3BR Villa in Nicoya

Pilar

Excellent, 1 week ago

Great

Beautiful house, very designer, well laid out. A kitchen with all the essentials to make meals on site. Choice of appliances and a fully equipped set of dishes. Spacious rooms and very comfortable beds. Outside, a nice little pool and a breathtaking view! The cleaning service comes by every day and changes the towels. No washing machine, but laundry service is included. Nati was responsive throughout the stay. Areas for improvement: Gas leak at the BBQ, blown light bulbs, the oven wasn't working. Too bad it wasn't checked and fixed before our arrival. The water flow in the master bedroom shower is very low. The access road is very steep and in very poor condition. Be careful if you suffer from back pain or vertigo. 4x4 is essential.

Villa Shefa is a beautiful place if given some love & care. We didn’t meet our hostess, Nati, but communication via messaging felt awkward. With some effort to look into the details the villa would have been fantastic. For example: WiFi on the 1st floor is patchy, drainage in the main bathroom got clogged, pool pump to be checked regularly, basic kitchen provisions could be provided, kitchen knives to be sharpened, etc. The villa has a lot of potential. The view from the hill is magnificent.

Host Response

Thank you for your feedback. We always appreciate constructive comments, and we would like to clarify a few points for the sake of accuracy and transparency for future guests. Regarding the sugar and pepper mentioned in your feedback, these are not amenities or provisions included in the listing. Nevertheless, when you requested them, we went out of our way to purchase sugar and deliver it to the villa during your stay. Regarding the pool pump, as soon as you reported the issue, we immediately had it checked. We informed you that unfortunately the pump had broken and that a replacement needed to be purchased. This was an unexpected technical issue, and we acted on it as soon as we were made aware of it. What is particularly difficult for us to understand is that several of the other issues mentioned in your review, the Wi-Fi on the first floor, the clogged bathroom drain, the kitchen knives, the towels, were never reported to us during your stay. Had we been informed, we would have had the opportunity to address them immediately, just as we did with the pool pump and your request for additional kitchen provisions. We are always happy to resolve issues when guests communicate them to us during their stay. It is therefore unfortunate to learn about several of these concerns for the first time through a public review, when they could have been addressed while you were at the property. We take our guests’ feedback seriously and continuously work to improve Villa Shefa. At the same time, we believe reviews should accurately reflect what was communicated and how concerns were handled during the stay. We wish you all the best in your future travels.

The villa is as pictured and described in the listing. Excellent host communication. We were surprised how well you could hear the waves crashing from the back patio area. The villa also has an extra freezer and refrigerator in the kitchen area. An iguana popped out from under the pool patio near the shower to say hello. We were also greeted with daily bird sounds, hummingbird visits, and the occasional centipede on the back patio. Temp control is very difficult in the villa. Whatever temp it is outside, that is what it will be on the main floor, upstairs hallway, and all bathrooms. Master bedroom is difficult to cool down with AC. The other two bedrooms can be easily cooled with AC. The villa location feels extremely secure, but many of the windows do not lock. Upstairs bathtub and shower pressure are very weak. The shower with the plants around it has great water pressure on the main floor. Worn lettering on oven knobs made it difficult to use. Road is rough, follow Mikaya signs.

The villa was absolutely beautiful! The host was very responsive before, during and after our stay. Cleaners stopped by daily and the pool was also cleaned during our 7 day stay. The kitchen is stocked with plenty of cups, plates, appliances etc to cook your own food while you stay! Our host also recommended us a private chef (Chef Paola) who cooked an incredible coursed dinner for a birthday we were celebrating. All around, the villa was amazing and I’d highly recommend. Just make sure you get an ATV, dirt bike, or side by side dropped off to the villa upon your arrival! The host coordinated this for us which was a huge help. You’ll 100% need one of those vehicles to access the property!
