2BR Bungalow in Puerto Jiménez

Maroesja

Excellent, 2 weeks ago

We had a fantastic stay at Villa Tapir at Amapola Lodge. Everything was basically exactly as described on Airbnb, which we really appreciated. The villa is spacious, comfortable and surrounded by beautiful tropical nature. We loved the peaceful setting, the pool and the feeling of being immersed in the jungle while still being only a short drive from Puerto Jiménez and the beach. But what really made our stay special was Gerardo, the onsite manager. He is absolutely the best! He is incredibly kind, helpful and seems to be able to do anything. When we got a flat tire, Gerardo immediately came to our rescue and even changed the tire for us. He also took the time to show us fresh tropical fruits and point out animals around the property. His genuine friendliness and willingness to help made us feel very welcome. Amapola Lodge is a wonderful place for anyone who wants to experience the beauty and tranquility of the Osa Peninsula. We would happily stay here again and highly recommend it.

We had a wonderful week in this beautiful rainforest paradise. It was a very beautiful property, with lots of wildlife that could be seen from the balcony and from the lovely, well-kept swimming pool. We also went on a couple of fantastic trips, both to Cocovardo and a wonderful dolphin tour where the dolphins jumped around the boat. Arturo's tropical cabin is completely unique and, precisely for that reason, a special experience. It was very hot and above the normal average temperatures, and since we are used to cooler weather in Denmark, it was sometimes too hot in the large open living room, even with the fans. But then we could cool off in the pool and in the nice room with air conditioning. You are close to nature, and that also means you will see a few lizards, etc., inside because of the open design. For us, it was just like the real experience, and we loved the place. The family who lived separately on the property was so kind and helpful, showed us many animals, brought us delicious fruit from the garden, and made the experience even more special.

Host Response

Hello Marie!! Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review! 😊 It makes us immensely happy to know that you enjoyed your week at Amapola Lodge and that you took away such special memories of the Osa Peninsula. We're very happy that you were able to experience the magic of Corcovado, the dolphin tour and, above all, that you enjoyed the nature that surrounds us. Sharing this little corner of the tropical forest with people who know how to appreciate it is what motivates us the most. We also want to thank you for understanding that being part of the jungle means living with its fauna and climate, since that makes the experience authentic and unique. It was truly a pleasure to welcome you and to know that Gerardo and his family were able to make your stay even more special. We sincerely hope to welcome you back to Amapola Lodge someday. You will always have a home here in Costa Rica. Wish them all the best! With great affection, Arturo & the Amapola Lodge family 🌿🦥🇨🇷

The Amapola lodge is a treasure...the family that is on the property is what made it feel extra special. I won't spoil the sweet surprises but they provide an experience that is so heart felt and special. But rest assured it is extremely private - still, knowing there is a local person on the property in such a remote area like the OSA is actually very comforting and they are very very willing to share their knowledge. Be sure to bring a translator or practice your Spanish though if you want to chat. It is all part of the experience. The home is just like the pictures, rustic but very very clean. The sheets and pillows were very nice quality - and so was everything else. Cooking outside was so fun too! If you are willing to have a more immersed experience rather than your typical *all inclusive resort*, choose this stay and you will always remember and cherish it. Thank you Gerardo and your family and Arturo for making it all possible. We love the Osa Peninsula even more now :)

This place is truly unique and great for those who want something a little different than most other places and don’t mind being ~15 mins away from town. It is a mixture of rustic and modern. The lodge itself was huge and great for larger families or groups. The bedroom is air conditioned (one full size bed), but all other beds are all together in a single open sleeping area with ceiling fans. It’s a cool/unique building that can be opened up to let in all the sounds of nature if you’d like. It has several bathrooms and lots of ceiling fans. The swimming pool and outdoor eating area is very nice and a great compliment to the more rustic environment. We only stayed for one night so we didn’t get to take advantage of everything, but the host was friendly and explained things well. We experienced a power outage about a half hour before check-out, so just keep in mind that these things can happen in a jungle environment. Overall had a great short stay.

I’ve stayed at many AirBnBs in Costa Rica and this was one of the nicest properties. The pool was lovely and surrounded by the jungle with birds, monkeys, and peccaries in abundance. They have two lovely dogs that were such a joy to have around. The roundhouse was a great set up if you have a large group. One room is private for 2 people (with air conditioning) and the other one has 4 beds (no AC). Outdoor cooking was wonderful. Gerardo and Beatriz were the best hosts I’ve ever. They don’t speak English - but we were able to communicate very easily (I speak a little bit of Spanish but not well!) The location is close to Playa Blanca (5 mins) which was awesome. Puerto Jimenez was 20 mins by car. They were incredibly responsive when I got food poisoning, and helped navigate getting a few things and doing laundry. He helped us book wonderful tours - I highly recommend the Gulfo Dulce Exploradores boat tour. Overall don’t hesitate to book Arturo’s place - you’ll love it!

We had a great time at Amapola Lodge. The house is very spacious and the air-conditioned bedroom is a nice asset. It's a good place to stay in Amapola, the pool and summer kitchen are very pleasant but above all there is a safe atmosphere. Gerardo and his wife as well as Arturo's parents were on the site, they are discreet and very considerate and showed us all the animals that passed on the property (peccaries, macaws, toucans, pavones...). The only downside is for insect phobics because the house is made of wood, there may be small animals that enter the house... Thank you so much for your welcome.
