Ocean-view 4BR villa in Malpais, Costa Rica, with lush gardens, large pool, and wildlife. Perfect for relaxing, surfing, and immersing in nature just minutes from Santa Teresa.
The Space
Casa Rica is a beautiful ocean view villa featuring a spacious outdoor pool area and lush gardens. Situated on the southern Nicoya Peninsula in Malpais—one of the world's Blue Zones—it is just a short drive from the renowned surf destination of Santa Teresa to the north and the Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve to the south.
The villa offers four bedrooms and four bathrooms, along with a large pool and stunning ocean views. A 4x4 vehicle is required to access the property.
Casa Rica is ideal for two families or a small group of friends visiting Costa Rica to unwind while being immersed in nature, local wildlife, tranquility, and, of course, surfing. The villa includes a large living room with an open-plan kitchen and dining area, all overlooking the garden and ocean.
The four comfortable bedrooms are as follows:
- Master bedroom: king-size bed with an ensuite bathroom featuring both a shower and bathtub.
- Second master bedroom: queen-size bed with an optional single bed, plus an outdoor bathroom with a shower and bathtub. This bathroom offers a peaceful setting to relax while listening to the jungle and enjoying ocean views.
- Guest bedroom: queen-size bed with an ensuite bathroom including a shower.
- Guest bedroom: two queen-size beds with a separate bathroom containing a shower.
Location and Access
To reach Casa Rica, a 4x4 vehicle is necessary. During the dry season, an ATV or Rhino may also be suitable.
Amenities
- Fiber optic internet connection
- Security system with cameras and alarms
Wildlife and Environment
Guests can expect to see wildlife in its natural surroundings. Howler and white-faced monkeys frequently pass through the nearby trees, along with iguanas and raccoons. Being in a tropical environment, harmless insects such as ants, cockroaches, and geckos may be present, especially during the rainy season. This is typical of the area and does not reflect on cleanliness.
Additional Notes
- Power outages are common in Santa Teresa and may occur during your stay; this is a normal aspect of the local infrastructure.
- The region experiences high humidity, averaging 74% annually, with peaks up to 87% in October and lows around 71% in February. This can cause clothes to take longer to dry, particularly during the rainy season.

This home is fantastic! Private with beautiful jungle and ocean views. Lots of wildlife out the back door with capuchin monkeys and coati’s visiting almost every day of our stay. The location is perfect - away enough from the busy streets/noise of Santa Teresa but close enough that quick drive gets you to town in minutes. Amazing beach access right down from the road the home is on as well. I would highly recommend this place to anyone considering Santa Teresa/Malpais.

Great experience in Casa Rica, the location matches the description and the house is just like it is shown in the pictures. Excelent location, less than a 10 min drive into Santa Teresa. You get to see monkeys, guaras and hummingbirds without leaving the house! Host is easy to communicate and helps with local recommendations and anything else you may need for your stay. 10/10!!

We travel to Costa Rica with our kids yearly but this time we went 3 of our dear friends. We stayed at Bess’s place for 8 days and it was wonderful. The house is very spacious and was beautiful. As it states you definitely need a 4 x 4 to get up the hill, though the neighbors have been working tediously trying to repair the road as it is an evacuation route. I’m not sure what was better the view or the location. Its jungle setting with an ocean view was one of my favorite things about the place and proximity to town was my second. You’re far enough from town for it to be private yet close enough to be at the beach in less than five minutes. Bess was very responsive and helpful with recommendations. We would definitely recommend staying here! Thanks Bess for the great week!

This is arguably one of the most beautiful airbnbs I’ve had the pleasure of staying in. There is sooo much beauty when you arrive in Santa Teresa and when I got to the house I was speechless. It was like spending a week in paradise. We saw monkeys in the front yard and deck one morning, and a few mornings later in the backyard while we were taking a bath. I will absolutely come back to this house in a few years. Everything about it is amazing and the hosts are easy and quick to communicate with. (They also helped us rent a car, huge help) 1000/10

We started our honeymoon here and couldn't ask for anything more! Fiona was more than helpful with any questions we had and provided great restaurant recommendations in the area! The home feels secluded but you are also so close to the town. We loved listening to the wildlife, doing yoga on the deck, and just relaxing around the home. Pictures don't do the place justice it is just so magical. The home was spotless and the kitchen was stocked with everything you would need, so we loved cooking breakfast each morning. We took an all day boat tour and my husband enjoyed cooking the fish we caught at night. I used the outdoor shower every day! Again, the home is magical and we would absolutely stay here again! This was our 2nd time in Costa Rica and we continue to fall in love with this country more and more. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay and providing an excellent home that felt so comfortable and homey!

Beautiful location and property. View is fantastic. Pool area was lovely. Outdoor bathroom was a vibe. Felt extremely private and peaceful. Fairly quick access to town in Santa Teresa. Our host/concierge Fiona was extremely responsive and helpful. Our first time in Costa Rica so a few notes for other first time visitors relevant to this property. The roads to access the house are really rough which made coming and going an adventure. 4x4 helpful. In April, temp is fairly hot and high humidity. The AC kept the bedrooms nice and cool but the main room stayed pretty warm. House is set in the beautiful jungle which means wildlife at all times of day and night. Very fun but also a LOT of noise. Bring earplugs if a sensitive sleeper. A few small issues with the appliances during our stay but everything was resolved reasonably. Overall our trip was fabulous and would absolutely book with this host and property again.
