2BR Home in Playa Negra

David

Excellent, 10 months ago

A cozy house in a safe and quiet place. Very well equipped kitchen. It is a 5-minute walk to Playa Negra. In addition to the service. I accidentally canceled my reservation and the Airbnb team, along with the host, helped me resolve it quickly.

Our family of three had a great time and we were very comfortable. The instructions were easy to follow and we felt secure. If we had to suggest an improvement it might be another blanket on the bed and a list of tuk-tuk’s but we can’t overemphasize how happy we are with our choice to stay at Papi’s! Our questions were answered almost immediately and in a very helpful manner. It was a perfect place to relax and rest while enjoying our trip!

“The house was nice, but already on day two a cover strip on the door came loose. The door worked optimally for the rest of the stay. We reported this at check-out, but were surprised to receive a payment request for the opposite door, which worked perfectly when we left. This seems like normal wear and tear, and it is not reasonable that the last guest should pay for something that is already worn. In addition, the neighbor's dog barked at all hours of the day, which affected the night's sleep. Overall, unfortunately, we cannot recommend this place.”

We had a great stay overall at Papi’s, the inside was very clean and perfect for the kids. The pool was a bit smaller than it appeared in photos but we actually preferred that because we have young children. We loved the style of the home, it was super welcoming and the instructions for check in were very helpful. We also loved that we could be inside but at the same time keep a eye on the kids from every room. We didn’t love that the pool guy and the cleaning lady popped up without any notice and because of all the windows it wasn’t great for privacy, but they were perfectly nice. The only other criticism we had was that around the pool it obviously hadn’t been cleaned in a while and we had to clear some animal poop, large ants and spiders ourselves. However we understand it’s Costa Rica so it wasn’t a huge issue.

The home match the photos but one of the issues was the camera when you walk inside the home. Definitely breach of privacy as a single woman. Also, there were people in and out at odd times without my knowledge or permission such as the pool person at 6:30a. My service dog alerted me of them being there. When I asked about it, they stated that in their rules, services will be performed throughout the stay. Didn’t feel privacy and safety was given to the respect of me being a guest. I ended up leaving. Overall, I do feel like the price was a too high for the home with not much provided but access to the home (No washer or dryer access, not many towels, no cleaning supplies, no trash bags, and you have to remove all trash) or you will be charged. In the rules they require you to remove all trash, but do not provide trash bags or cleaning supplies. The guest is responsible. However, the bathroom had debris as I checked in and so did the outside sofas. Overall the home was nice in appearan

We had a fantastic stay! The house was spotless, with large, beautifully appointed bedrooms and super comfy beds and pillows. The kitchen was spacious and fully equipped with everything we needed for our stay. The pool was a highlight—sparkling clean and perfect for relaxing. The entire property is walled, which made it ideal and worry-free for our small dog to roam safely. Location-wise, it’s perfect—close enough to the center for convenience, but tucked away enough to enjoy peace and quiet. Bonus points for the cute little convenience store just a short walk away. Highly recommend—would definitely stay again!

Nice Place , all of the basis were covered its not on the beach but its close the and space and private pool you have make up for not being on the water.…. there were bikes for getting into town. Host recommended restaurants and things to do. There were backpack beach chairs for day time sunbathing which I bought to the beach for daytime excursions. And plenty of linens for the bathrooms. I had no complaints the place was private and secluded. I needed the bikes or local tuk tuk taxis to get to the center of town which wasn’t a problem. I recommend getting a small suv if you want to drive yourself some of the roads are a little bumpy… and a regular car just wont do. Bring a small umbrella for the daytime occasional showers. There was a supermarket which wasn’t too far It was great for food and snacks etc when not dining in town…Papi’s place met all of my needs and I would definitely stay again.

Papi's Place was great for our family. Car rentals during this season is untouchable ($150) per day! However, Uber from the house to town and Tut-Tut's back to the house works great and very inexpensive. The house was equipped with majority of everything from home. The fan was a plus while relaxing by the pool. If you plan on cooking meals, the only downside is pots and pans are very limited but that did not interfere with us enjoying our stay. It was awesome!!!

Pro’s Clean modern new Small but nice pool Good size garden for my dog to run around but if you have a small dog they could escape under the gate. Nicely decorated Comfy beds Towels / sheets nice but no comforter or duvet I complained but never got an answer back. Good airconditioner Walk to beach Store close by Con’s No screens on doors Construction next door with dogs caged in a kennel 24/7 barking all hours of the night. This area is a street that is being revitalized with construction of new homes. It would have been helpful to know this before booking. Almost zero pans to cook with. Had to buy a pan which I left at the house. I checked out 5 days early due to the noise. The owner never offered to help me find another Airbnb.

Host Response

Some guest are in the business of trying to figure out a way to stay in Airbnb's for free and fabricate stories. The property is located on a very quiet street that is surrounded by jungle behind, one elderly, quiet couple on one side and an empty lot on the other. There are absolutely no dog kennels to be found in the area and nothing but the quiet, serene sounds of nature to soothe you through the night. There are at least 2 extra sheets and blankets for each bedroom. The kitchen is well equipped with multiple pots and pans to complete any gourmet meal. Regrettably, the guest decided to cancel after 4 days into the reservation, after her companion abandoned her in Costa Rica. Then she illegally occupied the property after cancelation, refusing to vacate and disregarding all requests to depart. We were advised by Airbnb to involve local authorities to remove the guest from the property, but instead remained conciliatory.

Papi’s place was simply paradise. We felt right at home. Walking distance from beautiful beaches. The pool is great if you just want to stay home and chill. The beds were comfortable. The house is surrounded by rainforest so expect calming nature sounds all day long. Kitchen is well equipped. As a cook I was happy to find everything I needed. We will be back!

Host Response

Thank you so much for the wonderful and detailed review! You and your group were an absolute pleasure to host.... we hope to see you back at Papi's Place soon!

We had an awesome stay at Papi's - The house was beautiful - almost brand new and immaculately clean. Lots of thoughtful touches, and the kitchen had everything you could think of. Walking out of the bedrooms or living area straight to the gorgeous pool was our favourite. The location was easy to find, and the beach was only a few minutes' walk away. A quiet area away from the bustle of Puerto Viejo which was a 5 minute drive. Our hosts were extremely responsive and gave us lots of great local tips. We will definitely be back to stay!
