Overview

Enjoy a short walk to the beach from this unique property featuring three interconnected cabins perched on a hillside with stunning ocean views. This well-crafted complex consists of comfortable rustic pine cabins designed in authentic Nicaraguan style. Located just 15 minutes from San Juan, Casa Malinche offers an ideal setting to connect with nature, relax by the beach, and learn to surf.

The Space

Guests have exclusive use of the entire house, accommodating up to six people. The layout is ideal for couples or one to two families.

The first level contains the social areas, including a "Great Room" that combines an open-concept kitchen, dining, and living space. This area overlooks the ocean and opens onto the main deck, furnished with lounge chairs and a hammock-covered porch.

The kitchen is fully equipped with:

• Gas stove and oven
• Refrigerator
• Microwave
• Toaster
• Blender
• Espresso and regular coffee makers
• Pots, pans, utensils, dishes, and cutlery

While running water is available, a 5-gallon bottled water supply is provided for cooking and drinking. A charcoal grill with charcoal included is ready for use; guests only need to bring their own food and supplies.

A newly built terrace with a charming pergola adds extra outdoor space. Additional stairs lead to terraced gardens on the hillside and a top lookout deck perfect for enjoying sunset drinks. Note that the property features many stairs, offering a chance to stay active while taking in the views.

Two upper bedroom levels provide quieter, private areas. The second level has a balcony, two bedrooms, and a shared bathroom. Bedrooms 2 and 3 each contain two twin beds that can be joined if preferred.

The third level houses the master bedroom, which includes:

• King-size bed
• En-suite bathroom
• Private porch and balcony with ocean views

All bedrooms are well-appointed with comfortable beds, linens, pillows, towels, and beach towels. Bathrooms come stocked with a hairdryer, hand soap, shower gel, and a 1-liter water bottle.

Natural cross ventilation is ensured by numerous screened windows, and ceiling fans are installed in every room. Balconies and terraces are furnished with a mix of hammocks, swings, lounge chairs, and tall tables with chairs—ideal for relaxing and watching sunsets.

Guest Access

A downhill trail leads directly to the beach. Alternatively, guests can drive via the public road. After beach time, refreshing outdoor showers are available on the third level.

Nearby the beach, you’ll find a few food shacks offering lounge chairs, cold beers, and delicious fish tacos. Private surfing lessons and board rentals can also be arranged.

Casa Malinche is perfect for travelers who appreciate nature, adventure, and quiet sandy beaches away from crowds. Early mornings bring visits from local birds like chocoyos, pijules, zanates, and urracas. You may also encounter small crabs, green lizards, and frogs throughout the day and night.

The sunsets are breathtaking, and the full moon setting over the bay is a memorable sight. Clear night skies reveal constellations rarely observed, while the sounds of frogs, wind, and ocean waves create a soothing atmosphere for sleep.

For fresh ingredients, guests often drive to San Juan to purchase seafood such as red snapper, lobster, and shrimp. Local markets provide vegetables, and the nearby Pali grocery store offers general supplies. For upscale shopping, Rivas has the La Colonia supermarket, while Maxi Pali superstore offers a wider selection, including sun protection products.

Additional Notes

The cabins, decks, and gardens are built on terraced levels connected by stairs, so be prepared for some climbing. The property is designed as a place to unplug, with no cell phone signal, but WiFi is available for internet access.
