My family had an amazing stay at Michel's home (2 adults, 2 kids under 10yo). The house is right on the water with beautiful beaches and snorkeling just meters away. The arrival logistics were easy: We were picked up at the airport and driven straight to the office. Did some quick grocery shopping, grabbed a bite to eat, and then got on the boat to Al Natural. The resort area was great for kids since the water is fairly shallow off the beach and protected from big waves. We particularly appreciated: Readily available gear (paddle boards, ping pong, snorkeling gear, etc.). Amazing, large porch for relaxing. Ability to easily book excursions and transport (chocolate farm, scuba, bat caves, etc.). Cooking at the house or signing up for delicious meals at the main resort building. Kind staff that were welcoming to our kids. My only recommendation is bringing enough cash for excursions. We didn't plan it out well enough and were down to our last balboa/dollar at the end.

We were looking for a remote place to relax for a week with our family of 5 (+guest) and Michel's place did not disappoint!!! First the location: the south side of Isla Bastimentos is ~30 min away by speed boat :), through mangrove & lagoon. Michel's house is located within the Al Natural lodges, just a couple minutes stroll. The house is well built: the photos are very descriptive. We particularly loved the large deck where the relaxing took place! Note that being so close to the lagoon and jungle, the night can be "noisy" (waves, rain, night owls/birds, etc...) Personally, I slept like a baby but my wife had a harder time falling asleep: consider bringing earplugs. Last, the Al Natural staff is just AWESOME! We very much miss the evening cocktail & dinner ritual... We went on a couple of the tours available; from sighting dolphins, to snorkeling, to visiting a chocolate farm, everything was perfectly organized. We can only recommend it for your next vacation (Panama rocks too:)

We had the best stay at Michels place. The area is stunning and probably the most untouched area of the world we have seen, with still having all the basic amenities required. We went on the mangrove tour to see sloths and we saw lots so close! We also saw cayman and dolphins. We had dinner at the Al Natural restaurant one night and it was delicious. We requested some fresh fish to cook another night, and Ismail gave the option for a couple of us to go out with the fisherman to catch our dinner which was the best experience the boys had! I would highly recommend this place as a way to get away, get back to nature and forget about the world for a while. Thank you all!

Wer die Küche dort gesehen hat, will nie wieder was essen... Schade

Michel's place is amazing! For some context, this is his private home, but it's right next to the Al Natural Eco Resort which he runs. We were a tad skeptical at first as we're not "resort" people and were looking for a calm, relaxing but authentic place to stay. That's EXACTLY what Al Natural and Michel's house is like. The resort is a collection of open-air cabins, community gathering spaces and white sand beaches. Location & access to activities: The home is on one of the more remote parts of Bastimientos (about 40min by boat to Bocas town) so it's a bit out of the way. Without the help of Michel & Ishmael to organize trips and water taxis, it would have been hard to do everything we wanted. But they were amazing in making all our wants happen - including a full day boat rental and mangrove tours. They're also just genuinely cool people and fun to get to know. Food: We opted to have dinner at the resort each night so we didn't have to worry about cooking every meal (though Michel's kitchen has everything you need to do basic cooking). THE FOOD WAS AMAZING! We were a little nervous because - what if it's not good?! Well, it was amazing. Do yourself a favor and be sure to catch a few meals at the resort. Not only was the food fresh, but the family-style atmosphere meant we got to meet and get to know some really cool people. House: The house itself is stunning and it's clear a lot of care has gone into it. The deck is almost as big as the home itself, with insane views and a private beach just steps away. The house is one of the few with glass enclosing it, so you get a nice "inside feel" while having unobstructed views of the ocean. The home is totally solar powered and we had no issue with electricity or wifi. Fans in every room & screened areas made sure it was nice and cool all the time. There is nothing like falling asleep to waves crashing and jungle rain storms. Communication: Getting out to Michel's requires some coordination as it's a bit out of the way. He was so proactive in communicating with us so we had no worries about being unable to get where we were going. Overall, it was an epic trip and the place was beautiful. 10/10 will return!

Short version: The Casa Natural (and the Al Natural resort in general) was one of the best places we've ever stayed at. Period. Long version: Where to start...so many great things. The location is absolutely surreal. It's so idyllic we had to pinch ourselves every day to make sure we were not dreaming. It's literally what you see on these cheesy posters portraying the perfect Caribbean holiday. It's on the southern tip of Bastimentos Island, a fair bit away from the more populated and touristy areas. The boat ride there is great, and a teaser of what's to come. The house itself is located literally 5 meters from the water, and from the large deck, it feels like you're on top of the water. Except - there are palm trees, which add to the amazing feeling. The water is warm and clear. There is a little retainer wall on which the small waves crash - a sound that can be heard in the house, especially at night. We loved it and often just lay awake in bed before falling asleep listening to the ocean - what a dream. The house is about 100m from the landing pier, and probably 15m from the next hut. We didn't see or hear our neighbors, it was perfectly private. The layout of the house was perfect for us (our 2 kids, my wife and I, and my parents), as there are 2 sections: Two rooms with a bathroom in the middle, and on the other end a master suite with its own bathroom. The construction is beautifully done, all wood and glass (there are literally windows around the entire house, not a single gap), and pretty much no plastic. It looks and feels very natural - hence the name. There are tons of little things that showed us the owner really thought about what he was building, from the natural style showers to the built-in shelves in the rooms. The deck is huge - and amazing. It rained about once a day while we were there, but it's no issue because the deck is so big. Couch, table, chairs, sun chairs, hammocks.. plenty of space for everyone. The house perfectly sits on that fine line between offering enough amenities to feel super comfortable, but still feeling like it's smack dab in the jungle and next to the ocean. It's got (hot) running water and full power, but the upper part of the beach-facing wall is open to let in air and light. It's got great water pressure, but the shower is made from natural stone and feels like an outdoor shower. The connection to the resort is great as well. Drinks and food when you need it, and kayaks and SUPs and snorkels etc. to use for free... just great. We used the gear every day. We did the dolphin and snorkeling tour, worth every cent. We saw probably 50 dolphins, some so close we felt we could touch them. Went to 2 snorkeling spots, saw tons of fish and colorful reefs. Michel and the team are super friendly and responsive. Huge shoutout to Marvin, Jacob, Ismael, and all the others. We had them all on Whatsapp, and if we ever needed anything, a short message was enough and we were looked after. Seriously great hosts. Oh - yeah, there's WiFi at the property, which is awesome too! We spent 10 days at the house, and can honestly say they were some of the most memorable days of our lives so far. We're already planning to come back...!
