The house is very nice and comfortable, but it does lack maintenance, and the manager, Sandra, showed up without warning or asking permission.

This review does not tell the situation accurately. This guest requested directions by Waze, which cannot be specifically given that way. But, very specific directions were given to this guest directly and was gladly accepted, no problem. The other issues, while this guest mentioned they needed attention, did not apparently, reach out to the Manager to make any corrections while there. To mention them after leaving without the opportunity to provide any of those services is not fair to the Host to make the stay better than they claimed.

The house is very nice, comfortable and clean. However, our experience was not as peaceful as we expected, the neighbors of the property next door spent two whole days with loud music, especially in the early morning, and it was impossible to sleep. Although I spoke with the person who manages the house and she even contacted the people from the neighboring property, they only lowered the volume for a few hours and again in the early morning the music was turned up to full volume.

We have never experienced such a violation of the rules in the community by anyone staying next door before. I will need to contact the owner there to prevent this from happening again. This was very unusual and disrespectful of your time there.

A very nice house, comfortable space and very clean. Some details to improve: there was a bathroom where the toilet flushed water, another where there was no hot water, the refrigerator did not make ice and the pool had bits of ceramic that came off...

Mitchell was an exceptional, highly attentive, and helpful host. The residence was both beautiful and serene. We had the pleasure of observing monkeys and magnificent large iguanas, which truly enhanced the homely atmosphere in Costa Rica. The cleaning team was incredibly supportive and very responsive to our requirements. Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone planning a visit to Costa Rica. It offers a beautiful home, a stunning location, and a gorgeous pool.

Perfect place to get away from it all! Perfectly placed between Jaco and Manuel Antonio. The Town Centre plaza has everything you need just down the hill.

There will be effort to prevent this from happening again so that you can have complete enjoyment and comfort. Yes, it is a bit warmer than Canada!

Villa Contenta was everything we hoped for and more. Despite being a large group, we were quickly and comfortably fitted in the property, specially since every room has their own bathroom and AC. Being located just behind Esterilllos Town Center, it was easy to do quick errands to the pharmacy, supermarket or even restaurants. Moreover, you are near nice beaches, mainly Esterillos East, Esterillos West and Bejuco. A bit further away is Punta Mala. The kitchen or dining area is large and with AC as well, and equipped with everything you need; blender, oven, microwave, coffeemaker, knives, dishes, glasses, cutlery - you name it. A real no brainer for large groups - strongly recommend it.

Lucia...there was a mis-connect here that will be rectified. Normally, your number would be given to Sandra, who would call you and arrange for everything. Including the guard knowing and providing you with the key. Soap bars are supposed to be provided in every bathroom, so that will be checked. Thank you for staying and come back soon!

Check-in was planned at 3:00 pm. It was time and no one communicated with me to know where the stay was. We had to start asking people in the area help to get there. Sandra checked in with us until 3:30 pm. The next day, we didn't have water. It is important to take into consideration the person in charge of the house in CR, because the communication was really bad. The place is beautiful. The comfortable rooms. There are lots of iguanas feces around the pool area, it's the only thing cleaning that's hard to control. At the same time the pool was really dirty. The water is unclear. A nice place, but lacks maintenance in the pool.

There was an issue initially when we booked , airbnb does not allow booking until Amount is canceled under that dynamic. We paid and the billing and confirmation was successfully sent to us. However, the host insisted that the payment could not be received. In the end, the situation was communicated to the Airbnb station and they communicated with the host to fix it. Following this, we arrived on the day of booking to check in and found out that the house was already washed by other means. We lost the time of 8 people , two days after the refund is not made .

The house is beautiful and very well kept. The house is located in a very safe community, close to great cafes, restaurants and beautiful beaches but away from dams and noise. The security people who work in the community are attentive and helpful. Sandra, who works with Don Mitchell, is a caring and helpful person. I would definitely like to rent this beautiful property again.

