We had a great week in Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, staying at Jason's house, and the experience was fantastic. The house is very well located, close to everything, and it is a perfect place to enjoy the area and unwind. We recommend having a 4x4, especially if it rains a lot, since the road to the house can become quite an adventure, although at no time did we feel unsafe. We would definitely stay here again and we highly recommend staying here.

Unfortunately, the accommodation did not match the description as a "luxurious house." The kitchen in particular was not in good condition: The refrigerator seals were visibly moldy, the exhaust hood was badly discolored, and many kitchen utensils were old, worn, and sometimes rusty. These shortcomings significantly affected the overall impression and do not match the advertised standard. On the positive side, Airbnb handled the case very professionally. Due to the defects found, we were able to cancel the booking in full and received a 100% refund. We would like to express our sincere thanks to Airbnb for this.
Host Response
Here’s what this guest did: Showed up for honeymoon. Wife wasn’t happy with the place so instead of being reasonable they were rude to the staff and when I explained that you can’t get a refund because the air in the place is humid and your wife is unsatisfied then they took pictures of salty air rust on the fridge and microwave and complained about old discoloration on the refrigerator lining to get out of the booking due to “cleanliness issues” as if somehow a stain on the fridge lining and some salt water humidity rust on the appliance would ruin there vacation or cause a sanitation issue. It was complete rubbish. People like this abuse Airbnb policy to simply get money out of the hosts and act justified. I would never rent to these people again even if I was starving. Money simply isn’t worth the disrespect to the hosts or the Costa Rican people who lose from this type of guest. No respect.

Overall this was a gorgeous airbnb with a generally gracious host. I would absolutely stay again; however, I encountered an emergency in the beginning (not the host’s fault at all) and tried to push the entire trip back by 2 days (total days would have been the same) and they were not willing to budge at all due to the policies of the listing. Again, I understand it wasn’t the host’s fault but their lack of flexibility here was really a bummer. My only other complaint would be that the kitchen needs more supplies, but we were able to get by. That all said - the property is beautiful. There were a few hiccups but the host was extremely responsive and got someone out to fix problems almost immediately. I left behind a few items and he has said he will have them mailed to me. If you want a quiet getaway right near the beach and in the jungle then this is your spot. Just be aware of the policies and that there seem to be zero exceptions to them.

Beautiful setting. Very clean. Comfortable beds. Sloths lived in the trees in the “yard”. Bird song is the best. Can’t beat the view waking up in the morning.

Really beautiful place for a retreat and escape. We worked from there, 2 zooms and no problem with internet. The landscaping is beautiful and the pool is incredible.
