Not sure where to begin. Seems obvious that it should be the property, and the property is exceptional and memorable. But it was really the people working at and around the villas. Each person we met was a local - and as genuinely nice as you can possibly hope for. This matters as much to us as any other feature, and we’re thankful we found this special place.

The view, the diversity of birdlife, the outdoor living space - all so much more incredible than described. The lush landscaping and care with which Blue Mountain Farms Villa 1 was designed and built is obvious. Gorgeous, high, wooden ceilings; the use of space that is economical, yet enough; the indoor & outdoor kitchens had all we needed for family meals; the comfy beds & linen; spotless throughout. I awoke at 5 every morning well-rested and bird watched with my scope. In 2 mins, the Merlin app captured 16 birds listening to the cacophony of sound! The wonder of the birdlife! Kevin greeted us warmly when we arrived, provided a tour of the full property and keys w/ automatic gate opener. We were stunned by our first sunset. The villa is up the mountain (a 6-min drive up a dirt road from the main road below), so the view of the forest & ocean in the distance - magical. 15-mins from town & Samara beach. Roxana was sweet, responsive; Gabriela and Maruja provided excellent housekeeping.

Wonderful place, everything was well thought out. The check-in with Roxanne and her advice on the surrounding area were more than helpful. The house is impeccable, the beds are super comfortable, and what can I say about the location? A huge wow. 🤩

A beautiful home in an absolutely stunning setting! Even the lovely photos just don't do it justice! Sunrise and sunsets are spectacular. The views from the patio sitting area look out across a beautiful valley to the sea. Birds, including flocks of parrots, butterflies can be seen, and you hear the sounds of the forest including the howler monkeys while you are sitting out there. We walked the trail down to the river, which was dry at this time of year, but it was an enjoyable, mostly shady walk. The house was spotlessly clean, the kitchen is extremely well equipped, and the pool and patio are very comfortable with multiple seating areas and options. Even on the hottest day, the patio remained cool and breezy. They were very accommodating of a small request that we discussed prior to arrival, which was much appreciated! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

This place is absolutely beautiful. Quiet, peaceful, with so much nature. We spent the mornings relaxing on the deck seeing howler monkeys, parrots, and iguanas. The house was super clean and the outdoor space made us never want to leave. It’s secluded from town so you feel like you’re in your own little world. I would absolutely recommend it to everyone.

We had a wonderful trip with our family of 4! The property is beautiful, with a great little pool, gorgeous views, and a solid location. The kitchen was well stocked with plenty of cookware, utensils, and accessories, which made cooking meals easy and enjoyable. The staff were friendly and quick to help with anything we needed. We loved the wildlife! Lots of howler monkeys calling in the trees, a resident iguana that would pop up, and the makeup cotton balls doubled as earplugs to help quiet the nightly toad chorus. A couple of things to keep in mind for future guests: • Beach towels were limited at first, but the staff brought more as soon as we asked. • Shower pressure was on the lower side—if you have thick hair, scrub during the day when pressure is up or use the outdoor shower. • No in-unit laundry, though the staff handled requests efficiently. Overall, it was a pleasant, relaxing spot that was perfect for our family. We’d recommend it and would stay again!

We returned to the Retreat for the third time in five years this February. It keeps getting better every year. The team that runs this place is friendly, proactive, and extremely accommodating. The home and surrounding property is stunning--which is one of the things that keeps us coming back. A new highlight this year was a chef-prepared dinner onsite one night. Setting this up was easy, the meal was spectacular, and having the team there for dinner was an exceptional experience. We are really grateful to Christopher & his team for making our stay so lovely and are already mapping out dates to return.

We had the most wonderful time at Christopher’s villa. The view was spectacular overlooking the jungle with the ocean in the distance and yet was so easy to get down the mountain to the beach and into town whenever we wanted. Every day we looked forward to just hanging out in the pool, watching the parrots and the iguanas and listening to the howler monkeys. It was idyllic. We loved the dinners we had on property and thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Kevin, the property manager. The villa was spotless, beautiful and very comfortable with everything we needed. We can’t wait to return and hopefully will be able to stay for a bit longer!

We had a great a great stay with 2 adults and 4 kids. The property is pristine with great valley and ocean views. The small pool was great for cooling off. A couple updates since the pictures were taken. The property does not have a hammock, and has a single bunk bed with upper/lower rather than the two uppers with lower desks in the pictures. Overall we recommend this property!

The house is simply amazing! The outdoor space with the pool, terrace, outdoor kitchen and trails allows you to have a good time with family with always stunning views of the mountains and ocean! The house is spacious and very well-equipped. Access to the house is secure and ideally requires a 4x4 vehicle. Samara is only 15 minutes away and the road is very good. Hosts offer personalized 5-star service. Communication is fast and they are attentive to our needs. Thanks to Kevin, Josue and Jonathan!!! I recommend it for a pied-à-terre near Samara and for relaxing with family! Pura Vida!!!

This home is beyond what pictures can capture. Our family of six enjoyed every minute of our time here. The view, the pool , the comfort of the home is unmatched. This was our third time in Samara and this was by far the best home we have stayed in yet! Thank you for creating a great location that filled our family with a lifetime of memories. The long family

Our family of four had an incredible stay. The views are impeccable and the home itself is equipped for comfortable living and is in pristine condition. Josue and his team maintain the property at an impressive level and offer world class hospitality. Will book again next time we visit Costa Rica.

We stayed here for a week, everyone in my party thoroughly enjoyed our stay. As said by many already, the view is incredible, very peaceful and relaxing property. The house was very clean, beds comfortable, and all of the outdoor furniture was great as well. Our stay was towards the end of dry season so it was very hot so the pool was great to lounge in and cool off every day. The drive up the hill to the house was daunting at first but after the first go it was really nothing, we didn't have issues with a standard SUV rental. We saw lots of howler monkeys, iguanas, lizards and the daily overhead parakeet fly-by around dinner time. Jonathan and Kevin were very helpful onsite, great guys, we appreciated all their help and overall friendliness. Great property, close to Samara and a hard to beat view, would highly recommend this rental. Thanks for everything.

This is the best Airbnb I have ever stayed! My family of four had a magical time at The Retreat. My kids were in the pool three times a day and we ate every meal outside. The house was so beautiful and comfortable, which was perfect to return to after beach visits— especially after a fun day of learning to surf at Tico’s! Josue was the best host and went above and beyond for us. He was an incredible communicator and made sure we felt at home. The view is as spectacular as it looks in the pictures and we enjoyed all the surrounding nature. We saw iguanas, macaws, and hollower monkeys! We will definitely be back!
