Host Response

Thank you so much we are very happy that you loved your stay at Monos & Mar !

Access is easy and flexible, the bedrooms were a good size and fortunately had air conditioning. Communication with M-J worked out great. It had many good restaurants within walking distance and the beach is great. What was not apparent from the listing: - All rooms are only accessible via the open terrace. There is no common interior. - The busy road generates a constant noise level from about 5:30 am to about 10:00 pm

Lori and M-J’s is as described in the Airbnb listing. It is clean, comfortable, quiet and well decorated. The space has everything you need. The beds are very comfortable. The kitchen area is well equipment for meal preparation and food storage. The WiFi, air conditioning and hot water work well. The patio area is pleasant and tranquil. Shops, businesses, grocery stores, excellent restaurants, pubs, coffee shops, ATMs, beaches, parks, and touristic sites are within walking distance from the accommodation. Communication and checking in and out is easy. Mégane, the on-site co-host, was delightful, always available and eager to be of assistance. This was my fourth stay for a total of eight months at Monos y Mar. I highly recommend this accommodation.

The advantages of this location are the short walk to the beach and the wildlife in the trees about it. We observed a large male howler monkey in the tree over the residence. I’m told this is rare, usually the monkeys seen are small traveling along the power lines. There are large iguanas in the trees across the road observable from the deck area. The downside of this place is that the common area is outside. The other rental units are also open air, meaning you hear their full conversations and music as if you’re sitting with them. Of course, it’s hot - so if you want to sit as a group in AC you’ll have to gather in one of the bedrooms. The biggest drawback is the location on the main road. There is a reductor (speed bump) which leads to all the vehicles gunning their engines s as they pass. The cars aren’t so bad, the trucks and buses can be loud, but the motorbikes are insufferable. They are numerous, loud and travel all day. We left after one night for a quieter rental.

Very easy access to Samara beach & restaurants. Co-host Megane was very friendly & accommodating, even helped us with a mixup on our trip dates. We really enjoyed the large open patio, table & sitting areas on the deck and AC in the bedrooms was wonderful. Super comfy beds, great water pressure, convenient kitchen appliances. NOTE: We didn’t realize how LOUD the road out front is. Visually the setting is lovely, but with the almost constant motorcycle & big truck engine revving, it wasn’t as relaxing an atmosphere as we’d hoped for our beach vacation. Still, good price + very convenient location + helpful hosts are all worthy of a good review for the things within their control.

the apartment was perfect , really well located . Megan ( the co-host) was very responsive to our questions and requests . For the price it's really a deal not to be missed . I was with my mother so having two gates that can lock a key before entering the apartment really helped us feel safe. The terrace is really perfect to enjoy the outdoors with a good dinner . The kitchen is very well equipped for cooking .

Monos y Mar is an excellent place to stay in Samara! We stayed on the top level and it was easy to access, the rooms were comfortable, spacious, and bedrooms had A/C for welcome relief from the hot days! If you wake up early, there’s great birdwatching from the balcony - we also lucked out and saw a family of howler monkeys in the distance traversing from tree to tree. So rad! This apartment had everything we needed, and the local property manager, Megane, is a clear, proactive, and responsive communicator. I’d book this apartment again for sure!

I would not recommend this apartment. While the location is walkable to the beach, it is at the edge of Samara on a very busy highway with no sidewalks. Entering and exiting the apartment is very difficult and dangerous to navigate. The bedrooms, bathroom, and kitchen all open onto an open patio, and there is no communal, interior place to hang out. Further, the bedroom doors need to stay closed due to heat and mosquitos, so you are segregated into two private rooms at all times. As a result, I do not recommend this apartment for a family, especially those with small children--we could not hear our 4-year-old in the night if she needed to get up to use the bathroom.

Great place on top floor with a big, lovely patio area that was pleasant to hang out on. Nicely equipped, cute kitchen. Comfortable beds and good air conditioning (in bedrooms only, but we didn’t need it elsewhere as the living areas are outside on the patio). Each bedroom and the bathroom has its own lockable door from the outside tile walkway leading from the patio to the kitchen. So the two bedrooms have good privacy from each other. There is a locking gate at the outside entrance to the property and another before you get to all the other areas beyond the patio, so we felt safe and secure. We were a short walk from everything to do in town. There is some street noise. And we didn’t love not being able to flush toilet paper, but that’s life in many places in the world where the plumbing is delicate, and you get used to it. Mégane was very responsive, helpful and friendly. This sweet place was a great value and we enjoyed our stay. Sámara is a fun and chill beach town.