It actually pains me to write this as it's the only negative review I've ever written. We even tried reaching out to the host to resolve this between ourselves but our attempts were ignored. We chose this place primarily because of certain views that were described in listing photos and in conversations with the host; however, the only "view" is of overgrown trees. There is no view of the Pacific in the distance as the pictures indicate. You need to leave the property to see it. When we expressed our disappointment, he disregarded it. We also lost a lot of money because we put a lot of food into the fridge when we arrived and realized the next morning it wasn't working. It took hours to get the ice but eventually they fixed it. We also had to ask for a cleaning when we arrived as we couldn't unpack due to dust and dirt in many places including the closet. The listing said the daily fee includes cleaning. However, that was the only time they cleaned there. We tried getting a refund for the rest of our stay so we could move to a place with a view like we were told this one had but the host denied our request. He then told airbnb that had we really been unhappy, we would've moved to another place, but we couldn't do that if we didn't get refunded for this one. We are also really clean people and really care for homes we stay at. Hosts always gave us 5 star reviews - but to counter our refund request, he made bogus claims that we left the place a huge mess - which was untrue. This was our third time in Costa Rica. (We previously booked on my husband's account - Hershel Lowy) We've always had amazing experiences and exceptional hosts - until now... We have a lot more to say but believe this is sufficient to advise visitors to consider carefully prior to booking.

Overall the house is very nice and has a great location. But we didn’t have any internet connection during our stay so it was a problem as some of us had to connect to work. Also there was one room that didn’t had any air conditioning the whole week. And 2 bedrooms had a mildew odor. I would suggest to have a better maintenance of the house before rebooking. Also plastic dishware would be recommended for the swimming pool area. And the cleaning of the house can be improved too, needs more people making a deep cleaning between guests.

I was able to get to you the correct address to access wifi, but did not hear back as to if you had a further problem. That is the wifi that has been used for years there, so I do not understand what the problem might have been, if you did not reach back out to me for assistance.

We had a great time at the house! I read on another review that pictures don't do justice to the house and it's totally true! Very private and spacious! Both Mitchell and Sandra were helpful and responsive to my questions. My only observation is that we had to call for a replacement of the propane tank for the grill and had the same issue with the stove late that same night while getting ready to prepare dinner. The one for the grill was quickly replaced, the one for the stove we were told it was going to be replaced early morning and it wasn't but since we were leaving that same day it wasn't a huge deal. Overall we recommend the house and would go back for sure!

Great location! The hospitality from Mitchel and Sandra (the local contact) is outstanding. The measures taken post covid are safe enough to go and stay there. Hot water, clean swimming pool, comfortable rooms etc! Many reasons for what i recommend this place. This was my 8th time visiting :)

The place is very nice and spacious. Everything is very comfortable, social area, rooms and bathrooms. There was an issue with the air conditioning in one of the rooms and it was not fixed immediately unfortunately, however the administrator followed her very closely and offered alternative solutions. Overall, highly recommended

it was a beautiful large house very open and airy. But internet was very slow, not available in rooms. Be cautious if you need hot water in shower it would be available for a min. then suddenly in middle of shower it would turn cold. the house was far away from all the fun places. Jacuzzi was lukewarm. Jets were not working properly. Only couple were working.

Unfortunately this stay could have been great, however, we felt this host lacked a key component: hospitability. Mitchell and his property manager, Sandra, had a conflictive attitude towards our group since accepting our booking. The house was nice, but lacked proper maintenance, and we were surprised to find many of the same issues previous reviews mentioned, had not been fixed upon our arrival: water leak below sink, gas stove making weird clicking sound even when it was off, shower with cold water only, a poorly equipped kitchen etc. Due to this, our stay was interrupted by 2 emergency visits from maintenance personnel, one of them for 8am-5pm, and we were stuck house sitting as we did not feel comfortable leaving our personal belongings unattended. Sandra wanted to send in some more maintenance personnel to fix more things but we thought this was quite unfair as this was setting our plans back and asked her to get thing fixed after we checked out. Mitchell told us to get in contact with property manager to arrange our cleaning and cooking. Please, if you still decide to stay here, make ALL arrangements through airbnb directly with host, and not with the property manager, as the host later claimed to not know any of the issues we had. And we had plenty! Mitchell tried charging us $360 for an a/c unit that was not working properly since we first turned it on. It began making a really loud noise and not cooling properly, then stopped working altogether. The property manager was aware of this but as they seem to not have good communication, this host concluded this was our fault. Thankfully airbnb communicated us we did not have to pay for his money request. Finally, we consider the security of this place is not what it should be. This is a gated community, but cars go in and out without the guards verifying id or license plate. This house is surrounded by abandoned houses since this is a project that seems to never have quite taken off. Many surrounding houses are gutted and overgrown with plants. The house has a security guard at nights but he comes in only every other night. We felt insecure at nights for sure, specially given the houses layout. Our family has been renting beach houses every year for over 10 years, and this has been truly our first bad experience. As costaricans, we know our country has many better options to offer and we would strongly NOT recommend staying here to anyone. .

