Beautiful property if you want a connected to nature expetience. Our family spotted 2 sloths, 3 agouti, 1 iguana, 1 chameleon, several geckos on the first day. It is the jungle, so highly recommend to plan accordingly and use the mosquito nets to sleep at night especially if you're traveling with children. Jeff was a great host who was attentive, responsive and gave wonderful recommendations. He was an all around a great person to connect with and made sure we were comfortable.

The outdoor area of the Sloth House is really lovely with plenty of places to relax with friends and family. While there is a kitchen area in both houses and outdoors, I found it a bit difficult to cook during our stay. The one working burner in the main house needs some maintenance. The kitchen sink is a bit small and difficult to use for cleaning dishes. I found the walk between the two houses to be longer than expected. My teenagers stayed in one house while I stayed in the other, but they found it a bit scary to make the walk through the forested area in the dark. We enjoyed the noises of the forest, but there was also a lot of noise from barking dogs. Finally, we had a problem with bugs. I believe that the bed in the main house is infested with bed bugs or fleas. Jeff was very responsive in checking out the problem and putting the linens through the drier after I notified him; however, that didn't fix the problem, and we got bit again the second night.

The Sloth House is a beautiful experience. The surroundings are stunning. The lookout was incredible and we indeed saw monkeys and a sloth and many cool insects. Jeff is a gracious host- he was very responsive from the start and when we needed water during a power outage, he supplied it promptly. He is a passionate caretaker of the land and shared yummy fruits with us, too. The pool was very much enjoyed by the teens in our group, as was the beautiful outdoor fire. The house is a 10min walk to the beach. I would say that the home itself needs some updating. The bathroom faucet in the main house was a trickle, and same for the bottom bathroom sink of the guest cottage. The outdoor shower in the main house was lovely. The only cons for me was at night there are many, many bugs (a small infestation of bugs was found on clothes that I left on a chair) and gecko poop covered a few surfaces. If this does not bother you, you'll love it!

Our family had an amazing experience staying at the Sloth Houses! Beautiful homes with every detail thought out. Tons of wildlife and plants. Relaxing and private property. Close to everything but felt like you were in your own world. Tons of wildlife (sloth, spider monkey, iguanas, birds, butterflies, etc)! Jeff was an amazing host who educated us on the vast types of trees and plants on the property and even helped us spot a sloth while checking in. He was very helpful with any questions or needs we had. The pool was beautiful and very clean. Unique property and one of a kind experience! Short walk to the beautiful black sand beach of Playa Negra. We couldn’t have asked for anything more from our host or the property. Would definitely stay there again!

There aren’t enough words to say how great this place was and what a wonderful time in puerto viejo… a sloth visited us on the first day and stayed until the last day. The gardens are beautiful and the houses were a work of art.. thanks again

If you love nature and adventure, this is the right place for you. It’s very close to the beach (5 mins walk) and very close to the local town with all the bars/restaurants/shops (10 mins walk). It is a very safe neighborhood and there is lots to do nearby. The house itself has lots to offer. It looks/feels like a giant treehouse. There is an observation deck that was our favorite morning spot. In early mornings, you can spot sloths in nearby trees. You’ll also see capybaras playing around the backyard. The outside kitchen was such a fun feature of this place. We loved grilling outside and jumping in the hot tub right after dinner. Lastly, the pool was another incredible addition to the experience. Because the house walls are thin, we loved hearing all sorts of wild noises during the night (e.g., howler monkeys). It was pretty incredible to fall asleep to diverse nature sounds. Overall – a great adventure and a holistic experience. I would certainly come back!

Staying at a place like Jeff’s in Puerto Viejo Talamanca is a once in a lifetime experience, and that should not be missed. The surroundings are exquisitely beautiful with sounds of the birds always in the background. Jeff has done an amazing job, cultivating the property and crafting the homes to enhance a very special experience. My husband, five year old daughter, and I rented both the sloth one and sloth two houses. It was nice to have the extra space and complete privacy. The partly outdoor bathroom and shower were amazing! We enjoyed the small pool and hot tub (both were very clean). Perhaps the best part was the spiral staircase leading up to the lookout tower which was finished with extremely comfortable suede seating, complete with pillows, blankets and binoculars, to view the wildlife. We saw monkeys in the distance, a couple sloth, and agoutis. what a magical, place to drink a cup of coffee or a glass of wine (both of which Jeff provides along with chocolates). Que rico!
