The Banana Veranda House is situated in the vibrant center of Drake Bay, a popular spot for gatherings hosted by the homeowner and her friends. This private home offers a peaceful retreat while being conveniently close to everything Drake Bay has to offer, including restaurants, grocery stores, tours, the beach, and hiking trails.

Guests can easily walk a few steps to reach boats, bars, and eateries. The house features a large patio with sweeping views of the entire bay, perfect for relaxing in rocking chairs while watching the tide ebb and flow. Observing clouds and distant weather patterns is a favorite pastime here. During the season, whales can often be seen breaching from the patio as you enjoy your morning coffee or evening cocktail.

You can pick fresh fruit from the property's trees or take a stroll down the path to the beach and ocean. The house reflects the authentic, traditional, and intentionally Costa Rican spirit of Drake Bay. The main living area is outdoors, encouraging guests to spend time in the natural paradise. Inside, the home is constructed with traditional materials, featuring hardwood floors and walls throughout.

The open-plan living room and kitchen are designed to keep the cook engaged with guests, highlighted by a hatch with a view that fosters conversation and connection. This space is ideal for gathering, reconnecting, and enjoying company.

The Banana Veranda House is also well-suited for retreats or reunions. By combining this property with two others nearby, accommodations can be arranged for up to 14 people.

Location and Access

Jose, the local host, will assist you in preparing for your visit and can book tours on your behalf. He is attentive and ready to help with any needs during your stay.

If arriving by boat from Sierpe, arrangements can be made to meet you at the beach. Alternatively, you can fly into the nearby Drake Airport via Sansa Airlines and take a short, scenic taxi ride to the house.

Driving to Drake Bay is an adventurous experience through the jungle. A 4x4 vehicle is necessary, and the last gas station is located in Chacarita, where you turn off the Interamerican Highway. Secure off-street parking is available at the property, and the host is always nearby for assistance or emergencies.

Community and Amenities

Drake Bay is a small village without Starbucks, traffic, or stress. The local coffee is excellent. The area is connected to the national power grid, and electricity is generally reliable, though occasional outages can occur. If you use medical devices such as a CPAP machine, it is advisable to bring a backup battery, which is recommended for travel anywhere in Central America.

There are no banks or ATMs in Drake Bay, so plan accordingly. Within walking distance, you will find over a dozen small restaurants and two small supermarkets offering typical Costa Rican dishes, seafood, pizza, chicken, and more. You can walk or take a 4x4 taxi if needed.
