3BR Villa in Dominical

Excellent, 4 weeks ago

We loved Casa Arenosa! Great location, clean, and the kitchen had everything we needed. We enjoyed our stay and would stay here again if we go back to the area.

We had an incredible week at Casa Arenosa, the setting is simply stunning, you are in the jungle and you can hear the waves at your doorstep. I think the upstairs shower is literally the most beautiful in the world, you are looking across at the treetops, if you are lucky might see the monkeys swing by. This is the perfect location for surfing Backwash and Pan Dulce. But I highly recommend Cabo Matapalo surf guides for exploring other breaks as well. If you are a birder then you are in heaven. The kitchen was well stocked, and the house layout has plenty of spaces to relax. We are already planning to return.

Excellent trip as always

The place is absolutely beautiful. Even more so than the pictures. There have been some changes since the pictures were published. Very private location with an almost private beach. Very responsive groundskeeper, Chicky, full of knowledge and super helpful. We had housekeeping once during our stay which was very nice. Super clean and comfortable. You definitely need to rent a 4 x 4 SUV as the roads are very uneven and unmaintained. Better directions with more landmarks would be helpful since the original directions are a little bit outdated. Casa Arenosa does show up on maps but no directions found from Puerto Jimenez because the Malopalo unmaintained road is not marked. The whole house is open air, so make sure you are comfortable with no A/C. It was cooler with the fans provided inside the bed. You are in the jungle so expect a giant wolf spider crawling around, raccoons opening your refrigerator if not taped shut. Plunge pool was refreshing with fresh water, no chlorine.

It was a bit magical. We were actually in the rain forest. I know there were people nearby but with all the foliage it didn’t seem like it. Getting there was quite an adventure!! The roads are a bit hard to navigate but I would do it again in a heartbeat. I loved it being almost all outdoors. The plunge pool was soooo welcome. We used it a lot. The kitchen which is not enclosed was very comfortable with a great refrigerator which we bungee corded at night to keep the raccoons out. I absolutely loved being able to see all the animal life right in our backyard. They included Spider Monkeys, Black Howlers, Agouti, Tayra, Coati, Iguana, McCaw, Parrots, Toucan and vultures, etc. we live in very dry Southern California so we left there with a heavy heart except for the interest in being dry again. Chiki was really helpful with everything!!! Last but not least, the beach ,which was gorgeous, was (I counted them) 60 steps away on a cute little private path. Unbelievable place!!!!!

Wonderful as always.

I hate to rave about this place because it may be harder to book on our next stay. But the truth is, this place needs to be raved about. Private, but right on the ocean surrounded by jungle. All the wild life your heart desires, and then some. Cheky is the care giver who lives right next door. He is a delight and very helpful with any issues that come up. We had such a wonderful time filling the day with early morning swims in the ocean, late morning hikes through the jungle and afternoon cool downs in the soaking pool. We would love to come back with the family though we would hesitate to bring kids under the age of seven. All in all it was a piece of magical heaven and Sandy’s attention to detail had a great deal to do with that.

Wowowow!!! This place is incredible! We seen monkeys daily. Several types! The beach access is simple and the beach is beautiful! The perfect jungle house with open air. Ask for Jako!!!! Jako helped us book private chef, massage( in home) snorkel, dolphin watch, turtle release, Corcavado National park. He knows everyone who provides guest services. We travel a lot and always use Airbnb. This is our favorite place! The home is perfect and the kind and welcoming people are even better!!! Good luck finding dates because this place has been discovered! Should you be so lucky to book, you won’t be disappointed!

The location of the house just next the Backwash Beach is unbeatable. Chiky, the caretaker. and Pamela, the cleaning lady, are super helpful and nice. The setting of the kitchen with the bar is top. Also the communication with the owner, Sandy, was very friendly. As we know Matapalo pretty well and have stayed in other locations nearby we know certain standards. For what you pay the whole property needs to be renovated. The shower heads don't function properly, the towels are worn out, the bedsheets are out of syndicate material, the shutters falling apart. etc.

Host Response

Hi Ariane, Thanks for the kind words about the location—and especially about Chiky and Pamela. They work incredibly hard and care deeply about making sure guests feel supported and at home. Following our conversations during and after your stay - I know we’ve already spoken with you about most of the concerns you mentioned - But since they’re now included here, I’ll just reiterate that we’ve addressed the majority of them and are actively in the process of updating linens, fixtures, and making additional repairs. We care deeply about our guests’ experiences and do our best to address concerns quickly—and in real time when it’s physically possible. As you know from being a homeowner here too, the elements can wear things down quickly, but we’re committed to ongoing improvements and keeping the house in even better shape than what you experienced. Wishing you all the best as you settle into the area.
