Casa Pocahontas is a 2BR jungle retreat with a private skate bowl, just a 10-minute walk from Playa Maderas beach in Nicaragua. Enjoy breezy terraces, hammocks, and Starlink internet.
The Space
Casa Pocahontas is a charming retreat nestled in the heart of the jungle, just a 10-minute walk from Playa Maderas, one of Nicaragua’s top surfing beaches. The property features a private skate bowl right in front of the house, perfect for practicing your skills or relaxing.
The house includes two inviting bedrooms. One bedroom has a king-size bed, while the other offers two single beds that can be combined into a double bed if desired. Both rooms open onto a lovely terrace with views of the lush garden. Adjacent to the terrace is a large net hammock (2 by 6 meters) equipped with comfortable pillows, ideal for unwinding in the jungle atmosphere.
The bedrooms are located on the ground floor to keep the rooms cool despite the warm Nicaraguan climate. Upstairs, you will find a fully equipped open kitchen with a top-hung window that can be opened to create a cozy bar area. The first floor also features a spacious dining table, an outdoor couch, numerous hammocks, rocking chairs, and a large covered balcony that can be enjoyed regardless of the weather.
The house does not have glass windows; instead, fixed mosquito nets cover the windows and sliding doors. This design ensures a refreshing breeze throughout the home while providing an authentic jungle experience without the nuisance of insects.
For digital nomads, Casa Pocahontas offers Starlink internet, making it an excellent place to work or stream movies after a day of adventure.
Surfing
If you love surfing, Nicaragua is an ideal destination. The San Juan area benefits from offshore winds nearly 360 days a year, thanks to a large lake in the northeast. This results in consistent swells, warm water, and a tropical setting.
From Casa Pocahontas, simply grab your surfboard (rentals and lessons are available) and walk about five minutes to Playa Maderas. This beach is one of Nicaragua’s best surf spots, suitable for both beginners and experienced surfers.
Skateboarding
If surfing isn’t your thing, Casa Pocahontas offers a private skate bowl and pump track right outside the house. You can practice your skills all day using the provided surf skateboards.
Surf skating is a type of skateboarding designed to mimic surfing movements on land. The special front truck allows for fluid, surf-like turns, making it a fun way to improve your surfing technique or enjoy cruising around.
Getting Around
Casa Pocahontas is somewhat remote, so renting a vehicle is recommended to explore nearby beaches and the town of San Juan. A beautiful Toyota Land Cruiser 100 is available for rent. Contact the hosts for special deals and packages.
Guest Access and Community
The house is a peaceful jungle hideaway close to Playa Maderas beach. If you want a change of scene, Hostel Clandestino is just 50 meters away, where you can enjoy a beer and socialize. The hosts regularly organize pizza nights, barbecues, and other events in collaboration with the hostel, offering opportunities to connect with other guests.

We had a pleasant stay at this accommodation. At first, the open-layout design took some getting used to, but after a short time we felt very comfortable and appreciated the unique style. Overall, it was a great experience. Thx

We had an amazing time at this jungle abode. The house itself was perfect for us and its outdoor living concept was great. We enjoyed surfing almost every day for the month we were there with our family of 4. The trek to and from Playa Maderas definately has a good hill, but still very walkable and easy to navigate now that the construction is complete. We loved the land cruiser that we also rented from Sebastian directly. Due to the hill and uneven terrain closer to the house the high clearance was a must and even in the the dry season the 4WD was helpful on the sand. It was amazing to be able to easily check out and surf at many of the beaches in the surrounding area with the new highway in place. Thank you so much Sebastian and care taker Phillip for all your helpful advice and kindness. We loved the place and our overall experience in Nicaragua was fabulous.

Loved our stay in Playa Maderas. Beautiful, clean home, 5 min walk from the beach. Great communication from our host. Would definitely stay here again!

Very nice house. It’s on quite a steep hill, so carrying all your belongings can be quite tough. They’re working on the road, so unfortunately you can hear that. But otherwise it’s a nice location and there was good, fast communication with Sebastiaan.

Had a great stay at Pocahontas! It’s only a short walk to the beach but still super private and quiet, which made it perfect for relaxing. Philipp and Sebastian were super helpful and easy to communicate with. Would definitely stay here again!

We’re a canadian family with two adult children who stay 2 weeks at Casa Pocahontas. It was exactly what we had hoped for. A private jungle get away! We loved listening to the birds & monkeys & the surfing was perfect for our daughter & partner. Hill to & from the beach is very walkable even at 60! Cooked most meals in the casa & had numerous options for dining out. Our favorite place - Machete! San juan del sur is 20 mins away & had the supplies we needed for our stay. Food truck came twice a week & fruit made for delicious smoothies. My husband & I played tennis at a new court called Drop Shot, highly recommend for tennis enthusiasts! Sebastian was an incredible host, always available & gave us lots of recommendations for touring the area & Granada. He also arranged transportation to & from the costa rican border because we flew in & out of Liberia. The area was “very” safe & the locals so welcoming! We plan on returning, next time for much longer! Thanks so much sebastian!

The architecture is beautiful, spacious and comfy. Large kitchen. The host was responsive and helpful. Only inconvenience is the location, which is a (very) steep hill away from a large construction side, then the beach. But that's outside of his control. Overall recommended!

Such a beautiful place to stay in the jungle. Very comfortable and so lovely to hear the howler monkeys! Not much instructions for how to get to the house and not much instructions for in the house itself - otherwise, beautiful space, just be self sufficient!
