6BR Villa in Oaxaca City

Maryann

Excellent, 4 months ago

The breakfast every day was wonderful. There were fresh squeezed juices, traditional and Oaxacan dishes. The staff were fabulous! The decor was beautiful. The location is very central and within walking distance to fabulous restaurants and shops. We will definitely return!

We loved the place and reminded me of going to mexico and staying at my aunts house. The house is in a great location and walking distance to the centro, good bakery and markets. The only "complaint" is due to us not catching the fact that the place had no air conditioning. That wasn't a problem for the majority of us but a couple of people who run hot complained about being hot. They were able to provide some standing fans for us and that helped. The rooms by the main street can have some noise issues so if you are a light sleeper choose a room in the back of the house.

The photos didn't match and for the price we really expected what we paid for, it looked like a higher level

Host Response

In the end, we clarified that they booked 2 houses the same weekend. We hope to see you again :)

Such a lovely B&B! You Staff it’s so warm and even close to attentive and kind, breakfast was delicious and everyone went out of their way to be helpful. We rented all of the rooms for a big family event and it was a perfect middle courtyard and roof for gathering and a convenient location. Also one of the rooms “estrella” was perfect for our family of four… Loft bed for my older son and below bed for my younger daughter plus king size bed for us grown-ups.

I cannot sing enough praises for our stay here! Our family of seven were met with warm and open arms. Everything about our stay was so seamless, welcoming and beyond our expectations. All of the rooms were clean, beds comfortable and there was all-day support from the staff to help us with local recommendations, organizing transportation, and making sure our needs and requests were met. The BnB is exactly as listed, with beautiful cultural touches and details throughout. Breakfast every morning was beyond delicious and set us up perfectly each day to explore the city. The location is perfect - walking distance to everywhere in the city. Highly recommend!!!

The perfect Airbnb for a family with children. What a beautiful Airbnb with an old bugenvilija growing right in the heart of this home. The staff was attentive and welcoming. Fernando booked me hair and makeup appointment, coordinated a pharmacist to come do COVID testing in the comfort of the B&B, he looked up guided tours for us at the botanical gardens made great restaurant and bar recommendations he was wonderful. Our cook made food with love. My mother mentioned loving chilaquiles and the cook made it for us in our last day. The rooms were cleaned daily. We were offered all six rooms so my baby could sleep quietly at his regularly bedtime while my three year old stayed with us - Fernando arranged for a small bed to be moved to one of the rooms with a large bed. They also had a crib set up for us which was ideal. My mom had her own room. All the rooms had their own private bathrooms. One downside was that being in the city center it’s very noisy. I suggest sleeping in the rooms toward the back to avoid all hustle and bustle of the streets. Overall we loved our stay and would definitely recommend.

I cannot say enough great things about staying here. We felt so cared for. Every day we were greeted with smiles, coffee, and a delicious breakfast. The service was excellent and the space/rooms are beautiful, clean, and all have great décor. It is full of Oaxacan charm!! We loved the hammock and all the plants too. The proximity to the Zocalo is great as well. We are leaving Oaxaca with full hearts and look forward to returning asap. We will definitely stay there again.

El Diablo y La Sandia is a must when in Oaxaca. The team was very helpful and even assisted with getting us a covid test scheduled at the bnb. The rooms are charming, and the service is spectacular! Breakfast at the courtyard will continue to be one of our favorite memories during our trip. It included delicious coffee and fresh squeezed juice. The location is prime! We walked everywhere and felt very safe. Thank you again for everything.

*** caveat: we stayed at the Boca Del monte location *** The grounds are dreamy, the rooms are beautiful, the staff is helpful, and María really takes her time to create a space that’s a true bed and breakfast. Homemade yogurt and jam and juice in the AM, a lush garden in the afternoon, mezcal from the honesty bar at night: this place can spoil you. It’s charming. Don’t hesitate to stay there! One thing: WiFi is not the strongest (common for the area). But it works!

I have had the pleasure of staying at both diablo y sandia locations, and I think they are both fantastic places to stay during your visit to Oaxaca city. The Libres location was very charming and rustic, and had all the amenities we needed for our four day stay. The location is great-- close enough to the center of the old city, but quiet and relaxing at the end of the day. Everyone we interacted with at the hotel was super helpful and kind. I would definitely recommend el diablo y la sandia to anyone who wants a charming and affordable place to stay in Oaxaca.

