This place is a gem. Locals asked why we stayed in Playa Matapalo as it is remote, but we can’t imagine a better location to stay. The beach is amazing and straight out the back door. You are walking from the rainforest directly onto the beach. Smoothest sand I’ve ever felt. Turtle rescue hatchery is a 5 minute walk down the beach, be sure to check this out in the late afternoon as they release the baby turtles. Keep an eye out in the afternoon as a troop of monkeys with pass through the property. We even had a sloth chilling in a tree next door for 3 days. Macaws passed by a few times, but found a huge group at the public beach just down the road. Eat at the Matapalo Supper Club in town for a fantastic unique experience. Local horseback ride on the beach with Angelo was a great and memorable experience. House has all of the beach supplies you need. Be sure to pick up groceries in Quepos on the way as there is limited options in town.