We loved our 7 week stay at Monos Y Mar! Everything was perfect, loads of space, fully equipped kitchen, good wifi, hot shower (though not always needed in CR!) Washer and dryer, lovely outside space. A huge main bedroom with loads of wardrobe space. The second bedroom was perfect to use as a working space. We really felt at home. The best part is seeing the Howler monkeys come past everyday and we had a resident lizard living on the patio we named Lenny. Mègane the co-host lives on site and was very helpful and friendly. Amazing location. You get a bit of road noise but we didn’t mind. We would definitely stay here again.

Without many options in the town of Samara this was a good one. It advertises AC but there's only AC in the bedrooms. some days cooking in the kitchen was so hot we had to change before we ate because we were dreanched in sweat (when it's 100 degrees before you start cooking it doesn't take long to heat the kitchen up to a much hotter temp!) Even portable fans would have helped immensely! There is no shade on the patio despite the photos showing a giant umbrella. the owners communicated this to us when we arrived but we couldn't use that space between 9 am and 6 pm because it was so hot. Some days we couldn't walk across the tiles in bare feet that's how hot it would get! We loved watching the birds and iguanas and the hornet's build there nest across the road, the monkeys, and being a 5 minute walk to the beach. Note to parents with small children: there's no hallway or enclosed space connecting the rooms. so when you walk out of your bedroom your on a patio/outdoor walkway (I'm not really sure what to call it) the same for the other bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. They all lead out to the outside area. This was hard for us to adjust to. Getting up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night bats hanging above your head was super creepy! (and annoying because we'd have to sweep up their poop in the morning) Or our youngest would get up and forget to shut the door when she went back to bed leaving it open to outside. Just something to note, especially if you have really little ones. Was a nice space for the area.

Lori and M-J are great hosts: incredibly kind and responsive. Their place is close to the beach and a fun spot to stay at

Host Response

Thanks, nice it all worked out well with the extra day!

Excellent place to stay! It was comfortable, convenient, and the hosts and on-site managers were quick to help us the few times we needed it. We would definitely stay here again. Pros: effective air-conditioners in bedrooms, 5 min walk to the beach, spacious, clean, well-equipped kitchen, fairly private Cons: a little noisy from the road and the music from the church and nearby restaurant (not every day and not past 9pm though); loss of internet and electricity on occasion (though no worse than elsewhere in Costa Rica); patio gets very hot, though there is an umbrella for shade

The flat is very nice and spacious with a large partly covered terrace. Everything just like on the photos and even more beautiful. The pads on the terrace furniture were like new. The kitchen was very well-equipped. There were also bottle openers and box openers available, even a peeler. The beds are comfortable and there are enough, yes, many cabinets for clothes. Only one TV was missing, but we didn't really miss it. Wifi was good. In the direct in the immediate vicinity, you could within walking distance of Samara's beach and also shopping as well as many restaurants. By car, between 5 to 10 minutes, you can reach a beach that is ideal for swimming and longer stays. This beach offers everything to be happy, clean water, shade, sun, public benches and tables and utilities by moving dealers

Really nice apartment with a lot of space to chill out and relax, and also to cook, the kitchen has everything you need. Close to everything. Claudette is a really nice and helpfull host. When ever you need something from her she is there. We also had nice conversations. The only thing that has to be considered is that the house is located right on the main road which can be a little bit noisy. But still would recommend it a 100%.

The upper level was roomy with a large bedroom, bath, full kitchen, dining nook and a sitting area - lots of options. The terrace is an added bonus for sunrise coffee or sunbathing later in the day. Morning and evening bird varieties in nearby trees. Several iguana entertain on neighboring rooftops. Resident pets were so fun! Location is great - easy access to beach, restaurants, and groceries. Best of all, Claudette knows the town and can suggest how to enjoy it. I’ll return again.
