2BR Cottage in Santiago Atitlan

Casa de los Pájaros was perfect for our stay in Santiago. It was comfortable and peaceful, and we really enjoyed our stay. Sarah was very responsive and friendly. We would definitely stay again!

We loved staying at Casa Pájaros! It was super comfortable and had everything we needed. I hadn’t understood from the description that there isn’t a view of the lake from the Casa itself, but it was just a short walk away. We really enjoyed using the hot tub, sauna, and kayaks. The road between the casa area and the lake area is fairly busy which makes it easy to catch rides to town when needed. There is a water treatment plant a little ways down the road, which is a bit noisy when you’re out on the water in front of the property. Sarah was a wonderful host - responsive and helpful. Overall, we loved Casa Pájaros! Thanks, Sarah.

A lovely little stone casita on the grounds of the old posada de santiago. The grounds are lovely and the old restaurant is still there and its quite good. But what is stunning, are the views the amenities, including an amazing pool and Jacuzzi and Palapa just area across the street, with the most phenomenal views of the lake and the volcan de san pedro! The host was responsive and here instructions were clear. It is the nicest place i have stayed in Santiago, which is my personal favorite on the lake.

We had a last minute change of plans and Sarah was able to accommodate us for one night. She provided excellent instructions and was always quick to respond. Her house is exactly as the description and photos show it. Very nice place with plenty of room for our family of 4. Having filtered water available was great. The Posada is a lovely location with amazing views of Volcan San Pedro and lots of activities. The staff are all super helpful and aim to please. Overall it's a great place to stay and we would definitely come back!

We loved our stay at Sarah’s place! Such a unique location and cozy home. Spacious for a couple but could easily sleep 4. The restaurant nearby is great. The hot tub that overlooks the lake and volcano was a big highlight. Highly rec!

We had a great time at Sarah's place. Sarah is extremely helpful, responsive and friendly. Would stay there again.

Sarah's place was great! It's a very cozy casita a two minute walk to the shores of beautiful Lake Atitlan. Across the street from the resort there is a pool/jacuzzi area where you can rent kayaks off of a little private dock; there are lockers to use if you decide to venture out onto the lake (strongly recommend taking out the kayaks!). Last, the restaurant on the property is exceptional, and from what I understand is one of the best restaurants in Santiago Atitlan. Sarah was a great, flexible, and very communicative host. I strongly recommend this listing!

The lakefront area has a very nice private dock, very well kept gardens, super cute pool. It was the most beautiful thing about the property.

We had an amazing time at Casa Pajaros. The house is located within a safe gated community filled with flowers and birds. We loved the private waterfront facilities - pool, jacuzzi, temazcal, kayaks - all well maintained by the wonderful staff. From there, the view of San Pedro is stunning. The restaurant was convenient; the food was fresh and prepared with care. You can have food delivered to the pool! The Posada is on the edge of Santiago Atitlan making it a quiet retreat. Tuk tuk costs 5 Q/person to reach the city center. We highly recommend checking it out on market days. Sarah is a wonderful host, always available to answer questions and give recommendations. Through Sarah, we found a driver who drove us directly from Antigua, and asked the housekeeper to prepare us Guatemalan meals - some of the most authentic meals we’d had. Our cabin had two bedrooms. The house with its original one bedroom is beautifully built, however we found the vaulted bedroom needed a refresh.

Sarah's Airbnb is so cute and charming!! It is in a fenced in yard with lots of trees and plants around for privacy. You can walk down to the lake to the pool and hot tub which overlook the lake. You must reserve the hot tub, kayaks, and canoes. But we had no issues with that. There was staff to help with questions about reserving. When by the lake, HIGHLY recommend using the lockers by the pools and keeping valuables in sight at all times. There is a nearby town about 5 minutes away. At night, you can hear dogs barking distantly, but that did not bother me. I loved the place and can't wait to go back again!

A wonderful, quiet, hidden gem at the lake. The house is super cute, peaceful, and quiet. The pool on the lakefront was amazing. The on-site restaurant makes the stay remarkably easy if the short walk into town feels like too much after a day of relaxing or exploring.

It is a place to rest

Host Response

Hi Selvin, thanks for taking the time to leave a review. I'm disappointed to see that you only gave 3 stars, your comment doesn't leave much information to understand why. But you are correct, that it is a place to rest and relax. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay, even if your 3-star review doesn't reflect that.

