Villa Shambala offers stunning ocean views from a tranquil 4BR retreat on a lush organic farm in Guanacaste. Experience luxury, wildlife, and serene sunsets just minutes from beaches.
The Space
Villa Shambala offers a serene and timeless retreat, embodying the essence of its name—a mythical and sacred place where time seems to pause. The villa is situated on the highest point of a 60-acre working organic farm, surrounded by lush tropical gardens filled with exotic fruits and medicinal plants.
The architecture reflects Native cultural influences, inspired by the Sacred Maloka, or Gathering Place, making it an ideal setting for spiritual retreats. Every detail is unique, from floor mosaics and carved wooden doors to handcrafted polished concrete and glass countertops, custom wood furniture, and sculpted ceilings.
Guests can enjoy fresh organic eggs daily from the farm’s chicken coop, including duck eggs. The farm is also home to various animals such as goats, turkeys, geese, Guinea chickens, and Crested ducks. Hummingbirds, dragonflies, and butterflies are frequent visitors to the gardens.
The villa includes four air-conditioned bedrooms and five full bathrooms, plus two extra-large baths. Both master bedrooms feature extra-large king-sized beds with ensuite bathrooms and showers. The upstairs master bedroom has a balcony overlooking the ocean.
The third bedroom, which doubles as a TV room, has an extra-large king-sized bed and a sofa that converts into a single bed. Its private bathroom with a shower is adjacent but not en suite. The fourth bedroom is located above the TV room, accessible by a staircase resembling a castle turret, and contains one queen-sized bed and three single beds with an ensuite shower.
The open living area and spacious kitchen are fully equipped with modern appliances. The ocean-view terrace wraps around the west side of the home and includes a large infinity pool with a volleyball net.
Additional features include:
- Professional ping pong table on the terrace
- Two hammocks on the terrace and one at the sunset lookout point
- Outdoor alfresco dining table seating 12
- Three outdoor showers
- Washer and dryer
- Pool towels provided
- Parking spaces
- Daily maid service (four hours, except Sundays)
- On-site caretaker and guard living 250 meters from the villa, reachable by cell phone
Location
Villa Shambala is located just an 8-minute drive from the well-known Playa Avellanas and Playa Negra beaches in Guanacaste. A 15-minute walk down a rustic country road through the village of Lagartillo leads to Playa Lagartillo, a quieter beach often virtually empty as most visitors head to Negra or Avellanas.
Tamarindo, with its full range of modern amenities, is a 30-minute drive away. This location offers a peaceful and private atmosphere while maintaining easy access to popular destinations in Guanacaste.

This was truly a breathtaking experience that surpassed all expectations. I have used Airbnb many times across my travels, but I have never felt as deeply connected to a place as I did at Juan Carlos’s home in Costa Rica. From the moment my entire family arrived—including my in-laws, my sister and her husband, and my cousins—we didn’t just feel like guests; it felt as though we had returned to a long-lost second home. The property itself is stunning, offering views that take your breath away, but the magic goes beyond the scenery. Juan Carlos is an exceptional host, and the team working at the farm are nothing short of amazing. Their warmth and hospitality created an atmosphere so welcoming that none of us wanted to leave. It is the kind of place where you stop thinking about your next destination and simply want to stay forever. If you are lucky enough to book a stay here, be prepared: you won’t just be visiting Costa Rica; you’ll be finding a home you never knew you missed.

Juan Carlos & Franklin were amazing hosts! The property is BETTER than you can imagine. We had a family of monkeys hanging out on or right next to the property all week- which was amazing! This home is near the Pacific Playa Negra community- off the beaten path. The walk to the beach is long, hot and dusty. I highly recommend a car. If you understand this going in you'll love it. Visit Tamarindo for a day (about an hour away) and then get the heck out of that rat race and back to the tranquility of this property and community and you'll be thankful you did! Amazing fresh eggs, plantains, and starfruit every day from right off the property. Shop the Costa Rica grocery stores in Los Pargos . They are great. Not modern like the ones in Tamarindo but better prices and more selection honestly. Everything was great

Finca Shambala is a sanctuary amid the exotic and beautiful flora and fauna of Guanacaste, CR. The home itself with its circular rooms and beautiful features is an oasis and inspiration for any traveler who appreciates both a comfortable and unique experience. Panoramic views of the Pacific while basking in the sun, relaxing on the veranda or swimming in the infinity pool left us feeling rejuvenated and full of the Pura Vida spirit that is Costa Rica. It was exactly what a family of New England educators needed this winter! We only wish we could have stayed longer. We will be back next year! From the children (6&8yrs): We loved spending time in the gardens - they were beautiful - the butterflies, the dragonflies, the cinnamon hummingbirds that visited daily! We loved playing games at the big beautiful table on the veranda. We walked the grounds and discovered a bamboo sound bath and said good morning and goodnight to the billy goats, ducks, and chickens on the property. Pura Vida!

