Probably one of the best and most unique airbnbs I’ve ever stayed at. So close to everything we need and the house was massive with many areas to socialize and plenty of room to sleep.

This was our favorite Airbnb of the entire trip! The home is absolutely beautiful, spacious, and full of character. Every detail added to its charm, and it truly felt like a special place to stay. The location was unbeatable—we were able to walk to restaurants, cafés, and shops with ease, and we loved doing our morning walks through the beautiful streets of Granada. Beila was wonderful throughout our stay—always friendly, responsive, and incredibly helpful. We couldn't have asked for a better experience and would gladly stay here again. Highly recommend! ❤️🇳🇮

This was an amazing Airbnb to stay in. First off- it’s huge and there is a ton of space inside. Bedrooms were good and clean. AC worked great. We had a minimal charge for the additional Electricity. My kids loved the home and the surrounding area! Hosts were amazing and very helpful. If I were you- I’d stay here!!! We will be back again to visit soon!!!!!!!!!

We stayed with 6 adults / 4 kids / 1 dog. The pool is small but the kids loved it and it was used multiple times a day. Kitchen was well stocked with pots/pans/dishes/glasses. We cooked a few meals there including a big Christmas feast. Space for parking two cars - very secure and private. Easily walk around Granada. Lots of restaurants nearby and coffee right across the street. Margarita and House Manager Belia were very responsive - helping arrange a ride to the airport and suggestions on activities in the area.
Host Response
Thank you Steve for your comment! We enjoyed receiving you, even the dog has left dog hair in quite a lot of space.

The house is beautiful and as clean as you can get a 200+ year old house. Margarita was sweet and helped us find things we wanted to buy while we were visiting. What kind of made the trip less than great was that electricity was not included in the over 400 dollar rent. Call me old fashioned but a vacation should be stress free. Air, water, soap, towels, and electricity should be part of rent. We should not have to wonder what using the air conditioner would cost when we are hot. We were told to run the pool filter for two hours per day. We don’t know what the mandatory filter will cost. If it were a 25 dollar per day rental it makes sense that you can’t pay that and use 25 dollars of electricity. I just recommend add 20 bucks to the rent and drop the fee.
Host Response
Thank you Terry for visiting us. Your comment is perceived as slightly harsh, considering the specific attention you have requested and received from us! Include or not the electricity in the renting price is a dilema, and we describe it in the house presentation. With 4 aircon in the house, the cost of electricity being so high in Nicaragua, it will depend a lot on the aircon temperature defined by the renter. This is why we believe it is fair to provide a credit for electricity per day to cover the basic use. And by the way, you did not have to pay anything extra as you were in the pattern of your credit. As regards the filter of the pool, this was a suggestion to keep the water perfectly clean, there is no obligation.

The owner communicated very poorly. No flexibility for changes, it charged more for use of lamps as the air condition was not working. I had to submit a complaint to Airbnb to ask for support and request a refund, which was granted to me. Be careful with extra charges.
Host Response

Beautiful house perfectly centred to all amenities. The house had everything you needed to relax and chill. The house manager was available at all times and assisted with any questions we had. We have not words to describe how perfect our time at Casa La Gran Sultana was. Thank you Margarita and Bhelia for everything you did to ensure we had a great vacation.

Thank you Gina for your kind comments! It was easy indeed to support you and your positive attitude is what we look for, that is people who come to Granada to enjoy the city and the house!

The location was absolutely perfect. Close to many great restaurants and the central park. All the restaurants that we picked ahead of time were only a few minutes walk. Granada is a beautiful city, but addresses and entries are quite different than the US. Our driver initially had some trouble find the place, but once we got there it was easy to get around. The space was just as advertised, in both pictures and description. It was very clean and we used the dip pool in the courtyard way more than expected. Margarita was excellent to communicate with and quick to respond. We were very happy with the stay and would recommend the space to anyone coming to Granada. The electric allowance is tight, but as they say, electric is very expensive and you have to watch how much you use. Our party of 6 used the a/c quite a bit and had to pay $15 extra at the end. A very small price to pay for an excellent stay!

Our stay in this beautiful authentic colonial house has been truly a joy. Belia explained everything very well upon arrival and she made sure we got everything we needed. We stayed with two small families and the layout was perfect ( 4 bedrooms, one with 4 single beds all with aircon). We also were very pleased with Martha who took care of the daily maintenance every morning (cleaning). Be aware that electricity in Nicaragua is expensive and only a part of what you might use is covered ( $5,- per day excess is payed at the end of your stay by reading of the meter). We used aircon during the night so therefor we had to pay some excess. Anyway beside this our stay was just wonderful and very relaxing. Granada and this house are the perfect match, we loved it!
Host Response
Dear Elena, thank you for your nice comment; as already explained to you I made a mistake on electricity credit, as it is 10$/day credit for 7/8 persons and not 5$, therefore I reimbursed you 20$ through Airbnb.