Very nice house in a good location to all that Oaxaca has to offer. Staff was very professional and friendly, including a warm welcome when we arrived. Breakfasts were very good - both the food and the courtyard setting. One thing to consider is that we were in a room (called "Luna") that was on the street side of the house - there is a Ttlayuda stand immediately across the street that is open until 5am, with lots of patrons and noise throughout the night, so keep that in mind when deciding which room to stay in. Overall we had a nice experience and time at El Diablo.

Everything about El Diablo y La Sandia was wonderful! The room was spacious and comfortable, every breakfast was outstanding, and it was ideally located within a short walk to the Zocalo, Cathedral, public transportation, and many restaurants and bars. We loved that we could buy beer, mezcal, and housemade kombucha (which was terrific!) to enjoy on the rooftop patio. Maria and her staff made us feel so welcome and we can't wait to return!

All of the staff at El Diablo y La Sandia were warm and hospitable. They were very attentive and friendly. The bed and breakfast was located in a very convenient spot for walking to the center of town and most of the main attractions. It was also situated in such a way that it was a quite sanctuary. The patio was a lovely place in which to sit and eat a meal or read. The rooms were quite spacious and were decorated with beautiful textiles and crafts from the Oaxacan region.

*Review for the Boca del Monte location* We booked to stay at the Libres location, but Maria messaged to let us know that the other property was more dog-friendly. We had a great time at El Diablo y La Sandia. The property managers were awesome, the property is really pleasant, and the breakfast was great as well. The property is about two blocks from a main street with excellent restaurants and shopping, and three blocks from the Santo Domingo cathedral (to the west) while also offering good access to the stairs to El Fortin and the Estadio Guelaguetza. It's far enough from the bars and antros downtown to be quiet at night, but close enough to have good access to the amenities of the centro. The rooms are small but very well-appointed and classically Oaxacan. Some rooms share a communal restroom and shower while others have their own bathrooms. There are two outdoor communal spaces with chairs and tables, and in the main dining room (where breakfast is served from 830-10am) there is a comfortable couch and a kitchen that guests are welcome to use. In this main building there is a TV, telephone, bar, refrigerator, etc. The Boca del Monte location is a great Bed and Breakfast offering a perfect home base for your visit to Oaxaca. The managers were extremely helpful to various guests in getting taxis called, tours arranged, coffee cups filled, etc. Highly recommended.

We were recommended to stay at El Diablo y La Sandia and our it met our high expectations. this place is very welcoming, clean and personal. The great breakfast is served around a large table were you get to talk a bit with that other guests who were all very nice. we also spent some time on the nice terrace. Maria was truly a super host, helping us with tips, directions and order of taxi/bustickets. She and the nice staff made us and our two sons feel very welcome. We will surely come back and also recommend this place to all our friends. thanks for making our visit in Oaxaca perfect.

Maria is a lovely host. We ended up having a lot in common and so Maria was the perfect person for recommendations on places to go and things to see. She went above and beyond to help find me some very specific things I was looking for and I'm so grateful to her. I really can't wait to come back again and stay at Maria's. Her place is very clean, super well located, and the entire experience was so perfect. I would recommend Maria's place without a doubt.

Our stay at El Diablo y La Sandía was beyond our expectations. Maria did everything she could to make us feel at home, going beyond the call of duty by shopping for us at a local big box store and even having medication delivered to us from the pharmacy. Our room had its own terrace and very comfortable bedding. For us, the highlight was the delicious breakfast at Maria's: gourmet omelets, pancakes, tamales and quesadillas.. all served outdoors in the inner courtyard of the house. A perfect place and a perfect host who apparently loves having a B&B!! ¡Mil gracias!

Maria's place is really charming. It has a sunny courtyard and kitchen with a table and breakfast bar - relaxed shared living spaces. You can use the kitchen and store things in the fridge. She provides delicious breakfasts that change each day, along with a sitting room and library/films. The rooms are comfortable and decorated with local Oaxacan design. They have quiet ceiling fans that work well. Good reading lamps too. Great to find in the room a hairdryer, hats and an umbrella - though in winter we didn't need it as the days were sunny. Maria is a very gracious and lovely host. She has a really playful friendly dog that is there alot. The place is quiet and peaceful, even though it is located centrally, with a short walk to cafes, restaurants, markets, galleries etc. Would definitely stay here again.

