The property itself is as pictured; however, our overall experience was significantly impacted by the management style. Communication from the co-host was frequent and often centered around minor housekeeping matters, which created a supervisory atmosphere rather than a relaxed stay. We were also contacted outside of the Airbnb platform on multiple occasions, despite Airbnb recommending communication remain within the app for documentation purposes. Guests who value privacy and minimal oversight may want to clarify expectations in advance before booking.
Host Response
First of all the yard was maintained 3x a week for the month stay. There was never any mention of ants. You are on the beach first of all. The co host was me and I am the actual owner of the home. My Host is my daughter and nothing in the rules and regulations say anything about who can contact you. You went into a private area that was under lock and key and used some of my personal belongings. When something is under lock and key you automatically assume that it is off limits! My water bill was 4x the regular amount and my Electric bill was 5x the normal amount! They had more guests there than what was agreed and also had guests that trespassed my property as well with no permission! NO I WOULD DEFINTALY NOT RENT TO THEM !!! I WAS VIOLATED BY THEM GOING INTO LOCKED AREAS!!!!
This place is a gem. Locals asked why we stayed in Playa Matapalo as it is remote, but we can’t imagine a better location to stay. The beach is amazing and straight out the back door. You are walking from the rainforest directly onto the beach. Smoothest sand I’ve ever felt. Turtle rescue hatchery is a 5 minute walk down the beach, be sure to check this out in the late afternoon as they release the baby turtles. Keep an eye out in the afternoon as a troop of monkeys with pass through the property. We even had a sloth chilling in a tree next door for 3 days. Macaws passed by a few times, but found a huge group at the public beach just down the road. Eat at the Matapalo Supper Club in town for a fantastic unique experience. Local horseback ride on the beach with Angelo was a great and memorable experience. House has all of the beach supplies you need. Be sure to pick up groceries in Quepos on the way as there is limited options in town.
This house was very close to the ocean and it's beautiful beach.
The location of this spot was a magical dream. The beach is a gorgeous, beautiful wide chocolate sand beach that goes forever in both directions. There was a huge shady place to hang hammocks between the house and the beach. We were 5 in total, Abuela (79), two kids (6 & 11) and myself and my husband. We all absolutely loved this home and location and would absolutely return.
Kaleigh’s home was beautiful in a wonderful area. Very private despite having other homes nearby. The beach was nearly empty the entire time we were there. We really appreciated having beach chairs and a boogie board available. Watching the monkeys and other animals was a fun time. The nearby restaurant and store A Kachete was helpful. Close enough to Dominical for a quick drive with nice restaurants and shops. Lots to do nearby. Despite the concerns about crime in the area we experienced no problems at all. I would highly recommend the home for a quiet, relaxing vacation.
If you like the sea and animals, this house should definitely book this house. The sunsets are truly spectacular! We were visited by monkeys and iguanas and discovered a sloth across the street. The direct access to the sea is great and the beach is only visited by a few people. The house was clean and equipped with everything needed. We highly recommend this place, enjoyed our time there and would definitely come back!
The most beautiful views, a cozy home with everything you would need & very kind and responsive host(s)! Kaleigh always helped leading up to the trip and Rolando was incredibly informative and helpful upon arrival. Will be coming back!
Everything was beautiful and perfect! Was clean we were met promptly. They were plenty of supplies in the kitchen and the beds were comfortable. We especially like the location on the beach. Thank you so much!
Excellent location, beautiful beach, amazing sunsets, lots of wildlife out back, peaceful setting, loved the outdoor shower, everything you need for the beach is available, small but efficient kitchen with everything one needs to prepare meals, 2 full baths w excellent water pressure in showers, beds are average but comfortable w lots of pillows and linens. Lots of quality restaurants close by, the local mini-market as perfect, also lots of adventures to book close by that were wonderful- Our host was a dream to work with. We loved our stay and hope to return!
This place is amazing. We were looking for as private as we could get and got it. There other rentals next door on both sides but they were not occupied while we were there. Pretty much house, back porch, small yard, strip of palms then beach! Very obvious the owner actually spends time in this house as the kitchen is fully equipped for what people actually need. Our 1st 10 minutes there we saw sloths, monkeys and resident yard iguanas. The monkeys tour through the beach every few days. Adorbs but also they are not scared of you. We had one come to the fence and he wasn’t messing around. I would show some caution they are not pets. Still lots of pictures. The store was a convenient walk and fairly safe but a little expensive. Only game in town. I did go 1 time without my boyfriend and was harassed a bit. Still not worse than going to 7-11 at night. Altogether great place! Pay attention to the safety precautions. This is not the US. Totally worth it.
Great spot! Kaleigh and Rolando were great hosts and very responsive. A true gem to unplug and relax. Walking distance to great local restaurants and the beach was perfect! The bigger town, Dominical is just a short 10-15 min drive but not necessary. All you need is within walking distance. Our second time in this area and will definitely be back!
Stayed as family of four for best part of a week during a trip around Costa Rica. We loved it here and could have stayed longer! The beach was our garden complete with multiple iguanas and sloth! Beach to ourselves, waves perfect for bodyboarding. Small supermarket and restaurant within walking distance. House very well equipped - good kitchen, beach equipment, lots of towels. Welcome wine and coffee very much appreciated. Don’t hesitate to book!!
What a fabulous place! The house was spotless upon arrival. We were offered a bottle of wine, fruit and coffee as a welcome gift, which really made us happy. The location is idyllic, tranquil, perfect for resting and contemplation. Kaleigh was always available for answering our question, and Rolando's welcome was friendly and friendly. The neighbor spends the rate on the grounds every day! Capuchin monkeys come to go crazy around the house at the end of the afternoon. It was an unforgettable stay and we look forward to returning one day. Definitely recommend.
Great place! Really clean, perfect beach, and sooooo many monkeys. We had a great time and the place had nearly everything we needed.
A gorgeous piece of paradise! We and my wife had an amazing time. Great food around the house, amazing views and everything you could need at the house! We would highly recommend this home and we would definitely stay here again in the future! Sloths and monkeys along with all kinds of wildlife that come by the house. The beach was great and laying in the hammocks provided at the house was one of our favorite things to do in the afternoons. Many things to do around the home and we would highly recommend doing the horse back riding tour of the beach with Angelo! Kaleigh was a great host who was very helpful and we couldn’t thank her enough!
