4BR Villa in Apoya Lagoon

Luke

Good, 7 months ago

Location was great. Leguna de Apoyo is beautiful. The huge terrace on the back of the home overlooks the leguna and has lots of chairs, huge dining table, and a hammock. we spent lots of time out there. Kayaks were also provided, really enjoyed those. Host also provided several gallons of water, which was appreciated. Now for the constructive criticism: 1) The home could use a good deep clean. 2) Also, needs to be fumigated for bugs. But I’m not really sure how much good that would do due the design of the home. There are lots of built in vents in the home (typical in Nica) which is fine if you have screens but there are none in this home. So there is nothing preventing spiders, ants, geckos etc from coming in. And I know you are going to have a few ants/bugs in almost any house in Nica. But this was quite a bit more than usual. Only 2 of the 4 bedrooms have AC. Which IS mentioned in the listing, I just didn’t see it. All in all, it was a great time spent with fam

This was a great place to stay! It had more than enough room to accommodate our group and the view was absolutely incredible. We loved all of the kayaks and floaties left for us to use in the lake, it made the day a lot more fun. It is quite a distance from grocery stores so make sure you have transportation available! We would definitely recommend this house!

Thank you Olivia! You and your group are welcome anytime! Thank you!

Such a magical place. The house is big with high ceilings and open living room and kitchen. The porch which faces the lake is massive with a stunning view. The Laguna overall is an amazing place to spend a vacation, especially during the dry season when the hot weather demands constant cool downs in the water. While Amy was not around while we stayed there, we were in constant communication and she was able to help answer any questions we had. Erickson the grounds keeper was always around, and was such a nice person with a positive energy. He seemed to always be at the gate as we were arriving or leaving to open the doors for us. Knowing that he was always there keeping an eye on the gate definitely made us feel safe on the property, although overall the Laguna is already safe on its own, with everyone in the area being super nice. There is one thing to note, which is by no means a negative, but certainly something any potential renter would likely appreciate knowing It is highly recommended you rent a car if you are staying here. While the Laguna is an amazing place to vacation, it takes about 20 minutes of driving just to get out of it, and then another 10 or so minutes to the closest towns of Masaya or Grenada for grocery stores. During our month in the Laguna we relied quite heavily on our rental car. Overall I would recommend this rental to anyone looking to enjoy the heat and culture of Nicaragua.

AMAZING! The house is beautiful, confortable, has great location and the facilities have everything you can possible need. The host was really helpful answering our questions and the family that takes care of the house are kind, polite and very helpful. Is the perfect place to relax with family or friends, because is like having the lagoon just for you. We will definitely come back soon.

Host Response

Thank you Martha! It was wonderful to host you and your family! We'd love to have you back any time!

We rented the place because of it's amenities, night 1 we had some friends spend the night after they were unable to drive home putting us over the guest limit, ABB noted this on their end. We left after the 1st night due to the hosts aggressive language and us feeling unsafe after we expressed the following concerns 1) the washing machine flooded the living room day 1, the caretaker said this happens everytime the washer is used, we spent lots of time mopping and sweeping the water out of the house 2) the power went out and the water stopped flowing twice causing food spoilage due to the intense heat + disruptions in daily activities 3) the ceramic grill was already broken according to the caretaker, when we used it he said it cracked more, the host attempted to charge us for it, ABB stepped in and provided a partial refund after we left early due to feeling unsafe because of the hosts use of language when we requested a remedy. Generally, glad it's over.

Unfortunately, this was the worst experience I have had renting my home in many years. I allowed the guests to check in hours early so they could enjoy the full day on the lake. I try to accommodate guests in this way if at all possible. They started by putting far too many guests in my home. We live in a nature reserve, inside the carter of a volcano, and the water system simply can't handle more than 12 people. The reason that is our limit. They ignored the rule and piled in more people. I have NEVER had the washing machine flood. I have been in that house for 10 years. It has never flooded and to say my caretaker said it does is just not true. After doing loads of laundry all day and over using the water systems of the home it just couldn't handle it. Again. why we have rules in place to avoid this, that were broken by this guest. My caretaker promptly cleaned up the mess and workers came to repair the damage to the pipes. This in Nicaragua. Occasionally the power does go out in our municipality and in every area of Nicaragua. This is just part of life. It doesn't happen often but sometimes it does happen and we have absolutely no control over it. The power was out during the day for less than an hour. The stove and water all still work. We have a high efficiency refrigerator / freezer and food could easy last a couple of days without going bad. Food does not go bad in a cold fridge in less than an hour. The guest cracked and ruined my ceramic grill beyond repair. Again, my caretaker never said it was already broken or that it was ok that they cracked it, as they claim. It had only been used twice. I love renting my home and have had consistently great reviews for years. We have wonderful people who work for us and go above and beyond to make our guests feel comfortable. So of course they help with every issue and would never argue with a guest. It is upsetting when someone takes advantage of the situation and tell untruths to try to get money back, after not taking care of the home.