Wow! This place was amazing! If you are looking for a gorgeous house near an amazing beach (Playa Avellenas), then look no further. The house is surrounded by beautiful flowers and birds - it felt like waking up in Paradise everyday. We had plenty of room for our 2 families (4 adults and 4 children). The beds were so comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked. Juan Carlos was VERY responsive with all of my questions/concerns. It was also nice to have Franklin nearby to help if needed. The kids LOVED the chickens, turkeys, and ducks on the property. They also loved the daily pool time! The only thing I would mention to people visiting is that you will want to go to a grocery store on your way into town because the markets near the house are very limited. Liberia, Santa Cruz, or Tamarindo all have full size grocery stores. The restaurants in the area were sooooo good, especially Lola’s and and KonTiki! Overall, we had best time and hope to visit again one day!!!

We celebrated my husband's 40th birthday in January 2026. We were a group of nine, and the house accommodated us very comfortably. The drive to the house is quite an adventure in itself; the street is unpaved and has numerous dips, so I would certainly recommend an SUV for the journey, but it was entirely worth the effort. Juan's place is truly enchanting. This is definitely a place to consider if you are seeking a secluded retreat and plan on spending most of your time relaxing. Please also bear in mind that you will be in a rural setting, so encountering various critters and animals is to be expected. We observed dragonflies, frogs, grasshoppers, snakes, and many other creatures. I would definitely rebook again in the future

There are no words to describe the originality of this beautiful home. The house is secluded in the middle of the 60 acre fruit farm with lush beautiful gardens and paths winding through. The infinity pool was a huge hit for our family with a shallow end for our 4 &1 year olds. The other end was about 5'. The view from the covered porch over looking the pool and gardens towards the sunset is unbelievably beautiful! The house has everything you need and more. The kitchen is completely furnished. Washer and dryer with detergent and softener. Bathrooms are furnished with body wash, shampoo and towels. Beds were comfortable with nice linens. Housekeeping was so nice and fresh eggs and fruit every morning. Frederick made sure the pool area was cleaned every morning and was available for anything we needed. The host Juan....from the time I booked to the time we left, he was nothing short of amazing with responding immediately to questions I had. He definitely is a SUPER HOST!Highly recommend

I hosted a women's retreat here and I loved how easy it was to do so. Everything was provided for that I needed, like yoga mats, speaker, towels. I really loved everything about this home, especially the art inside and how close it was to the beach. The fact that the house is a circle makes the energy inside feel so powerful! The pool was a DREAM, overlooking the ocean. Waking up to the sounds of nature everyday made the experience feel so amazing. The host was VERY responsive when we needed support and that made the experience great. I will be coming back in the near future to host more retreats here that's for sure! Really grateful for the experience <3

Wow. My family and I wanted to stay at this property forever. Juan is an exceptional host, as he greeted us and showed us everything at the property upon check in; including how to access fresh eggs from the farm every morning, superfood berries that we can pick from the trees on the property, the multiple hammocks in tranquil settings and the multiple private areas in the yard that can be enjoyed for relaxing and enjoying the outdoors. This property is amazing, as it has no corners and was designed with best in class architecture. We enjoyed horseback riding with our children on the beach with the property's horses and amazing horseback riding teacher. We will be back again. Staying at this property is an experience that you could only have on this coastal farm property. Just amazing!

We stayed here during Christmas and it was magical! This was our fourth time in Costa Rica and by far our favorite place to stay yet! Juan Carlos was amazing—responsive, kind, and made everything seamless from start to finish. The house itself was beautiful and looks just like the photos. The surrounding land made it feel incredibly private and peaceful. We especially loved the sense of seclusion combined with the stunning ocean view—it was the perfect place to relax and unwind. The house cleaner and caretaker of the house were also wonderful! We felt very spoiled. The caretaker, Franklin, went above and beyond for us. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a tranquil and memorable getaway.
