Casa del Sol

Leah

Excellent, 1 month ago

My mom and I really enjoyed our stay at Casa del Sol. The view from the front porch is breathtaking! Silvio's family was wonderful and his son, Sebastian, was amazing at helping us make a reservation on the Sky Tram. The highlight for me was feeding the two horses, Jack and Tornado, each morning. I would highly recommend staying here.

The views were incredible! We enjoyed being away from it all in the cabin. The temperatures were unexpectedly chilly but it was a nice change. Bring a sweatshirt! We loved feeding and petting the horses! We enjoyed walking through the trails on the property and roasting marshmallows in the fire pit. A few things were a little wonky though. Only running the cook top and the water kettle kept blowing the breaker so we had to use one or the other. If someone was showering and another person flushed the toilet or turned on a sink faucet the pressure in the shower went way down and turned either really hot or really cold. The kitchen had minimal cookware. We are a family that likes to cook and didn’t want to have to leave the cabin for every meal so we had to get creative with only three pans and two burners. There weren’t any kitchen hand towels or wash cloths for showering. Everything else was great! The beds were really comfortable and so were the pillows! We would go back!

We loved being at Casa del Sol. Thank you so much for your attention! A dream place to unwind and relax! The peace that you feel in that place is unparalleled! Thank you very much, Mr. Silvio. We will certainly come back! 🙏🏻

This was our fourth time staying here, and we continue to love coming back! The property has beautiful views and feels wonderfully secluded, making it the perfect place to relax and unwind. It is always peaceful, clean, and comfortable. The family has also been wonderful hosts and always makes us feel welcome. We truly enjoy our stays here and look forward to returning again!

We had a wonderful stay here because the entire place felt magical. The pathway to the house was about an additional 5-minute drive in, but it was scenic and beautiful almost like driving through a magical forest and arriving at a hidden home at the end. One of our favorite parts was seeing the horses and cows right in front of the house. The horses greeted us every time we drove in, and even in the morning when we woke up. The white horse especially had such a personality and would make noises to let us know he was there, which we found so charming. Silvio and his family were incredibly welcoming and greeted us with homemade organic banana bread, which we enjoyed right away after arriving. The house itself was very clean, cozy, and made us feel safe during our stay. The WiFi was excellent. There was no air conditioning or fan, but this wasn’t an issue for us at all since the property gets cool at night. Overall, this was such a peaceful and unique experience.

If you're interested in a peaceful location with breathtaking views, look no further. About 15 minutes outside of Santa Elena, western facing porch makes for spectacular sunset viewing over the Gulf of Nicoya. The well maintained trails throughout the property are a pleasure to explore. Wildlife, birding, quiet contemplation, two friendly carrot loving horses. You don't need 4 wheel drive, but you absolutely need a higher clearance vehicle. Directions were clear. Google Maps isn't accurate, so follow the directions and you'll find it.

We (a family of 4 with a child and a baby) had a wonderful stay at Casa Del Sol! The house is lovely and very comfortable, and its location at the top of the The mountain is breathtaking! The large front terrace allowed us to enjoy the most beautiful scenery and the most beautiful sunsets! The trails on the property are well maintained and are a great option for enjoying the nearby Cloudforest. We saw several birds, agoutis, etc.! Silvio and his family were very kind and welcoming, and above all, very proactive and attentive! (e.g., they were happy to provide us with a crib, brought us a heater because the weather was particularly cold, etc.) We really appreciated it!! The Casa del Sol is definitely a place we would recommend to anyone looking to explore the area!

Amazing stay at Casa del Sol: breathtaking views and sunsets, absolute privacy, cozy and rustic cabin. We took advantage of the hiking trails, which start from the back of the house. Washer and dryer that were very useful after hiking in the cloud forest. Delicious banana bread upon arrival. All that's missing is heating... we froze the four nights until the mornings. Luckily Helmut provided us with extra warm blankets.

A beautiful and memorable stay. This cabin is perfect for nature lovers and offers incredible views. Waking up to two horses greeting us right in front of the cabin, with a rainbow in the background, was truly magical. We also loved seeing the many hummingbirds feeding on the flowers around the property. The location is very convenient, only a 10 minute drive from town, yet it feels completely secluded and peaceful. Since the cabin is truly off the beaten path, I would recommend checking in during the daytime to make the mountain drive easier. It can get chilly and windy at night, and the house does creak a bit, with some drafts that make it colder after dark. That being said, I would definitely stay here again.

