With only ten homes on the ridge, the location provides quiet security, the purest air, and some of the best weather in the world. Designed as a luxurious retreat, the house combines casual comfort with eco-friendly features. Spacious rooms feature high ceilings with beautiful wood beams.
The house includes three bedrooms:
- Two king beds
- One queen bed
- One king sofa bed
Each morning, you can wake up in the Balinese four-poster Tempur-Pedic king bed and enjoy the valley view. Hawks soar below while hummingbirds and butterflies flutter around the verbena flowers.
Start your day by descending the curved staircase to work out in the gym or swim laps in the pool. Alternatively, relax in the Eames chair while waiting for superb coffee.
Kitchen and Dining
The kitchen is a chef’s dream, large and well-equipped with:
- Gleaming French copper cookware hanging from a rack
- Drawers stocked with every pot, pan, and kitchen tool needed
Begin with a push of a button on the Jura coffee machine to savor Atenas’ award-winning coffee. Enjoy fresh fruit from over 30 fruit trees and herbs grown in the kitchen garden.
The dining table is a remarkable single piece of Balinese teak measuring 3 by 1 meters. Admire the marketplace painting as you decide where to have breakfast—inside or outside by the pool.

The laundry room is equipped with a built-in ironing board and a new washer and dryer.
Outdoor Spaces
After a long day, enjoy a swim in the pool, which is private from neighboring houses. For sunset views, visit the bench across the street with your favorite drink or retreat to the master bathroom, fill the tub, and watch the sunset in privacy.
At night, open the windows to welcome a gentle breeze and fall asleep to the twinkling valley lights and the calls of rufous nightjars.
Guest Access
Guests have full access to the entire home, including the office, gym, and pool, except for the owner's closet.
Additional Information
Villa Pica Flora is the owners’ primary residence and is equipped with every modern convenience. The home was thoughtfully designed to be environmentally friendly, featuring:
- Solar water heating
- Solar panels to offset electricity usage
- Uninterrupted electricity and water supply
Passive design elements help maintain comfort by absorbing heat and cooling the house with a front water feature and a double infinity pool suspended over the eastern slope. Carefully engineered overhangs and slightly tinted windows allow natural light without creating a fishbowl effect.
Most people you encounter in Costa Rica are fully vaccinated. The Delta variant is rare and mostly confined near the Panama border. The housekeeper, Mayra López, her daughter, and the massage therapist who visits the property are all fully vaccinated.
The home does not have air conditioning, but the consistent breeze and open layout keep it comfortably cool.

Gorgeous home in an incredible setting. Unbeatable sunrise, was sad to leave. Tranquil and private accommodation in the middle of paradise. Great base to explore all that Costa Rica has to offer.

A lovely home with a really nice sunrise view, nice pool and overall a comfy place to stay, in a safe area and a short distance to town and places to explore. However, some aspects did not meet our expectations. We had to go out and buy garbage bags, toilet paper and sugar right after we arrived for 10 days. Some kitchen cupboard doors are broken, filtered water tap didn’t work, towels had holes in them, hot water in the shower was dubious…. I just expected a bit more attention to these details in such a fine home. Oh, but it did have the finest espresso machine I have ever used (just be sure to arrive with beans).

Esther and her team were absolutely great! The house looked exactly like the photos, yet I have to say the view in person and the house in person are much much better for those who are considering this place! I would also like to add that the master bedroom set up is really great in many ways! The bed is easily the best most comfortable bed I have been in overall. It’s very soft, plushie and so comfortable! Both bathroom set ups are amazing you all will enjoy them throughly. Susan, the property manager was really great in communicating with anything we needed done or asked for always! Also the kitchen is fully stocked, really the entire house has everything you need. As far as exploration goes the place is gated, the home itself is gated, the breeze in the home is impeccable, the town has everything you need from food, gym, restaurants, or grocery stores if you cook at home a lot. Overall my first time in Costa Rica I am happy I stayed here at Esther’s beautiful home thank you!

The house was great & while rating it 5 stars I feel obligated to make note of a few things. There is no ac (that’s not a problem, the listing states no ac) so to get a cool breeze you’ll need to leave the doors & windows open. The breeze is fantastic however, there are no screens on any doors or windows. You are essentially sharing your home with all the critters that live outside. We had iguanas, lizards, a humming bird, scorpion & lots of ants & wasp come into the home. The ceiling fans do not make any breeze as they move very slow. There are 2 floor fans, but since we had to keep the house closed (to keep the bugs out) they didn’t help much. The pool only runs from 8-12. Expect to share that space with LOTS of bugs! When we got home from our daily adventures & wanted to swim we would have to clean it out ourselves. Not a huge deal, just wanted future guest aware. Susan was a wonderful host & very responsive to issues that came up.

This home was absolutely beautiful and the perfect first stop on our Costa Rican adventure. Susan was very helpful and responsive with recommendations to meet each of our requests (restaurants, grocery stores, etc). Would definitely recommend a stay here!

What we missed the most was air conditioning. It was very hot and fans in master bedroom didn’t really work, even at high speed. I feel it could have been cleaner, it was very dusty in places and the master bathroom was not clean at all… I think it was missed totally when cleaning. The one hose in the master shower also didn’t work. It does have a lovely view, and would have been nice to have lounge chairs by the pool, there is nothing. The pool is not heated so a little cold when you get in, but you get used to it. Overall, it was an ok place to stay.

What an amazing stay! This home is exactly as pictured if not more amazing. The hosts gave us very clear instructions for directions, entry, etc. Breathtaking views day and night. This home is very spacious and offers breezes through many doors and windows. Our stay in early April was very sunny and warm in the morning so it was quite enjoyable to sun ourselves and swim before leaving for excursions of which there are many. When we returned later in the day the temperature dropped considerably and the breezes were so refreshing! The kitchen and dining area are very spacious making it a delight in which to prepare and enjoy meals. The decor is beautiful and vey unique. Sleeping was extremely comfortable in the upstairs bedroom. We kept the window open to enjoy the breeze and take in the moonlight view of the hills and city lights while in bed. Great experience overall and would highly recommend. Our hosts excellent; caring and responsive.

Wow where do I start about this place? Omg this home was so beautiful, spacious, private and very cleaned. The pictures don’t do it justice. It’s so breathtaking in person. My boyfriend and I were so sad to leave. Thank you to the co host always available to respond to any questions we had and recommendations for restaurants. The person she recommended for my boyfriend’s surprise decoration did a great job and it was a smooth process. I would highly recommend this place to family and friends and anyone that’s on here checking it out. I loved how quiet and gated the villa is , felt safe. Yes, there’s no A/C but you can’t even tell the difference because how cool the house feels, the breeze from outside if you leave a door or window open and there’s fans. We enjoyed the spa tub while the window was open, catching the views . I can go on and on about this home. Thank you for letting us experience your awesome place. Pura Vida!
