Overview
This naturalist's cabin is situated at Finca Colibri, a 20-hectare (50-acre) private reserve adjacent to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve. Nestled within a biologically diverse forest, the cabin offers comfortable and eco-friendly accommodations. Its passive solar design is innovative and environmentally conscious. Most of Finca Colibri remains pristine cloud forest, while a third of the property, once pastureland 30 years ago, has regenerated into beautiful secondary forest. Upon arrival, guests can leave their worries behind and immerse themselves in nature.
The Space
The cabin’s main appeal is its location within the authentic cloud forest—not merely a clearing surrounded by other vegetation types. Guests have access to several trails throughout the preserve, featuring both secondary and primary forest environments. The setting closely resembles the Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve but offers greater privacy with fewer visitors.
This retreat is ideal for individuals or couples who have a genuine interest in the forest, including scientists and photographers seeking undisturbed surroundings. Pets are not allowed to protect the local wildlife.
Important: Driving to Monteverde after dark is not recommended due to the mountainous roads, which can become hazardous in fog and rain. Navigating the area is much easier during daylight hours.
Guest Access
Guests have full use of the cabin and its two terraces, one of which includes a barbecue pit. Additional amenities include a building for washing and drying clothes, a parking area, and access to all trails within the preserve.

Perfect place to get away from it all. The property is excellently taken cared for and the trails and location are desired for hikers and nature enthusiasts. Nothing luxurious but that was exactly what we were looking for.

This is the true monteverde jungle cabin experience. perfect location near town and the parks. it is in the actual cloud forest with private hiking trails. be warned it is primitive and you are in nature. bugs will be in the cabin. it is worth the nature and privacy though. great stay for nature lovers who are not afraid of bugs. you need a car if you stay here.

Mills and Rolo were delightful, very knowledgable and responsive hosts. The cabin is literally right next to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and for those who want an immersive experience of nature this is it. This is undeniably a nature lover's destination and the cabin was perfect for us. It had everything you would need and it was cozy, private and comfortable. But it's really important to read Mills' description carefully. He's done a great job describing the cabin and also the challenges of getting there. We really appreciated his descriptions. There are extensive trails on the land and it's really worth hiking them. Tons of birds and we had a very fun dusk encounter with a driveway armadillo. Not sure who got the bigger initial scare when we walked by. We loved our stay here and just wish we had a few more days. Highly recommend.

We absolutely loved staying with Mills and Rolo! The cabin is situated in the jungle by a giant fig tree. There are many opportunities to view wildlife right from your cabin. The cabin was cozy, has good working hot water and a functional kitchen for making food. The property was wonderful we loved exploring all of the trails, bringing the map is helpful. Being right next to the park is very peaceful and special. This is definitely the best place to stay if you want to observe wildlife. We were happy to get to know Rolo and Mills who were wonderful hosts with lots of local suggestions and knowledge of the flora/ fauna :)

A rustic little cabin in the jungle, full of character and clearly maintained with care! Rolo was friendly, helpful, and quick to respond when we had questions. We enjoyed being woken up by birds every morning and exploring the property admiring the incredible diversity of insects and arachnids. A vehicle might be nice for this stay—if travelling on foot like us, the sidewalk ends a ways before reaching the property, but we walked the road a few times without issue.

Really beautiful and special stay. The land is lush and gorgeous and the house has everything you could need and nothing more. Loved the outdoor space / access to trails, the on demand water heater, and the extra blankets provided for a cozy nights sleep. Very grateful to responsive and passionate hosts for sharing their paradise. I’ll remember this stay for a long time :)

Finca colibrí is a very special rustic hideaway in Monteverde, with private trails and breathtaking scenery. Steps away from the reserve was extremely convenient. Walking to town, if you like, is mostly downhill, then the taxi back is 6000-7000 colones. The cabin had everything we needed to cook our meals and was very cozy at nighttime. Hot showers were welcome at nighttime when it gets cool in the cloud forest. Mills and Rolo had excellent suggestions and detailed instructions for our stay. Rolo generously helped us with our luggage with a golf cart when we arrived and upon departing. We cooked ourselves mostly but ate at the treetop restaurant and “the green”, both delicious. Each morning we were greeted with hummingbirds, coatis, agoutis and spider monkeys. Bring a flashlight/UV lights and do your own night walks to discover insects of all kinds. If you are serious about an immersive “fern gully” or “avatar” experience in the rainforest, look no further.