What a location! The view from the terrace is fantastic. We spotted toucans every morning, as well as a toucanet, some motmots and other birds. The location is definitely the highlight of this place. The house has everything you need. That said, a few more dishes (like salad bowls) and some additional cutlery for cooking would be appreciated. But that wouldn’t stop me from coming back again. It can get a bit chilly at night, so be prepared for that.

We had a wonderful stay at Casa Del Sol. It has been the most beautiful Airbnb stay we have had. Sylvio family are a wonderful host and we had a very smooth check in. Jack and Tornado (horses in the farm) were super friendly. The home is pitched right on top of the mountain with serene valley and mountain views. Sylvio family were easily reachable in case of any questions. We feel so relaxed after our stay in Casa Del Sol. Highly recommend this place.

The views from the front porch are some of the best you will see anywhere, especially at sunset! Also, the welcoming committee (Jack and Tornado, the resident horses) was very friendly. They enjoyed the snacks we provided them. The house was exactly as described and was very clean and had everything we needed. Getting to the house is a little bit of a challenge, but so worth it once you arrive. The house is very secluded and quiet...and did I mention the views?! We would definitely recommend staying at Silvio's Family's home!

We stayed there for a total of 5 nights (we decided to extend right after the first night). The location is incredible! There is hardly a better view in all of Monteverde! You can see to the sea and the sunsets are breathtaking. The accommodation has everything you need and the beds are very cozy. During the day, hummingbirds and butterflies buzz around the porch all day - it is indescribable. And the two horses are always happy as soon as you get to the fence. This place is highly recommended. Silvio and his family are also super nice people. Thank you again for everything!

The best place in Monteverde!!! I have rented this house many times and the amazing feeling is always the same!!! Great spot to be.

I’ve stayed in Airbnbs for ~5-6 years all over the world. Silvio’s place stands out as one of the most beautiful and unique locations. It is pretty far away from everything but still just a 15 min drive into Santa Elena. I was glad I had an suv. a car probably could make it but you’d need to be careful. Jack and Tornado (the horses) kept me company because you won’t see anyone else up there. There are hiking trails very close by. It’s very high in the mountains with a view clear to the ocean (on a clear day). Often the clouds come in and cover everything. Lots of parrots, hummingbirds and butterflies around the house. I had a great time and would highly recommend.

Our stay at Silvio’s place was one to remember. The view is spectacular, the house is the great, & the front deck offers some of the best views to be had in the area. There’s a horse who lives right in front, who was super friendly. This was a special bonus, that brought joy to all of us. Getting to the house (from the road to parking) was a bit tougher than we anticipated (in the dark the first time) but Silvo’s instructions were clear and he was right there to answer our questions. I’m sure some may find it challenging. (Dark / bumpy / side of a cliff , ya know what makes Costa Rica so special) but totally fine for us with awd. Few things to note - It’s cooler at this place bc of the altitude , no AC Was no problem! There’s some bugs around but that’s to be expected , nothing crazy at all , just know youll see a few And whatever Google Maps says, add 5 minutes to that. It’s about 17-20 minutes to the start of Monte Verde, which isn’t a bad drive. Do zip line:)

This place is really amazing, and the perfect place to relax in nature. Every day I would walk on the property with my dogs and would also say hello to the resident horse Jack. The sunsets are magical here on the front covered porch. The bed was comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. It was a nice touch to have coffee and coffee filters available! And also the banana bread they left was amazing. I did go buy more of it from Ingrid who makes it out of her home. I had a minor issue with the wifi when I first checked in, Silvio and his son helped to resolve it (just need a different password). And they also came to the house when I struggled to close a window and needed help with the safe. Such a friendly family and the best part was they connected me with a local birdwatching guide for a private tour at a great price. Highly recommend Adrian’s tour. I will definitely be back to stay !

If you are like me, always looking for views and sunsets don’t think twice! This comfortable little mountain home has by far the best views we have found so far in Monteverde. We usually head out at sunset time looking for a good spot but this stay we spent every evening watching the spectacular and ever changing panorama from our own front porch. Super comfortable beds and well equipped kitchen. Would like to add Waze will get you to the lower gate (search Casa del sol, Unnamed road). Just continue on the unpaved road and you will get there! Village is called Altos de Cebadilla.

This place is magic and unique. 100% recommended!!! Admire the sunrise and especially the sunset is priceless from the terrace. The surroundings are simple amazing. You should go!!!