Our stay was perfect. For the price of this airbnb we got way more than others! The grounds are beautiful and the place was fully stocked with anything you could ever need. The beds were comfortable. We enjoyed spending evenings on the couch on the patio. Our daughter loved the parrot on our front porch! Breakfast was basic, just fruit, bread, and granola, but it was right next door to lots of great restaurants. It is right in the middle of town, but was so quiet in our room. Wonderful stay.

Small but good place to stay. The hotel has amazing food

Host Response

Hi Jose, thanks for letting folks know that you had expected the house to be bigger. I think the photos show all of the available spaces of the house, so it will be good for future guests to note that the house is not bigger than the pictures indicate. You privately messaged and let me know that you thought the pool was part of the house and were not aware that the house was part of a community. However, the listing clearly states that there are about 10 houses in the community and that the pool is shared with the other houses. Thanks for noting that it's a "good place to stay" I don't think the 3-star review does the house justice. The poor rating seems to be based on your misconception of the place. However, those who read the reviews, they will not make the same mistake! So that's helpful.

Pretty place, lovely interior design. Reccomend! We enjoyed lake access, kayaks & sauna! We stayed 13 days. Very responsive & helpful. Sarah is passionate about making her guests enjoy their stay. We went hiking with her family! Found raw milk in Canton Tzanchaj. We enjoyed short walk to the produce market in Santiago, visited La Reserva in Pana, health food store in San Pedro (Salud Para Vida), dance at the Eagle's Nest in San Pedro, went cliff jumping in San Pedro (Cerro Tzankujil). We do not eat out, but restaurant at the foot of the property is delicious. We ordered beef fajitas, blue corn tortillas, & tres taquitos with beef, beans, guacamole. Also, good flats of chicken eggs. Not many cons, however we did not like: no morning sunlight, takes a while to make the temperature of the shower just right, & dining seating is not comfortable. We used couch pillows to make the chairs comfortable. There were loud neighbors our 11th night, other than that it was quiet.

This is one of those super special places you'll wish you can stay in for a long long time. It's super cute and creatively built with lush garden surrounds, but also has everything you'll need for a comfortable stay. Great kitchen and bathroom, comfy beds and is very very secure within a gated community of equally beautiful and unique abodes. There's also access to excellent facilities right next to the lake, looking out at the volcano...we used the jacuzzi at night and did some early morning kayaking on the glass-like water. Swimming pool, Yoga hut and sauna are also available in the same location. Truly it was bliss. I didn't miss TV at all, although the wifi was excellent so accessing things online is certainly possible if that is your want. My only regret is that the stay was so short. But that only means I'll be back... Thanks Sarah!

My wife and I had an excellent weekend enjoying the cozy "the bird house" , kayaking, using the sauna and the relaxing jacuzzi. The staff follows the spirit of the host, Sarah, as they were very attentive and very kind, especially Don Miguel. The food offered by the restaurant is exquisite, very original in its elaboration. We will return to this place soon and enjoy the privacy, silence, amenities and unforgettable view that this place offers volcanoes.

Santiago was the best part of our trip and Sarah’s place was everything we needed and more! The check in process was very straight forward, the house was perfect (clean, hot shower, adorable), and the property was quiet and beautiful. Sarah’s binder with local information was super thorough and helped us navigate the lake better. She was so responsive whenever we had a small question. Everyone on the property was extremely kind and hospitable and went out of their way to greet us and provide good local info. The hot tub was a perfect way to end both of our days there. We definitely recommend using a guide and hiking Volcan Atitlan- Esteban was our point person and his info is in the binder. The food and service at La Postada was incredible. The best during our whole trip in all of Guatemala (seriously! Everything is made in house)! This town is a must see if you want to have a genuine, authentic experience of the beautiful culture of Lake Atitlan. We felt safe and welcomed everywhere we went and were thrilled to have Sarah’s house as our home base.

Sarah has been so communicative from the very beginning. She checked in with us often. She helped us connect with a shuttle driver that took us straight to Santiago instead of having to take a boat from Panajachel. She offered services that would normally cost a fee, but gave them gratis because we had a longer stay. She offered many amenities (coffee, soap, etc) that not all hosts offer. The fixtures and appliances are superb. Having a washing machine is a really nice touch! we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to return someday!

Awesome house. In a nice secluded area just out of town (only a couple of minutes walk). Great kitchen fully stocked with everything you need, the most comfortable bed I’ve slept on in three weeks in Guatemala and fantastic facilities available (temezcal in the evening especially). Loved every second we were here, highly recommend.

I love the house, the small community and the staff of the common areas very friendly and willing to help. Great communication with the host. Highly recommended for a small family getaway, as it's usually difficult to find a house for 4 people. Easy to get around with the Tuc Tucs.
