The Space
From the moment you enter the gated property, you will feel as though you have arrived at your own private resort. Featuring a turquoise pool, a thatch roof, and attentive staff, Johnny’s Beach Bungalow is perfect for large groups, retreats, surf schools, and multi-family vacations.
The property boasts one of the best locations in the area, just a short walk to the beach and close to excellent restaurants. Nearby Hacienda Pinilla offers two 18-hole golf courses, tennis courts, and pickleball courts, providing high-end amenities at a competitive price.
With 19 beds accommodating up to 28 guests, Johnny’s Beach Bungalow is the most affordable luxury property per person in the region.
Our on-site staff live in an apartment on the property and specialize in delivering unforgettable five-star service, from airport pickups to delicious meals and attentive care. Staying here is designed to be a stress-free, dream vacation.
Vacation Packages
Breakfast
Each morning, our staff prepare delicious Costa Rican breakfasts for guests. We also offer American-style breakfasts upon request. Just inform us of your dietary preferences or restrictions, and we will accommodate them. This complimentary breakfast is our way of expressing gratitude for choosing Johnny’s Beach Bungalow. Meal Package
Dining out in the Tamarindo area can be costly, with breakfasts ranging from $12 to $15 per person and lunches or dinners between $15 and $30 per person, including food and drinks. For a group of about 20, daily breakfast expenses can reach $240 to $300, and lunch or dinner can cost $400 to $600.
Our upgraded meal package includes both lunch and dinner for $30 per person per day (guests aged five and older; young children eat free). This package typically saves guests 25-35% on overall food costs and offers the convenience of prepared meals.

Transportation Package
After a long journey, waiting in line at a car rental agency can be frustrating. Avoid this hassle by choosing our transportation package. We will greet you at the airport and bring you directly to the property. We can also make stops at restaurants or stores along the way.
Taxi rides from Liberia Airport to Johnny’s usually cost around $200 for eight passengers. We provide two 12-passenger vans for $150 per trip or $300 for a round trip.
Guests with this package may also use our vehicles to explore the area and attend excursions. Renting a van with fees and insurance typically costs about $260 per day, but our guests pay $150 per day. Our vehicles are about 10 years old, chosen for durability on Costa Rica’s roads. If you prefer a newer car, you can rent one through agencies.
Vehicle rental rates are $150 per day for the entire stay or $200 per day if rented for specific days only.
Presidential Package
For an all-inclusive experience, the presidential package combines the meal and transportation packages with additional services:
- Laundry services
- Daily cleaning
- Pickleball access at Hacienda Pinilla (about 10 minutes away)
- Massages
- Child care
- Excursion planning
- Boogie boards and surfboards
This comprehensive package costs the same as the booking and can be paid approximately 30 days before arrival.
An additional guest fee of $20 per day applies for each guest aged five or older beyond 16 guests.
Location
Johnny’s Beach Bungalow is located at the southern end of Playa Avellanas on the Pacific Ocean. Guests enjoy stunning sunsets and a short walk along the beach to Lola’s, a well-known family-friendly bar and restaurant. Many surf schools begin their lessons at Lola’s, making it a popular meeting spot for those learning to surf.
Bedrooms and Property Setup
The private resort accommodates up to 28 guests with six bedrooms, each featuring a private entrance and ensuite bathroom. Amenities include laundry services, complimentary breakfasts, and a gym.

- Bali Room: queen bed (sleeps 2)
- Surfer’s Cove: queen bed and bunk bed (sleeps 4)
- Sea Shell Escape: queen bed and bunk bed (sleeps 4)
- Breezy Tiki Hut (bunk room): three bunk beds, queen bed, and king bed (sleeps 10)
- Seaside Flat (mini apartment): queen bed, sleeper sofa, and kitchenette (sleeps 4)

- Gym and Yoga Patio: Covered outdoor patio with gym equipment including free weights and benches; suitable for yoga.
- Outdoor Showers: Two outdoor showers to rinse off after the beach.
- Dining Areas: Covered outdoor dining area with a Costa Rican Guanacaste wood table seating 12, plus additional kitchen seating.
- Full Kitchen: Fully stocked with pots, pans, blender, coffee maker, toaster, rice maker, cooking utensils, refrigerator, freezer, oven, and microwave. Guests have full access.
- Laundry Room: Available for guest use; laundry services included in the presidential package.
- Private Pool: Turquoise pool with rock waterfall, surrounded by lounge chairs and seating for relaxation.
- Internet: 200 Mbps Wi-Fi available for remote work or leisure.
- Safety and Security: Property enclosed by a concrete wall with two entrances and ample parking inside the gate. On-site staff provide assistance and can arrange medical services if needed.

Additional Information
Additional Guest Fee
The listed price covers up to 16 guests. For each additional guest aged five or older, there is a $20 per person per day fee. Since Airbnb limits bookings to 16 guests, we adjust pricing after booking based on your total number of guests.
Food Sensitivities and Preferences
Specialty dietary needs such as gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, or vegan meals incur an additional $5 charge per person per meal. Nut allergies do not incur extra fees, as Costa Rican cuisine rarely includes nuts. Please inform caretakers of any allergies to ensure a comfortable stay.

Neighboring Noise
The property is in a developing area of Avellanas, so construction noise may occur between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Modern construction with glass windows and doors provides soundproofing for quieter indoor spaces.

