The Space
Frutepan is a traditional, rustic Caribbean home set in a jungle environment just steps from the beach. Because the house has three floors, guests should be comfortable using stairs.
The first floor features spacious common areas with comfortable seating for more than 10 guests, a half bathroom, a pantry, and a fully equipped kitchen.
On the second floor, there are two bedrooms, each furnished with two queen beds and a private bathroom. The terrace outside the bedrooms provides a peaceful spot for reading. In the evening, you can relax in the quiet surroundings while listening to the sounds of the ocean and jungle.
The third floor contains an apartment with a king bed, a private bathroom, and a kitchenette. Its traditional thatched palm roof adds an authentic touch, reflecting the way homes in the community have been built for generations.
With the beach only a few steps away, Frutepan offers an inviting setting for creating lasting memories.
The Property
Frutepan is part of La Caracola, a complex consisting of seven family vacation homes. Our caretaker lives on the property and can assist you during your stay.

Guests have access to the entire house.
Getting Around
You can reach Puerto Viejo by car, shuttle, or bus. Once you arrive, bicycles make it easy to explore the area while enjoying the full local experience. Transportation can also be arranged through us.

Nuestra estancia fue corta, pero para 3 familias con niños pequeños el lugar fue perfecto, Eva nos permitió ingresar 1 hora antes, la casa era amplia y con diferentes espacios para compartir, la cocina inmensa y con todo lo necesario, y lo mejor de todo es una playa casi privada a tan solo unos pasos caminando. Sin duda un gran lugar.

Das Haus ist zwar in die Jahre gekommen, manche Schönheitsmängel sind am Mobiliar zu sehen, das tut seinem Charme und seinen Qualitäten aber keinen Abbruch. Es ist individuell, sehr geschmackvoll vintagemäßig eingerichtet. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt, der Hausstrand ist eine Schönheit, Schnorcheln großartig, der Garten ist eine Pracht. Man lebt mitten in der Natur, ist Teil der "Gemeinde" und das ist mit Geräuschen unterschiedlichster Tiere und sinnlichen Eindrücken verbunden. Klar, einige Wirtschaftsgeräusche (Maschinen) aus der Nachbarschaft sind auch mit dabei, aber das ist bei gutem Wetter nur eine kleine Störung. Bei schlechtem Wetter hört man oft die Musik der Strandbar, das kann auch mal im Geräusche-Cocktail zu viel sein. Die Küche bräuchte vielleicht im Kochgeschirr ein paar Auffrischungen, dann wäre es perfekt. Die großzügige "Küchenebene" hat uns sehr gut gefallen, bis auf die schrägen Sessel, etwas zu hüftfordernd,;-). Für die 3 1/2 Wochen war es perfekt.

We loved our stay in Josef’s beach house. This was our first stop in a 3 week Costa Rica adventure and didn’t disappoint. We saw more wildlife around the house and surrounding area than anywhere else in Costa Rica, even more than on guided tours… sloths, howler monkeys, spider monkeys, great green macaws, agoutis, black hawks - so many birds. The house is very spacious, comfortable and well equipped. The beach is lovely and right on the doorstep. We did have to take care in the sea as there were some strong rip tides so snorkelling was quite limited. We stayed for 4 nights which was a good amount of time to explore the area and visit the jaguar rescue centre which is just up the road.

What an amazing property! For ten nights, we enjoyed crashing waves, lizards, hummingbirds, macaws, howler monkeys, and sleeping sloths high in the trees. Bringing the majestic outdoors of the lush jungle environment into the property was exactly what I needed! Our family of six had more than enough room to spread out when evening came ... and the unexpected summer hour of 6pm! One fabulous dinner option was just a short walk away, taking the meandering trail parallel to the beach. We made use of the beach toys and floated in tide pools to see the fish that swam among us and belly surfed when the waves were high. Thanks to this amazing property, this trip has moved squarely into first place of all our family vacations. Thank you Josef!

Un superbe séjour dans cette maison très accueillante, merci aux hôtes également très réactifs Bon emplacement avec plage privé en face de la maison et Puerto Viejo à quelques minutes de voiture Même si cela ne dépend pas des hôtes, nous sommes malheureusement tombés à côté de voisins très bruyants

House was wonderful! Eva was great was there for everything we needed and more. Josef was responsive and so nice! The place is steps away from the beach-not very swimmable-lots of rocks. The house was a great place to relax-ceiling fans and standing fans totally helped with the heat during our stay. Only one thing was the hot water wasn’t working properly. One shower out of 3 was nice to shower. One had no hot water at all and the master upstairs was either scalding hot or freezing-we told Eva and she got right on it and had someone come out 2 days later. After that 2 showers were great and the master upstairs was the same-what do you expect in the jungle? PURA Vida!!. We would definitely come back!

Can not beat this location, easy beach access and close to the amenities. For the price this was a wonderful stay and I’d definitely return.
