Overview
Casa Van Wilpe is one of the oldest homes built on the remote beach of Nosara. It was designed by the renowned Costa Rican architect and engineer couple, Julia and Derk Van Wilpe, who also planned the layout of Playa Guiones. Constructed using locally sourced materials, the house exemplifies a philosophy that honors nature and the environment.
Location
The property is situated in the heart of Guiones, just a five-minute walk from the northern entrance to Guiones Beach. It is conveniently close to restaurants, a mini supermarket, yoga classes, and surfing spots.
The Space
Guests have exclusive access to the entire upstairs area, which features a private gated entrance. The space includes:
- Two bedrooms, each with an ensuite full bathroom
- A living room
- An open kitchen
- Spacious patios located at both the front and back of the bedrooms
Guest Access and Amenities
- Outdoor shower available for rinsing off sand after returning from the beach
- Access to the garden area shaded by tall trees
- Seasonal mangoes available around March for guests to pick and enjoy
Additional Information
Please note that the house does not offer all the modern comforts typical in more developed countries. Power and water outages may occur occasionally but are usually resolved quickly. The septic system does not accommodate toilet paper. To avoid attracting ants and bugs, food should not be left uncovered.
Since the town has been growing following the pandemic, there is increased construction, traffic, and some petty crime. Guests are advised to stay alert, act wisely, and respect the local culture.

We enjoyed our stay and the place is very unique, with original details. A special highlight was sweet Cosi, puppy, who lived downstairs ❤️ To note: - This is shown in the listing, but it's important to know that all rooms are separate and accessed from the balcony/ deck area. - The AC worked well in each individual room. - The common area is the big dining table and small kitchen or the outside couch area shown (make sure you have mosquito repellent 🦟!) - Good spot for location and access to the beach. - Limited cooking options, a cooktop, no oven.

Couldn’t be a better location. Loved staying in this original home and spending time on the deck outside. Would definitely stay here again! Great communication with Andres.

Great location, walking distance to the beach, makets, restaurants. comfortable bedrooms both with good bathrooms. I only wish the kitchen was a little bit more equipped. I recommend this place

Casa Van Wilpe is a great classic surf house! Great location in the middle of town across from Frog Pad for surf board rentals and easy walk to beach. Three rooms with AC (2 bedrooms and one kitchen/ dining space) with large glass sliding doors. Connected by covered porch at front and rear with seating and hammocks. The porch is the communal hang out space. Kitchen is a bit bare bones and no hot water. Hot water in showers. Easy walk for coffee, smoothies, etc. Highly recommend Posada Margarita! Andres was a great host and quick to respond when messaged for a few things. Recommend the house for people coming to surf, chill, and want easy walking options!

This house could not be in a better location. Walking distance to the beach, restaurants, mini mart and yoga. Andre is very easy to communicate with and very accommodating.

Casa Van Wilpe was a very cozy stay. It was very clean and the grounds are well maintained. If we needed anything, our host was accommodating. Casa Van Wilpe is close to restaurants, stores and a 5 minute walk to the beach. At night, it is very peaceful. We would most definitely stay there again.