That view! It’s a bumpy road getting there but worth it! Our family of four enjoyed our stay. It was so incredibly relaxing. The sunsets and the two horses really made it for us. You can relax on the front porch, have a bonfire, walk the trails, make a nice meal. A few tips - the final 4 mins up to the house are rocky. You won’t need a 4x4 in the dry season but the rocks are large so a high clearance vehicle will help. It’s 15-20 mins to get into town for a meal (and bumpy) so we brought groceries with us for the first night. Even a bag of carrots for Tornado and Jack. Also, Google maps navigated to the house really well. Silvio helped arrange a night tour with Michael Monteverde Wildlife Reserve. That was really amazing! Thanks for the awesome home, we loved it!

I stayed for 3 nights and had the absolute best time. Highly recommend a 4x4 to get here, the property is off the beaten path. super private location, good hiking right out the backdoor. Easy access to town in 15 minutes. Super clean home, minimal bugs (early march) and the property has 2 friendly horses that you can feed carrots to. I had a life changing time here and I really hope I can return one day. Silvio left fresh baked banana bread that was amazing, and super easy to communicate with. the house had everything I needed. I came here on a solo trip and felt totally safe and all the locals were super friendly. Highly highly recommend.

I could not say enough good things about Silvio's beautiful, beautiful home. Nestled away far from the bustle of Monteverde and the never-ending tourist attractions Costa Rica offers, Silvio's home is a quiet, peaceful respite. The long, bumpy driveway is a scenic experience in itself, and we spotted almost as much wildlife from our driveway or in the trees around the home as we did on some nature hikes! Photos of both the home and the incredible view honestly don't do this place justice. As other reviewers have mentioned, a 4x4 is definitely necessary to access this place, but well worth it. Amenities were perfect- hot water, reliable WiFi, extra blankets, and the banana bread at check in was also a lovely touch. We regrettably didn't have time to hike the trails surrounding the property, but we did get multiple check ins from the incredibly friendly horses. I could not recommend this property more. Thank you for a lovely stay!!

100% recommended. Amazing location, incredible view, beautiful house….This place is always magic and full of surprises. This time we see a tucán and many hummingbirds. The host is always responsive and the whole logistics to get there are simple and well organized.

Our stay was very warm and pleasant from start to finish. We had a problem with the location on WAZE, (we recommend using Google Maps instead) however, Silvio and his children came to us promptly and guided us to the house with an extremely kind and understanding attitude. The house is located on a very private property, with green fields all around it, beautiful views, contact with nature, with two extremely quiet horses that can be fed with carrots or apples. The quality and care of the house is evident, very comfortable beds, clean and equipped for the cold. The kitchen utensils are clean, complete and just right for any need. All amenities in excellent condition and availability as described. We were greeted with a delicious banana bread, we made a bonfire in their fire pit and both we and our Chihuahua enjoyed the stay.

This is our 5th or 6th time that visited this place and our level of satisfaction is always the same: 100%. The location, the house, the surroundings, the great host…this place is 100% recommended!!! Is a real jewel inside the heart of Monteverde!!!

An amazing house; cozy and comfortable. It has all the conveniences which is great especially given the remoteness. The view from the deck was incredible. The whole place felt like an escape from reality. A few highlights. There are horses on the property right outside; the kids loved feeding them carrots. Tons of hiking trails right behind the house. Total peace and quiet day or night. Host was super responsive: we had hot water issue which they fixed immediately; when we were out of firestarter and couldn’t get the fire pit going because the wood was a bit damp, they sent a bike taxi to bring the firestarter which saved our fire pit evening (the fire pit was amazing - I wish we did it every day, but it rained). Couple of things to keep in mind. There’s no AC or heating. We didn’t need either but obviously that’s weather dependent. And you definitely need the 4x4 not only to drive through the property but also to get to it. One of my favorite Airbnbs ever. Would love to stay again

This a totally one-of-a-kind place. It is one of our very favorite places anywhere, and we first visited it in April 2020 when we needed to get out of our house and stretch our legs during the pandemic. It has superb views, paths. If you're going to visit, you should know it is pretty isolated and up a one-way mountain hillside path. We would not drive it after dark, so we had all of our dinners at Casa del Sol, not in Santa Elena or Monteverde. It is a pretty cozy place with some quirky features - just gotta go with the flow. We love this place!