Photos don’t do these place Justice. Bigger then photos imply. Very well kept. Spacious kitchen and rooms. Beautiful decoration, appropriate to the home style. Would recommend this place for anyone looking for a beautiful home to stay in Granada. The pool is small. That it shows in the photos, also not deep. Perfect for relaxing. We had a group of 8 and we never felt crowed. There are 2 dinning room, plenty of seating at both. Really enjoyed our time.

Read the other reviews as well. We would not stay here again and I would not recommend you to stay here either. I had to pay extra the day we were to arrive to have use of the whole house and we were asked to pay extra for electricity in cash upon arrival. I’ve stayed in dozens of AirBNB’s in Nicaragua and never had this type of negative experience. The house manager inspected the house before we left and said everything was great, however, I received a report from AirBNB saying the owner wanted $90 in more additional fees to deep clean the house. I was literally shocked! After paying $138 extra for all the bedrooms to be made available to us and paying for electricity now she wanted more money to deep clean the house. It honestly felt like extortion. This was not a good experience and I would look for another home to rent if you plan to go to Granada.
Host Response
It is difficult indeed to deal with bad faith people. We always rent the house in full, it is ridiculous to say that Kara had to pay additional fee to get access to the whole house. Pricing is based on quantity of people, she applied for 6 and then said that it was 10 people to stay, so we ask her to cover the extra persons. We accepted pet provided they do not go into the rooms: she did not respect this basic rule. When Kara left, there were dog poo and pee on the floor, dirty papers in a corner, we had to throw away some dirty towels and make extra cleaning, I feel confortable to ask the responsible person to pay for extra work and extra cleaning, it is a matter of consideration for the next visitors to come! As regards electricity, this is described in the description of the house: electricity is expensive indeed in Nicaragua, we provide a basic credit for fan and daily use, but if the visitors want to use the aircon, we understand it is their decision and responsibility; extra payment is based on Kwh cost.

The house looks nicer and bigger than in the pictures. Our kids loved the pool and the hammock. We loved the space and the airconditioned bedrooms. Location is quit and peaceful, but close to the center of Granada, all facalities (bank, restaurants, supermarket) are nearby. The cleaning staff are friendly and very good. We had some initial problems w/ wifi, but this was resolved quickly by the housekeeper. Our biggest regret is that we couldn't stay any longer but had to home.

Margarita together with her local house manager were great hosts. Very communicative and helpful. For us the house was in fact even better than the profile photos and it’s location perfect just a couple of blocks from the Central Park. There were a lot of mosquitos so be prepared to bring repellant and be vigilant shutting doors at dusk and dawn. There was a peculiar arrangement regarding electricity consumption whereby we were asked to leave a cash deposit with meter readings at check in/out. For an eight night stay with three adults and two children we consumed US$50 worth of the deposit we left and the remainder was returned to us. We were neither careful nor wasteful. Not sure why this isn’t priced in the nightly fee but no issue from our perspective. We would happily stay again and would be pleased to recommend the house to others.
Host Response
Hello Edward. Thank you for visiting La Gran Sultana! We will try to improve our pictures to put it in line with the reality! As regards the mosquitos, you are right it might be an issue and this is not specific to our house, it is citywide (and probably nationwide) sometimes in the year. We are very cautious to avoid puddles of water, the pool is cleaned twice a week and the pump is regularly in action. The windows are equipped with mosquito net. The manager decided to fumigate the house to resolve the issue, but indeed repellant is a must as well as closing the doors at dawn and dusk. As Regards electricity, I share your point of view: our challenge is that consumption of electricity KWh is very much according visitors: some are cautious and switch off the aircon whenever they are not in, some consider it is open bar and maintain a freezing temperature. Electricity is expensive indeed in Nicaragua, we found that providing a basic credit of electricity /day included in the price according quantity of people was a fair proposal.

My group and I had a great stay at La Gran Sultana! It was very roomy to accommodate for a large group and we did not feel crammed. We felt safe in the neighborhood and enjoyed how close it was to attractions and restaurants.

