I can't say enough good things about our stay here at Cohune Palms. Our cabin was clean with a beautiful deck below on the river. Bevin had asked if we wanted dinner on arrival, and after a 5 hour flight and just under 2 hour drive, it was a great welcome. We were the only guests and essentially Nelia was our private and very lovely chef. This was a last minute change to our trip and we stayed in a neighboring cabin the following 2 nights and were most disappointed (noisy from the road and neighbors playing music loud, forced communal meals) and wished we could have stayed here at Cohune Palms longer - it was a little slice of paradise.

Hi Karen - Thank you for taking the time to write this review. I hope you can come back soon!!!

The people watching over this place are very nice and welcoming. The place is cozy and we didn't real miss the use of the ac as it cools down at night. During the day laying out on the hammocks by the river helped us keep cool. The ladies cooking food were delightfuland the food delicious. Just beware of critters in the Cabanas (Lizards, big roaches and spiders) if you dont mind a few of those then this place is wonderful

HI Raquel - I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you for your review!! I know Mel and everyone appreciate hearing that you liked their food as well. I just wanted to clarify a bit on the insects you saw in your cabana. We do everything we can to keep the cabanas insect-free. The cabanas roofs are regularly sprayed and the cabanas themselves are fully screened. We are constantly checking cabanas and keeping them clean. Upon reading this review, I just personally wanted to reach out and say I wish that you had said something while you were there so that could have been taken care of. What happens, because we are in a very tropical area, is that occasionally - during rainy times especially- come out in general. I just wanted to let you know that's not the norm and sorry that you had that experience. Fortunately - the geckos do eat the other insects so it's not a bad thing to have one in your cabana! lol. If you want to come back, I'm happy to discount your next stay. Take care!

Me and my family had an incredible time at Cohune Palms River Cabanas. The location was great, the food, and most of all, the people! Anyone going here that is interested in the culture should sit down and chit chat with the workers. Mike was also very helpful finding us the best deals and accommodations to get to different places such as big rock waterfalls, Xunantunich and cave tubing... This area is also a good place to relax (there is good wifi šŸ˜› ) We wish we could of stayed longer and we are very happy that we found this wonderful place!

Loved this little oasis! Really close to San Ignacio restaurants and many attractions. Hosts were friendly and kind and know much about Belize and culture. My kids loved the rope swing out into the water. No bugs here. Beautiful private deck with river and jungle view. Really good breakfast and dinner available on site. We loved everything about our stay. Just a bit of a rough road to reach the cabanas. Just great place all around.

Bevin's place is absolutely wonderful! The cabana is cozy and beautiful. The common area and the river are magical. Melanie welcomed us with kindness and excellent food, and Mike gave us suggestions about things to do. The place is located in Bullet Tree which is a small village very close to San Ignacio. It was very easy to reach the city and the sites with our car. The atmosphere in the place is so calm and pleasant - we were extremely happy about our stay and if we come back to the area (hopefully soon!!) we will stay only there!

One note to start is we were here in September, it was pretty Hot and Humid for us northerners, and there is no AC. We knew there was no AC going in, it but maybe were not fully prepared for the heat, although cold showers before bed helped. As for the property, it was a really cool location to stay. It was super quiet there, and the hospitality from Frank and Mel were amazing. We had 2 of our 3 dinners with Mel who's cooking was probably some of the best we had in Belize (only rivaled by the Hungry Grouper in San Pedro). Mel also packed a lunch for our own trip to Caracol. I think we tried all of her breakfasts as we had that every morning. They always had coffee ready by the time we were up and provided great tips about local places to visit, and Frank even helped us set up our ATM cave tour. ATM is a must do from here, and is not as taxing as some people make it out to be. I would recommend booking here. We also enjoyed the company of Whiskey (the local dog) and Butt Cheek (local cat) who would hang out with us in the evenings. We also got to see several toucans in the early mornings. Bring bug spray if you plan to hang out in the evenings by the river though. These are the types of stays why I prefer Airbnb over Hotels, just because of the hospitality and local knowledge we get from hosts like Frank and Mel.

We loved our stay at the Toucan Cabana in Cohune Palms! As with anything, it’s good to be real about expectations - this is a thatched hut cabana in a jungle. This makes it fun and unique and cozy! But also granted to be a little ā€œcloser to natureā€ than some travelers might like. ;) The staff are all AMAZING. Attentive and friendly and open to giving tips about any aspect of Belize that you want to know. Melanie is also a fantastic cook. We are almost all of our meals on-site and loved it. Nothing better than breakfast by the river in my book! I highly recommend this wonderful little hideaway outside of San Ignacio.

The local stream is under sold and should be be added as a great experience. If i owned the place i would buy more tubes and provide maps of the river. The host and the cook were above and beyond. Mike was available at all times and had great insight about trips and local activities. The cook was great, perfect, or amazing, I am not sure what word fits best to describe her. Mike and Mel treated us like long lost friends. The cabanas are an excellent choice for rooms that will leave a lasting memory. Lastly, there was a dog by the name of Whiskey. As crazy as this may sound, Whiskey showed us the route to the river and oddly protected us from other dogs and cars along the way. Whiskey showed us where to get in, and how to get through the rapids. If whiskey got to far ahead he simply waited for us to catch up and continued on. I know that sounds like a movie or hard to believe, but that was the honest truth. I have never seen anything like that before in my life!!! If and when i come back i will spend more time Cohune Palms Ps. Pay Whiskey in scrapes for a job well done.

What a special spot! This small group of peaceful riverfront cabanas was the perfect place to stay between adventures in the San Ignacio area. With available home-cooked meals, cold beer, and plenty of local stories and tips, it was everything we could have wished for. It'd even be the perfect spot to spend a complete day just lounging in a hammock, reading and recharging to the sounds of the forest. We'll definitely stay here on future trips to San Ignacio!
