If you're looking for an expensive place to spend the night and a chance to see bioluminescence this is the place. Facilities, as in kitchen, bathrooms, & showers are barely functional, they all could use an upgrade/remodel. Beach area could also use a cleanup/maintenance as there are broken abandoned boats and other natural waste making it difficult to enjoy the shore.

It was NYE 2021/22. We made the mistake of coming to the Nicoya Peninsula hoping to find decent and interesting places and communities to explore but after three AirBnb bookings that backfired, we came across this listing while having lunch at a fishing co-op and restaurant near the ferry terminal in Paquera... Despite our last minute booking, Adrian was immediately in communication and action, trying to get us on the island before sunset. The boat that takes you to the nearby Isla Jesucita is a wooden open motorboat. It will cost you an additional $20 USD EACH WAY. Currently, that was $12,000 colonas. It lands in a port to the side of the car entrance where the ferry to Puntarenas disembarks. If you drove, you will have to overnight your vehicle in a parking lot (for the additional cost of $4,000 colonas per night). I would not advise leaving valuables there even if you put it in the trunk as we weren't sure if there is an overnight watchperson on duty. Have watershoes ready (or take off your shoes and socks on the boat) because once you get to the island, you will have to step into water in order to get to shore as there is no dock there. Be warned that the site is...well, rougher-looking than your typical North American camp site. Tent is fine. Comes with nice mattresses, sheets and pillows. But the common kitchen and washrooms and showers are kind of dirtier and smellier than we were expecting. The people who live there full-time are lovely though-Alex is especially kind and warm and he or Brandon will shuttle you back to Paquera when you need to so just ask ahead of time (preferably the night before you have to leave). Also, know that you might not have internet signal (for good or bad)...depending on where you are on the site. The recharging outlet we had access to didn't work (so have your devices fully charged in advance or bring a portable battery for plugging your devices into). If you come at the right time, the magical experience is the opportunity to stay up late (enough) that all the lights are turned off. Then you can trek down into the water and witness play with the bioluminescent plankton plus watch the gorgeous sunrise. THIS IS NOT TO BE MISSED! It is THE reason to come to this island. For me, it was worth every colonas. That and being able to get away from the party scene all the beaches were thronged with. Hope this was helpful. Coman

Very dirty island with a barely usable kitchen, hiking tracks covered by bushes and bad rubbish smell over the beach. The only positive thing is that you can see some bioluminescence at night.