As I had stated to Ana Laura previously, having them stay at the house was a mistake. Now I am certain that it was a big mistake. Ana Laura certainly viewed on the site that the house was equipped for up to eight people. She planned for thirteen people to stay at the house during that period, and complained that the house was not adequate. Simply stated, her group overwhelmed the house and its capability. The gas stove issue was simply an igniter switch that was going bad. This is not a quick fix, as the problem had to be determined and the parts ordered. The periodic "tick" had no effect on the use or safety of the stove. They just felt it was an annoying sound. There was always hot water in every bathroom. Only one bathroom needed to be instructed that the handle for the water was from hot to cold, and not cold to hot. The kitchen is equipped to provide for up to eight people without washing the dishes, not thirteen. The water complained about was due to the garbage disposal that went bad and leaked until it was replaced. What was found in the old disposal were all sorts of shells that should have been deposited in the trash can and not ground up. These actions simply damaged this unit and was fixed. With the use of the house by guests, there is bound to have some of the equipment have maintenance issues. It is a fact of having the house used this way. Regarding the six A/C systems throughout the house, it was the one room that she stayed in that the system was turned down so low and ran constantly until the lines froze. If they had allowed the maintenance to defrost the system it would have operated. But, Ana Laura decided that she did not want any of the maintenance people working on the system while she stayed there. This is quite confusing, as in any hotel, the room service and/or maintenance personnel would have full access to the rooms to clean them or make repairs. Why is it here that she did not choose to have the A/C system repaired immediately? The abuse of the system did damage the blower motor, which had to be replaced. What she does not say in her review is that she went outside of Airbnb and made arrangements directly with the Manager for cooking services. When that did not work out the way she demanded, then the complaint was made that she could not work with this Manager, and wished to work directly with the Host. I have been a Host member with Airbnb since 2013, and for the most part, have had an excellent relationship with the guests. I will not stand by and have my history, the house mistreated, my personnel complained about and false comments made about the situation when it did not work completely to her satisfaction. Security has always been more than sufficient within the neighborhood, as well as at the my house and the nearby houses. Over the last ten years that I have been at this house, I have always felt completely safe, as well as every other guest. As for the guards checking for ID, there is no need for the guard to check the ID of full time residents that they know and allow access. Did she park and watch what was going on at the main gate? What did that gain? Not knowing who lives there full time, or those that come for extended stays, she would have no idea. The false statements made with this review of feeling insecure is a simple, easy and cheap way to get back at and attempt to harm this Host's reputation and this house that has successfully been used by hundreds of other guests within Airbnb. I do not plan to continue a back and forth, but to take this experience with this guest and learn from it, and make sure that the guests communicate directly to the Host through Airbnb as well, and not make separate arrangements. I think it is time to move past this stay and enjoy the house, as I have for the past ten years and for the four days I just recently spent there.

Its a really lovely place to spend time with friends and family, with enough space for everyone. However, we had ongoing issues with no hot water, the gas stove (when we arrived it was unplugged and the gas was turned off.... you'll find it in the cupboard below) which kept clicking so we had to keep it unplugged, the wifi was awful, and then on the last day there was a water leak on the kitchen floor. But Mitchell and Sandra swung into action and got maintenance people to come and fix the hot water - in the end, only 1 master bedroom was without.

Wonderful place. Rooms are amazing: private, high ceilings, perfectly workin A/C, awesome beds and huge bathrooms. Each room has its own full bathroom, wich gives a lot of privacy. The common area allows interactions and has a lot of space, too. Amazing pool. The location is exceptional. Even if it´s not beachfront, the beach is not that far andinstead you get a very private place, with lots of space and great view.

