2BR Home in Ometepe

OK, 1 year ago

Great location with view of the lake. Peaceful area with only the sound of birds. However, there is a lot of stuff lying about the house and generally quite dirty and dusty. Also, the tin roof doesn't have insulation and isn't sealed so it is very loud when raining plus many insects and lizards can enter.

A wonderful place to escape! Perfectly located by the lake yet easy walking distance to shops and restaurants. The house is very spacious for the price with everything you might need included, well equipped kitchen and plenty of outdoor seating including a hammock to enjoy the view. Yariela was always available to respond to messages straight away and happy to help, her family and neighbours were incredibly welcoming and friendly. This would definitely be my first choice when I return to Ometepe!

The stay in Yariela’s property was great. We felt right home and enjoyed the environment (and the lovely island of Ometepe). It’s practical, remote, peaceful everything we were looking for. No big luxury (but one doesn’t go to Ometepe for luxury!). Yariela is a very friendly person. Very reactive and helpful. She even helped us book the ferry to Ometepe because we hadn’t done it in advance and it was nearly sold out on our travel date. (Advise: if you’re traveling to Ometepe with a vehicle, book your ferry a few days in advance). Highly recommended!

A house is not luxurious, it is simple but cozy, it has 2 bedrooms with its private bathrooms, a living room, a kitchen, a porch and a patio. It also has a grill, semi-automatic washing machine and has an outdoor parking lot with ample space for light or large vehicle. The property is relatively close to the San Jorge port, it is also located near the island airstrip. The location of the place is very safe, nearby there is a private establishment for drinks and watching the sunset. The house does not have direct access to the lake. You can get there by lightweight vehicle, although there is a stretch of about 100 meters that is land and narrow, which in rainy weather can be very difficult to transit. Remember to carry repelente para mosquitos there are many at night. The host and her family were very friendly and accessible. Thank you for the flexibility in check in and check out times.

We stayed here Oct 15-17 '24. Directions to get to the house were a bit confusing but thanks to the neighbors we were able to find its location. I speak Spanish so it was never an issue as far as communication, just difficult directions. This house is in a Beautiful location, just a few feet away from the lake. We found it to be very safe and the neighbors are very friendly. There is a Bar / Cantina about a one minute walk away. They usually have hammocks so you can relax by the water. We did have a small issue with water leaking in the kitchen making quite a mess and made it known to the owner. Besides that we had no issues at all. I will agree with a previous guest that this house is Basically someone's regular home that they rent out when not home. Even has a picture of the family on a table by the fridge. This is not a house that is properly set up for Airbnb especially for the price. For those driving to this house, know that the roads leading to it are not maintained & are rough.

This was an absolute lovely place to stay! If you love the country, sunsets, & being near the water, this is definitely it! It is a hike into town, but not a bad hike. Having some sort of transportation would make it perfect tho. The house has everything you could possibly need for short or long term stay. All you need is groceries! I will definitely make another trip here! And, the outdoor accommodations have everything! Hammocks, chairs, rockers, picnic table & benches, a place to grill, an outdoor sink, & plenty of lighting, & plug ins. And, you can sit & have coffee & watch the cows being herded down to the lake. There’s also a little bar next door & they rent paddle boards. If you’re looking for a nice, quiet place to get away, this is definitely it! The host is awesome & Flanklin, who picked me up at the dock is a gem! And, Helem, who let me in & showed me around was very sweet! 100% recommend!

If you want to live in a local community in a locals house, Yirellas place is the place to be. It’s similar to what Airbnb used to be like, just that the host wasn’t there, but left us the house all for ourselves. I liked that it about it a lot. The location is right next to the best sunset spot on the whole island. However, if you’re looking for a clean, tidy and „western-style“ house, look for a different option. It’s a house that „normal“ people would live in here in Nicaragua (more upper-middle class people). I don’t mean to be pretentious or anything, I just want to give you a heads up, because after being there, it’s clear to me that the other two reviews were written by family or friends of Yirella‘s. I will say again: I liked it a lot (other than the cleanliness), but the pictures and reviews don’t paint the right picture. Also, communicating with Yirella was unfortunately not easy. She didn’t give us an address, just a phone number that didn’t work. Overall, okay value.

The location is excellent and the house faces the lake, where you can swim and watch the sunset. Many animals pass by there; it's like being on a farm. I had the opportunity to see and experience more of local life. The house is close to the airport, where there is a beautiful view of the Concepcion Volcano and the sunrise. Also, during the night, due to the low light pollution in the area, I had the opportunity to see a perfect sky with great star visibility. The house has 2 bedrooms, the kitchen is well-equipped, the outdoor area has hammocks, chairs, and a washing machine. I work remotely and the internet worked perfectly. The only thing I didn't like was the mattress; I found it quite soft and uncomfortable. The owner of the house is responsive, she is always available to answer any questions and help with anything you need, and she is very polite. I recommend it! (Taxi from Moyogalpa - 80 cordobas -the neighborhood is called La Paloma).
