8BR Villa in Akumal

Excellent, 4 weeks ago

This place is amazing. Right on the beach. The house has a lot of space, confortable beds, beautiful pool. The service of the cleaning people, chef and house keeper were top class. Our family of ten had a great time celebrating grandpa’s birthday. Thanks to Claudia for the cake!

We had an incredible stay at Villa Turquesa. Our group of 12 had tons of space, everything was spotless, and we felt completely safe at all hours. The peaceful setting was amazing - all we heard at night were ocean waves. We spent most of our time outdoors swimming, kayaking, and snorkelling. The pool is small and chilly but perfect for a morning dip. Inside, the primary suite was unbelievable, and having an ensuite in every bedroom was a game‑changer. Water pressure was great and Wi‑Fi worked well on the main floor. Mosquitos were a non‑issue. Claudia’s chef and bartender were absolutely fantastic - delicious meals, great cocktails, and wonderful people. The beach is rocky, so bring water shoes, but we loved the rustic, natural feel of it. Taxis are difficult to get and quite expensive when you do, so plan accordingly. Also, all services must be paid upfront in cash, so bring pesos or USD. We’re already talking about making Villa Turquesa our annual group‑trip destination :)

Host Response

Sheetal, Thank you so much for choosing Villa Turquesa for your vacation, we were delighted to serve you and your beautiful family and friends. I am grateful for the great weather and meals you enjoyed from our Chef. Mi casa es ti casa!!

Claudia’s villa was the perfect place for our family of 11 (8 adults and 3 kids) to gather for a week long reunion. We enjoyed the pool, beach, kayaks, snorkeling equipment, puzzles, and toys for the kids. Spacious and clean, we had plenty of privacy. The cleaning staff came over to clean daily. We tipped the suggested $4 per person per day for the cleaning staff. We also had Maria the chef over 5 nights for dinner and we would recommend her services. Claudia also went above and beyond for us: A child in the group got sick and we were worried about needing access to a prescription medication we didn’t have with us. When I asked for Claudias recommendation, she was very responsive. She told us she has a doctor on call who can help with the Rx, and Claudia went to the pharmacy to get it for us! Our whole group left this vacation wanting to stay longer. We had a week of ultimate relaxation in paradise and can’t wait to come back!

Overall, we had a good stay at this property. It is beautifully situated right on the beach. Beach/Pool: The photos are accurate house, pool, and then steps to the beach. It was very quiet and private on the beach. We hardly saw any other visitors in our week there except the occasional volunteers working to protect the turtles. The turtles nest all along this beach and the beach between the property and Akumal. The water is beautiful and warm. As stated in other reviews, best to bring water shoes or old sneakers to wear, its a bit rocky, but the water was perfect for swimming in early October. The pool was cleaned each day and is a bit cooler than the sea water. In the bathroom just off of the kitchen there are several child and adult life vests and extra water shoes of all sizes. A few snorkels and fins too. It takes about 30? minutes to walk on the beach to Akumal. Beautiful walk. Safety: We felt very safe at this property. They have security 24/7 just outside the home and beach patrols as well. That said, we locked up each night and when we were all away. Cleaning/ staff: the cleaning staff and property manager were very helpful and attentive. The home is cleaned each day. they change sheets twice? during the week and will replace towels each day. They have beach as well as bathroom towels, soap, shampoo. Kitchen/food: We had Claudias staff stock the fridge before we arrived. The owner takes a 10% fee for anything purchased. We found most dinners for 6 adults and 3 children (4, 18 mo and 2 years) cost us about $200-250 USD per meal plus groceries. We did not purchase any alcohol, just soda and bottled water. There is a large water jug that is replaced each day in the kitchen. The chef we hired prepared anything we asked for. We had ceviche, mahi-mahi, beef kabobs, chicken, pork pibil and seafood skewers. Also served sides, salads and a couple desserts. The price includes preparation, service and clean up. We paid the cooks each day for dinner and had enough for lunch the next day as well. The portions were huge. We bought cereals, panicked mix, eggs, bread, butter, jam, etc for breakfast and everyone made their own breakfast each day. One warning. We ate at the home each day and only ended up eating out one day. The next day, half of our group came down with extreme food poisoning. We think it was from the restaurant in Akumal, where we ate pico with chips. Warning about eating anything that is not peeled! House: The home is roomy and great location. We booked both sides of the home, looking at the photos, it seems like it is reasonable to assume you are renting the entire property if renting the extra 3 rooms. Not so. The beachfront side of home on the left side of photos is where the owner lives. The room above her home is the largest master room. It is separate from the right side of house and is accessed from either an outside stairway or walkway on second floor outside (too difficult to explain here but the situation with locking doors is not ideal, especially if you have kids staying on opposite sides of the home) The a/c in the master room does not work. We requested twice to have it fixed, no luck. They filled it with freon once and then the second time when we told the cleaning people it was not working they said they'd let the property manager know, but it was not fixed. We moved into the smaller room next to the master and stayed there the rest of the week. Several of the screens are torn or in need of repair, so bugs can get in. We had a bad experience the first night we arrived with mosquitos. It got better as the week went on. There were lots of little ants in most of the rooms. Make sure to take bug spray. The property is quite secluded, and we did not rent a car. We did not have a problem getting acab to come take us into Tulum and Akumal. You can also walk 5 mins out to the main road and take a collectivo for about $2 into nearby towns. Overall, good stay. The property is in need of updating and a little on the pricey side for comparative properties we have stayed in the same area.

Overall we had a great stay. The Chef was awesome, the house keepers were responsive and everyone was very kind and as helpful as possible. The rooms were spacious and clean. There were more than enough beds for space and comfortability. The pool is clean and well kept and the view is beautiful. It was a very welcoming home with a beautifully authentic Mexican flare. Try to take out a reasonable amount of cash for tipping prior to your visit, as there are no options for electronic tipping at the house and very few atm’s in the area.

This house is much nicer than photographed. We had the best time staying here. Communication with Claudia and Beto (caretaker) was excellent. We opted for the chef service and the food was excellent. We worked out with him that he would buy the groceries so we didn’t have to do any running around. Best to rent a car or figure out transportation before arriving. We didn’t ever walk the beach to Akumal proper (just too busy enjoying the pool!), but I’m sure it’s doable. We decided to rent a car, and it is a 7 min drive into town. Location is wonderful - turtles, beach, cenotes and Tulum. 100% I would stay here again! Thank you for everything Claudia!