I will have to ask Sandra what is left and replace them. They were thought of. Sorry none were there for your use. CR is amazing, the property is awesome, and Michell is a fantastic host! We had an absolute blast and would absolutely stay here again. Villa Contenta is a beautiful house, with a great view of the ocean from the pool and courtyard. The common area and rooms are spacious and well-appointed. Bathrooms are large and each room has a midsize walk-in closet. The ceilings are unbelievably high which makes it feel really grand. From a design perspective, it did feel a little strange that the bedrooms have separate entrances onto the courtyard, instead of opening into a common area inside the house. But on the flip side, you step out of your room in the morning to see the pool and a view of the Pacific, which ain't a bad way to greet the day! Getting there is pretty easy, even though they don't rely on street addresses very much. The entrance to the Del Pacifico neighborhood is in the middle of a big shopping center that sits on the north side of Highway 34 . When you're driving from San Jose, it will be on your left, just a few hundred yards past the sign for Esterillos Este (which is down a gravel road to the right, toward the ocean). There's a grocery store and a collection of restaurants in that shopping center - pretty convenient, maybe a 10-minute stroll from the house. There's also a Maxi Palí supermarket (kind of like a small Costco - you can get anything there) about 15 minutes farther up Hwy 34 toward Manuel Antonio if you want to stock up on provisions. The house sits near the top of the hill. The neighborhood itself appears to have been developed for investment properties, but apparently never took off... so all the houses save this one and its immediate neighbor are empty shells, gutted and overgrown. It might look a touch spooky at first, but there's always a guard or two at the gatehouse, and another guard patrols the area immediately around the house at night. The road up the hill was never paved and is quite stony and rutted. You definitely want to drive slow and keep your eyes peeled to avoid bottoming out. But you won't need an SUV or 4x4 - we had a Kia Rio and navigated it just fine. We ended up measuring the distance to the ocean by how long it took us to reach the Hotel Pelicano (just under 2 miles, down that road to Esterillos Este I mentioned earlier). Definitely recommend going there and enjoying the vibe, the beach and the amazing piña coladas. Mikey, Mark and Diana will take great care of you. I would have to say that I did not receive any text messages about checking into the house. It was my understanding that Maria and guests arrived at almost 10:00 pm. There was no contact as to when they would arrive so that someone could be there to meet them and answer questions. Also, there was no inquiry as to directions. It was my understanding that she was completely familiar with the area. Lastly, the odor came from the house next door, and has nothing to do with my home. Thank you. Mitchell

Valentina: You noted a few comments. Where did you feel that there was excessive dust? Which rooms? Also, what was the issue with the kitchen sink? The hot water...the master shower handle works backwards...the hot is when it is just turned on, not all the way up. Was the hot water an issue throughout? If there is a power failure in the house, there is no electric to heat the water. Some details would help in addressing these concerns. Thank you. Mitchell

I would hope that the next time, if there were any questions about directions, that there would be a comment submitted through Airbnb and the email process. It was assumed that there was familiarity with the area since no question was raised. But, Victor knows how to get there now!!

This place is one of a kind. So much attention to detail along with a beautiful central area to hang out. It's a decent walk to the beach, but not bad if you have a car. We'll definitely stay again when we're back in the area.

Every bit as beautiful as it looks in the photos. Mitchell is wonderful to work with; quick to respond and genuinely attentive to questions and needs. Like others have said, the layout is really nice especially when traveling with a group. We were a group of mothers and daughters on a service trip/retreat and it was very nice to have separate rooms and bathrooms with the kitchen and great room as common areas. It would be ideal for 4 couples or a large family. We rented the house next door as well and enjoyed having two separate houses literally just steps away! We enjoyed large group times around the pool and in the great room. Walk to the beach is not too far, but in the hot sun, be sure to take water. Grocery store right at the gate is pretty well stocked but a little higher priced than supermarkets in Parrita 15 km away. We ordered pizza from a shop in the Del Pacifico shops for the first night; it was only about $20/pizza and they delivered. There are not a lot of things to do right in Esterillos Este, but if you are looking for excursions, you can find plenty to do; lots of options and Manuel Antonio is only about 45 min away. Overall, I would highly recommend this house ... it is clean, beautiful, fresh neutral color decor, comfortable and inviting. We sure hope to come back someday!!!

We came here for a family vacation with grown kids. it was great that everyone had their own bedroom and bathroom. We fit 7 people quite comfortably, plenty of room at the dining room table and in the living room. The house is quite elegant and spacious. Its a quick walk or drive to the beach, don't miss the beautiful sunsets and sunrises. The private pool is also very nice and refreshing. We loved the wildlife in the yard; lizards and many beautiful birds. Would definitely return, thanks Mitchell!