Probably is a place best suited for groups or families, not a couple as in our case, as there are many bedrooms and beds. I estimate as many as 30-35 rocking chairs, at least another dozen upright chairs, two large tables for meals seating together probably 16-18 people. Owner, cleaning lady, and property supervisor all very friendly. Large kitchen. Somewhat colonial style, not a lot. Safe wide street. Central location.

I stayed in this lovely home for a week recently. The house is incredibly clean, the kitchen well stocked, and the pool is an oasis. I had the best sleeps! The house is also ideally situated near everything but still is incredibly quiet. One of my favourite things about staying here was getting to know the house manager, Belia, who is an incredibly warm and kind woman. She even drove me all the way to Managua and back for an errand. Margarita is also very friendly communicative. I will definitely be back! Gracias por todo Belia y Margarita!

The house is very rich and colorful. It gives a peaceful atmosphere. The pool was perfect for my 5 year old. In the main room there was a reclining couch which was a nice surprise and helpful for my 6 week old baby's night distance. The location of the house is privileged. You can walk to all the most touristic places in downtown. Overall a nice house, nice family that takes care of it. Experience line.

All around great stay. The place is HUGE with the great colonial touches that make Granada amazing: open concept, high ceilings, courtyard etc… The only thing to really be mindful is energy usage. They charge for electricity. We arrived around 7p and left around 10a, and were barely in the house, we ended up paying $2 USD. If you are big on AC that could probably jump up significantly. All in all, I would definitely stay there again!
Host Response
Thank you Eduardo. As regards electricity, the house manager should not have invoiced you with 2$, I owe you a beer next time!. Nevertheless we believe it is important to call the attention of visitors (specifically foreignors ) about the VERY high price of electricity in Nicaragua (0,40US$/KWh)!. We understand it is more transparent to provide a credit per day for electricity included in the renting and beyond it is the decision of the renter to pay attention of the aircon installed in the bedrooms.

The house itself was beautiful and the location was great. The only issue I had was once I was given a time to pick up the keys, they asked for us to come back later because they were still cleaning it, completely understand. Came back and the house still wasn’t cleaned. The 200$ deposit once the house is given was ok for me but didn’t give me a receipt which I found odd. I booked this home because they offered 3 bedrooms and it was 3 people staying there. When they gave us the house they only opened two rooms. When I sent the host a message she told me why would I need the 3rd room if only 3 people were staying in the house. One of the rooms had 3 twin beds so she assumed it would be enough for us just to be in 2 rooms. I booked this place because I wanted each of us to have our OWN privacy and she didn’t see it that way. When I asked if she can open the third room, she assumed there was going to be more people staying in the home, which was not the case. Overall, i would recommend anyone this home but just be a little more detailed in your stay with this host....
Host Response
Let me say I disagree with the way Gabriela is presenting her stay, still I agree with the last comment she made: it is important to communicate to get what you need! In fact we never saw her: she sent her nephew/son to get the keys, the boy had no idea about the split of the rooms, and no request was made to get 3 different rooms. Communication with her has been very low, either by mail or in person. On top the booking was a last minute one, and at this period of the year (between Christmas and New Year), it is uneasy to organize. This is a house, there is no 24h/7 service.

The house is beautiful and the location is great ;however there is a security deposit the owner tells you the day before you arrive (300.00 US) and a cap on the electricity (8.00 US a day). It's a lot of money a night to have a cap on the power. If the listing notifies you of this instead of the night before it would be great.
Host Response
Dear Allyson, The cap on electricity is indeed described on the website: "In the renting price is included an electricity amount of 15US$/day (for 8 people, half if 4 people). Over that amount, we will ask you to pay the difference. We do that because electricity is scarce in Nicaragua and extremely expensive, and this is the only way to get people aware and reasonable". We ask a deposit as an easy way to settle any broken part in the house by the renter or excess of electricity. It is returned whenever the renter leaves the house.

The hosts were extremely helpful and responsive in helping me plan a few days in and around Granada with my two young children. They arranged a car and driver and suggested some places. The home is gorgeous -- big and open with a nice and well-maintained garden and plunge pool and close to the main square and restaurants. The house manager Sra. Bhelia kindly welcomed us and helped us get started; the housekeeper kept the place very clean. Only two things to point out that were not listed on Airbnb: When we arrived, the house manager required us to give her a $200 USD deposit, which she returned our last night. And she said the hosts requested a $10/day "electricity fee" which was not mentioned anywhere in the listing. Because of this, I declined to pay. Overall, though, Casa Sultana was a great home for a few days and I would highly recommend it.