Costa Rica’s rich biodiversity includes various insects and animals. If any become a nuisance, please notify our caretakers, who will promptly address the issue.

The standout of our stay was the staff—they were incredibly kind and prepared delicious meals we all loved. There are pros and cons for location. It's just a short walk to Playa Avellanas, a gorgeous beach for swimming, waves, and surfing, with great nearby spots like Lola’s and other local restaurants and coffee shop. BUT, getting to Tamarindo or excursions was challenging due to very rough, pothole-filled roads (possibly worse in April), which made us less inclined to leave the area. The house felt a bit dated for the price, especially the kitchen—the dishwasher tipped forward when loaded and it needs an update. That said, the property is spacious and the bedrooms were comfortable. The pool is very nice. It was also noisier than expected, with dog barking at night and roosters early in the morning. If you’re looking for a true luxury stay, this may fall short, but it’s a spacious, comfortable place to enjoy time with family and friends in a great location.

We had an amazing stay here and would definitely come back. The property was incredibly peaceful and felt like the perfect getaway, especially for a big group like ours. There was plenty of space for everyone and it never felt crowded. One of the highlights was the meal plan. It made everything so easy for a big group like ours and took away the stress of coordinating meals. The food was great and really added to the overall experience. The location was also a huge plus. Being near the beach but in a more private and relaxed area than Tamarindo made it feel much more special and less crowded. Lastly, the hosts were fantastic. They were super friendly, responsive, and always willing to help with anything we needed. Overall, an awesome stay and I would highly recommend it to anyone, especially large groups.

Our stay was everything we imagined and more! The house is large with many bedrooms which all have bathrooms within them. The rooms were clean and organized and ready for our arrival. We had arranged to have dinner at the house upon our arrival and Karla prepared a delicious Costa Rican dinner for our group of 11. Every morning Karla prepared us a wonderful breakfast. It was so convenient not to have to go out for breakfast and the group could eat as they awoke. Alberto was so friendly and hospitable answering all of our questions and making great recommendations. We are ate at Gregarios, Lola’s and Lelos at Drift Away. All are very close and had many options that satisfied the group. We were three families ages ranging from 6 to 76. Emmanuel helped us organize excursions prior to our arrival. We had a private Catamaran tour and deep sea fishing in Tamarindo. They were both worth every penny! We added a great activity releasing sea turtles, it just happened to be the right time.

My family and I were fortunate to spend an additional 3 nights at the sister property, Johnny's Beach. We were welcomed warmly by Roberto and Karla upon arrival. Karla made us a delicious Costa Rican Meal. They seamlessly organized all the transport for our party of 13 from Lafortuna to Playa Avellanas. The property is within walking distance to the beach and restaurants: Lolas, Manta, and Gregorias. Tamaraindo is a 30-minute drive away and offers many activities. Again, what makes this home unique is its caretakers. We have stayed at many Airbnbs worldwide; here, you feel welcome, treated like family, taken care of, guided, and safe. Thank you, and we will definitely be back to visit!

Johnnys Beach Bungalow was perfect for our multi generation family reunion. There was plenty of space for everyone to sleep comfortably and the shared spaces were big enough for 14 of us to hang out. The proximity to the beach and Lola’s was a definite highlight of the trip. Karla and Alberto were incredible groundskeepers, drivers, concierges, and Karla did a great job taking care of so many of our meals. We would definitely stay here again.

This place is magical. We had three families stay together and there was plenty of room for all. The kids had a blast in the pool and felt super independent staying in the kids suite upstairs. But the magic of this place is in the people who take care of you. We were welcomed with open arms by Alberto, Luis and Julia and are already missing them. We felt at home, they were such wonderful people and they are a what makes the place 5 stars. Thank you all and hope to see you again!

The staff was incredibly accommodating and the place was beautiful! Far enough away from Tamarindo that it wasn’t packed with tourists and Playa Avellanas has everything you need from homemade Italian gelato to magic mushrooms.

What a beautiful space. Johnny’s had plenty of space for our party of 12, and Karla, Alberto and Emanuel made us feel welcomed and right at home. Emanuel made booking the excursions so easy, Alberto was so kind driving us where we needed to go, and Karla always greeted us with smiles and made the most delicious Costa Rican breakfast. The space itself felt secluded and tropical, but still was walking distance to the beach wnd some nice restaurants, and only 30 minutes from Tamarindo. We’d love to come back sometime. Thanks so much to Karla, Emanuel and Alberto for making our stay so memorable.

Our extended family of 14 stayed for 10 days and had a great time. A three minute walk to the beach was the highlight for the kids. The beach was never crowded, had sand expanses to spread out on and able to wade into the surf quite aways. When we were back at the bungalow, the pool was almost always in use. The place is private, but Karla, Alberto and Luis were available whenever we had questions.Karla is an amazing chef and we had many of her meals. Meals were well balanced with delicious fresh juicy fruit. She offered to make American food, but the Costa Rican recipes were too good to pass up. Even the picky eaters had plenty to eat. They were helpful in lining up outings for us and transporting us to a health clinic when our youngest arrived feeling sick. They made us feel like family and welcome. We picked Johnny's Beach Bungalow because we wanted to have a Costa Rican experience that put us in touch with Costa Rican people and culture. We were not disappointed