Our stay at Silvios was amazing!! The view was absolutely spectacular. Rain, shine it doesn't matter you cannot beat that view! Silvio greeted us with fresh local banana bread which was delicious and the cabin was spotless. Note that you are in the hills in a rainforest. We were not prepared for how cold and wet it was. This is not a complaint at all, we just were travelling with a 7 month old and weren't as prepared as we should have been. You definitely need 4x4 to access this cabin and expect to be bumped around but I promise it's worth it! Would absolutely recommend if you want to stay someplace different and off the beaten path!

I had an incredible stay at this charming house in Monteverde! The location is perfect, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding cloud forest. The house itself is beautifully designed. The rooms are spacious, clean, and well-appointed, with large windows that bring the outdoors in. The kitchen had everything we needed, and the living area was perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. The hosts were incredibly welcoming and gave great recommendations for local activities, from hiking trails to coffee tours. We especially loved the peaceful atmosphere and the sounds of nature all around. I highly recommend this house to anyone looking for a tranquil and memorable getaway in Monteverde!

The view is in reality even more beautiful and watching the sunset from the balcony was magical! In addition, the presence of a washing machine was very pleasant. I definitely recommend it!

Beautiful home to stay in. The views r spectacular. The home is clean. There is no AC in the home. During the day it does get hot, but stays cool at night. There are portable fans in each bedroom. Was able to sleep comfortable at night. Silvio left us some banana bread upon our arrival. Check in was extremely easy. This home is also very private with going trials in the backyard. It is buggy. Fridge doesn’t get very cold. Would be lovely if screen were added to the window.

House is on top of a mountain, you can see down to the ocean. The view is expectacular. Plenty of birds fly by and rest around the home. There are 2 horses near the property who are also friendly. We fed them apples and carrot with Silvio's permission. Remoteness also means that the drive is fairly complex. The roads to the entrance are riddled with potholes and the private road to the house is also minimally kept. There arent pot holes on the private road so thats good. The house doesnt have AC. It has 2 vertical plug in fans. There are plenty of windows to open but none have screens, there are plenty of bugs around. The beds are comfortable, washer and dryer worked well. The refrigerator doesnt cool well. We ended up putting the stuff in the freezer but nothing froze. Even the ice cubes' water took about 24 hours to freeze. Sink leaks. Showerhead is possessed. Temp changes randomly. There are multiple trails around the property but we didnt use any of them. They are well marked.

It’s like a house you see in a story book. You drive thru this tunnel of beautiful trees, pass two rescue horses and arrive to this bright yellow home. The view is spectacular. I loved having my coffee every morning on the porch looking out. One of the horses would always be there waiting for us to give him a treat. Having a washer and dryer is great, the kitchen has all you need. We enjoyed every minute here. Don’t forget a sweater it can get chilly.

Silvio place is great. it's our 2nd time here and we will come back for a 3rd. His place is clean and very private. it has beautiful views and sunsets. His clean and he is very helpful if you need anything.

We made a last minute change to stay at Silvio's place in Monteverde and were so happy we did. There is not a better place to experience the cloud forest than Silvio's place. The views are absolutely breathtaking from the spacious front deck. There are well marked hiking trails directly out the back door that we made sure to explore. The house itself had the amenities needed for us to have an enjoyable stay. The drive up to the cabin is definitely not for the light hearted but in comparison to the other roads around Monteverde it was not a problem for us. Everything we needed to access was about 15 minutes away. Silvio communicated with us quickly and helped us with setting up a night tour. Silvio's place will definitely be one of our best highlights to Costa Rica.

This place is perfect if you want to be in a quiet and private place, but close to all activities around Monteverde and Santa Elena. We had everything we needed and enjoyed the terrace with view on the valley. Silvio left a friendly note on the table when we arrived and bio bananas from their farm, highly appreciated. The cabin is on a large property and has nice private hikes which were easy to follow. Thank you Silvio and family for the nice stay, we enjoyed it a lot!

Silvo's place was beyond words to describe the stay. It had many many pros with a few notable cons. First and foremost, the view was breathtaking and probably one of the best views we have ever had from any place we have stayed at before. Also the property had so many fun activities- from walking the trails, bird watching, or feeding the horses (Tornado and Jack) we had plenty of fun to do before even leaving the property to enjoy all what Saint Helena and Monte Verde had to offer. Silvo was very responsive and friendly, even greeting us when we checked in. The cons were notable however- it is an older house and with no A/C you had to keep windows/doors open to keep the house at an acceptable temp. That's fine, except for there are no screens so all bugs (especially at night with the lights on) are welcome to come in as they please. There were some other cleanliness issues also. Overall really enjoyed our stay and would certainly recommend.