What an amazing place to stay! As I told Maria, if I was ever to go back to Oaxaca (and I would love to!) I wouldn't think about staying anywhere else! Her B&B is so colourful and has so much character. The rooms are beautifully and carefully decorated and very clean. There are even hats and bags hanging on the wall that are for guests to use(which we did and were greatful for)! The little indoors sitting area is such a comfortable room to relax and read and the 'honesty bar' is a brilliant idea. Our favourite space was the outdoor kitchen and eating area (so colourful and lovely) where tasty breakfast is cooked and served daily. Access to the kitchen is for all guests and there is a basket there of 'help yourself' fruit which was lovely. The idea of all guests sitting around one table is such a great one as it is almost guaranteed that you will meet other travelers as we did. And the sunny rooftop with the hammock is an extra bonus! It is obvious that Maria has put a lot of thought and love in this B&B. We all loved our stay there and would love to go back.

What a magical B&B Maria has created! This was my first time in Oaxaca and I'm so glad that my partner and I stayed at El Diablo Y La Sandía. The location is prime, only blocks away from delicious restaurants, the main plaza, artesian shopping, and beautiful churches. Maria's eye for details and decoration is on-point. Her B&B shows her care and understanding of comfort, relaxation, and what one looks for to have a wonderful trip in Oaxaca! Breakfast here (made for you on the spot!) is scrumptious, healthy, and very lovely in presentation. Also, folks who come should check out El Diablo y La Sandía's mescal! My partner purchased two bottles of it... We loved it here so much that we decided to stay an additional night. It was very easy to come and go when we wanted. The vibe here was very relaxed, as vacations should be. I would definitely come back in a heartbeat! Side Tip: Visit La Olla restaurant! It's nearby, delicious, & relaxed, you can easily have a 2 hr lunch there. I'd advise to eat upstairs or the rooftop terrace and also inquire about their fixed-meal option (it's available I think around 2-5pm?); it's a SUPER deal and it's not one to be missed if you don't mind eating a later lunch or an early dinner.

Perfect retreat in the heart of Oaxaca! Having booked this two days before we arrived it felt a little rushed and crazy, however upon arrival we knew we had picked the perfect place. We were looking for a place to stay, close enough to be able to walk to everything, but quiet enough to be able to sleep at night, where we might get a slightly more Mexican experience than a standard hotel. This place met all our expectations and more. Maria, the host, was away when we arrived but we were greeted by the lovely Stephen who gave us the guided tour and a quick run down of the area - he's clearly passionate about Oaxaca. Then a few days later Maria arrived back and the place just came to life. From traditional breakfasts, to laundry services, a TV room (which to be honest we didn't use, but it a nice idea) and great living space we felt totally spoiled. Having been ill for many days prior to our stay, Maria, who speaks impeccable English (amongst many other languages) was quick to offer Vicks VapoRub, and a home made cough medicine which really hit the spot. Her attention to detail was excellent, offering advice on restaurants, bars, trips and more. She even joined us for dinner on two occasions, recommending the best place for margaritas in Oaxaca ... and yes, they were delicious. I would strongly recommend going to Oaxaca if visiting Mexico and staying at El Diablo La Sandia is essential for anyone visiting the city. I strongly recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing, traditional yet comfortable place to stay in Oaxaca.

El Diablo y La Sandia (The devil and the watermelon :) is a very nice bed-and-breakfast in the center of Oaxaca. It is located just a few blocks from the main areas of interest in a traditional colonial house. I absolutely reccomend Maria's B&B for those who are looking for a more personal, cosy place. Maria and her family will make you feel very comfortable. The rooms are clean, beads are big and comfortable, the breakfast is amazing! I particularly loved the Mexican style furnituring of the rooms. What is also a big plusin Mexico that Maria and her parents all speak very good English and they gave us lots of suggestions where to go. We followed many of their recommendations for restaurants for e.g. and were never disappointed, only thrilled!
