 10 min walk into the square. I am really glad we chose the airbnb vs hotel to have more of a "local" experience while visiting SMA. Josephina and Thomas are wonderful, they take amazing care of the property and guests and have the best energy! Would return over and over :)

We were three couples looking for a beautiful courtyard, plenty of space to spread out, a rooftop area, and three en-suite king bedrooms. Found it at Canal 56. After a ride from Leon aiport, we were greeted by Josephina who had prepared a snack of chips and guacamole - so welcome! The house book gave us recommendations of where to eat, visit, and find such things as the pharmacy just up the street. We walked everywhere - wear sturdy shoes for the cobblestones. Canal Street is busy, even at night; if you are a light sleeper you might think of having earplugs. Only good things to say about our stay at Canal 56 in SMA. We can see why Jean is a Super Host.

Hard to describe how amazing the house is. If you're like me, you've wandered the streets of Mexico and wondered what what magical courtyards exist beyond those doors and walls. Casa de la Espiga gives you a chance to answer that question, and live it for yourself. We traveled to San Miguel for a wedding with three other couples. The house couldn't have been better. Josefina took great care of us, and cooked breakfasts a couple of the days we were in the house. We committed at the beginning of the trip to hang out in every available seating area, but THERE WERE JUST TOO MANY! The art is fantastic, the architecture old and beautiful, and the landscaping verdant and enticing (hats off to Tomas)! The only negative we found is that the house is on a very busy street and can get loud at night. Others who slept upstairs reported noise from the AC units kept them up at night. Bring earplugs and you won't have to worry. Wonderful place! Merci beacoup!

This house is gorgeous & huge! The patios are large & beautiful; the lower one is comfortably furnished & has a lovely fountain & garden; the upper has 3-4 separate seating spaces + a hot tub (but only 2 comfortable chairs, a small table & some very sloped bench seating) & many potted plants. Lots of gas fireplaces & a firepit. Has 2 LRs, 1 small, & 2 kitchens but 2nd isn't for use. Is AC in 4 of 5 BRs but not the general living spaces, so was hot in the daytime (Apr 2-8). Beds are comfortable, as were all the baths except for the (very small) Master bath. There's a great housekeeper (Josephina) 9-4 M-F + 9-12 Sat, & a gardener. She alone can use the washer. Owners live in a casita on-site. 3 notes: it's on a central & busy street so is very loud up to 1-2 am: sound echos off the stone walls & penetrates every BR. 2: They charge US$50/nt/person after the 1st 4 people (didn't say that in the listing so was surprised). 3: They ask you to tip the staff MX$350/wk/person if satisfied.

The space is beautiful with so many areas to relax and enjoy. The location couldn’t be better. Literally a 10 min walk to the center of the city. We had an issue with the AC in one of the rooms but it was quickly resolved! Josefina prepared 2 breakfasts for us and they were excellent! Highly recommend this place. Laurie (Jean’s daughter) was very responsive and checked in with us to see how things were at the house.

Host Response

Sherry, thanks for your kind words. We look forward to welcoming you back at Casa de la Espiga!

Exceeded expectations in every way. The pictures just can’t capture the beauty of this place. The details that you continually discover. Outdoor spaces that never end; the sound of water flowing in the courtyard. A couple of blocks from the square; we walked everywhere. Grocery store, restaurants, shopping, bars were all within a block. If u want 2 venture further w/o walking; taxis come through every few minutes and none of our rides were more than $10 USD. Josephina was so very accommodating and welcoming. I felt like I had a Spanish grandmother taking care of us.

This accommodation was simply magical. Actually, it was even more beautiful than the nice photos we saw on Airbnb. We were a party of 8 (four couples) and everyone loved this home. Each couple had its own bedroom and bath. Plus, there were lovely communal spaces both inside and out. The rooms were kept immaculately clean and the grounds were attended each day...making sure the flowers were watered and everything was functioning perfectly. In addition, the housekeeper cooked us a wonderful Mexican dinner! As for the location, it could not have been more convenient. We could walk to the main square in less than 10 minutes and the area was surrounded by shops, museums and restaurants. Lastly, the accommodation is so wonderfully decorated. There are Mexican artifacts and paintings, fountains, vibrant colors that are gorgeous in the afternoon light, lovely outdoor furniture for eating or sitting outdoors. We do not think that there is a more perfect place to stay in San Miguel de Allend

We had a great stay. It was perfect for our group of 5 for 5 nights. 5 minute walk to Parroquial and a park with shops , restaurants and ice cream.. It’s uphill and takes getting used to, sneakers are a must and watch for all the steps. For the older folks you can call an Uber or grab a green taxi (usually between 50-100 pesos). La Sacristia was a great cafe for breakfast and coffee with patio seating right up the block. Josefina is the housekeeper and greeted and let us in when we arrived. She had prepared fresh guacamole and salsa for us which was delicious. For an extra reasonable fee we asked Josefina to make a traditional breakfast one morning which was incredible. Great communication overall through email and Airbnb. The house is incredible and even more beautiful in person. Thank you for having us!

Beautiful, enchanting, historic place that we - three adult couples - enjoyed very much. Very roomy with beautiful furnishings and art, an extensive rooftop area with the two additional bedrooms. Well located - a block or so from the Jardine. We could step out through the front doors and go anywhere. Josephina and Tomas were wonderfully sweet and hard working. A great trip.

Host Response

Robert, many thanks for your great feedback. And thank you for appreciating Josefina and Tomas as much as we do! They are part of the magic of Casa de la Espiga. Looking forward to having you back!

This place is so very incredible, such attention to detail. The pictures actually don’t do the place justice!! We love the property and the location as well. Jean-Marc and Fran are super sweet people and great host. Each room is so well appointed and themed. The place is huge!! Location is perfect, a block from the main square. Loved getting up earl and taking walks through the city. Plenty of great places to eat close by. The city market was awesome. The house, location and host are 5 plus stars, could not have asked for better!!!

I can't even begin to explain how amazing this home is. The pictures do not even come close to doing it justice. We were overwhelmed by the beauty and space within the residence. We were warmly greeted by Josefina even though we had a very late arrival. The location is perfect and we are already trying to figure out the next time we can come back! Do not think twice about staying here, just do it, you will be just as overwhelmed by the beauty of this home as we were.