Amazing place. It's up a gravel road, and you're all Alpine at the top. Our girls loved it, and we had had laces with pools so you know it's good then. Very quaint cabin, making you feel right at home, but with all modern necessities. bathroom looked very nice. The view is amazing, also, it cools down at night which I think is heavenly. The horses stole the show, walking right up when we arrived, our youngest wanted to feed them all the time (bananas etc). All the Cloud Forest activities (recommend Extremo over Selvatura, Selvatura is really really mass production) at max 30 minutes, town at 10. Some hiking trails right out the back door. Hummingbirds around the house all through the day. And banana bread when you arrive! Very helpful host! Also building little fireplace where we roasted marshmallows! Experience it!

Amazing stay due to the view; you are paying for the view which was phenomenal. The house was a rustic cabin and amenities were just satisfactory with a very basic kitchen and limited utensils and appliances. Great hot shower though! Loved the interaction with the beautiful horses, Jack and Tornado. Also loved sitting on the patio getting ready to watch the sun set, watching the clouds move by at eye level and the hummingbirds fly in the bushes a metre away. Would highly recommend for a peaceful retreat. We extended our stay and would definitely return.

This place is just beautiful; an adventures dream! The house itself is nestled high up in the mountains with a magical winding road, taking you on an exciting journey through the forest full of wildlife on your way! The house is spacious, immaculately clean and offers the best view of Costa Rica and lake Arenal in the distance. The trails surrounding the house give you an exclusive look at the surrounding nature. We saw beautiful butterfly's, wild monkeys and other animals. On both evenings we enjoyed watching a spectacular sunset in the close company of humming birds and rescue horses, Jack and tornado. If you're thinking about booking Silvios place, just do it!

This is the 4th or 5th time that we have been in this place and the feeling is always the same: amazing. This house has a magic location. The house is perfect, all that you need for 4 people: family, friends or couple (s). The house is always clean, surrounded by nature in all directions and breathtaking view. Nothing else the say :)

Exceeded expectations! Even better than the photos. This cabin is private, all alone atop a hill. It has an incredible view, is fully equipped, clean, homey and is all we needed and more. Hope to be able to visit again someday! I would highly recommend this place. I would also recommend a 4x4, Some reviews mention the road up to the place. I was driving a loaded Nissan Sentra and had no major issues, yet the drive up would be pretty challenging for someone with a low rental or someone with little experience on rocky roads. It took some spinning and grinding to get up. That said this is NOT the hosts fault as the bad part is the last several hundred feet of public road leading up to their lane. Their long lane is well kept. The remoteness is part of what makes this place so special so keep that in mind too! BTW This is a wooden cabin near a woods in the tropics so their will be some bugs! That’s inevitable.

Casa del Sol is an amazing place to stay. The view was beautiful (especially at sunset!) and the surroundings were so peaceful. We got to feed the horses, watch hummingbirds, hike through the forest, and even enjoy the fire pit at dusk. Silvio and his sons are wonderful and very friendly hosts - they took good care of us and gave good recommendations on things to do around town. The bed was comfy, the hot water was hot, and the internet was surprisingly reliable given that we were on the side of a mountain (and I was able to hook up my own travel wifi router). There is no AC, but the temps were cool enough that we did fine without it. The washer and dryer were very handy and worked well. It's worth noting that the trip from the nearest road up to the house is a very rocky and bumpy ride at times - it's easy as long as you take the rocky parts slow and have a high-clearance vehicle like an SUV (that applies to many of the roads in and around the Monteverde area as well).

I can’t say enough about how incredible and special Silvio’s family’s place is. You can’t imagine what it’s like until you’re there. It’s pretty much in the middle of nowhere, but the directions were perfect and after the first time, we were very comfortable driving back and forth. The house is small but has everything you need and comfortable beds. The porch, is absolutely incredible! My husband and I, our dog and a friend stayed for 3 days and whatever we did during the day, we found ourselves wanting to come back and sit on that porch to look at the amazing view, incredible sunsets (which we made sure to see every day), and be thrilled by the abundance of hummingbirds, not to mention the wonderful horses right in front of us. If you want to cook it’s a little challenging as there is only a 2 burner stove and limited outlets. But as long as you plan ahead, it’s fine. It’s about 15 minutes from Santa Elena with great restaurants, markets and anything else you need. We hope to return.
