This place is AMAZING! My husband and I needed some quiet time away from NY and this was the perfect place. It was gorgeous, clean, roomy and so quiet. Cristian was very helpful in helping us book a tour of the national park, transportation, incredible massages and a delicious restaurant reservation. Chef Juan cooked most of our meals for our stay and his food is delicious! Every meal was better than the next. Everyone was so nice and helpful. We felt extremely safe here. I highly recommend this destination. We will be back!

Thanks -Lovely week

Host Response

Thank you James! We appreciate your confidence in us to deliver your family a five star experience. We look forward to your return to paradise.

Let me start with all the positives… the home is at the end of the road nestled in an awesome location with stunning views of the surrounding area and ocean. The sunsets were incredible. We were also pleasantly surprised when we came home from an excursion to find our laundry had been done and the house had been cleaned (although it was a little unnerving she had been through all our things while we were out… but we were happy to have clean clothes and a clean place). The home itself is beautiful, but it is starting to show some wear. Here are a few things I did not anticipate and/or would have expected for a home like this… some basics were lacking (e.g. ice maker did not work, no paper towels, the water dispenser bottle was empty, missing AC remote for one room, no extra garbage bags, one pool light fell out and was floating in the water that we fixed, etc.) I also assumed the washer & dryer would be available for our use (my fault, not theirs). Due to the location, the pool fills with bugs, leaves, and A LOT of fuzzy things that fall from the trees. Every time we used the pool, we spent about 10-15 minutes cleaning it. It gets pretty nasty within about 12 hours. I took a couple pictures, but everything from flies, to plants, to beetles, to little lizards. It looks like it was set up to be an infinity style pool, but water was not running over the edge while we were there. I think that might help push the debris over the edge and down into the filter, but I wonder if they shut it off because it was clogging the filter (it is a lot of debris). Finally, they recently started construction on a home right next door. Workers were there early in the morning until about 5pm every day but Sunday, so I would anticipate construction noise for several months to come. You can see the workers from the edge of the pool and they can see you, so semi-private during the day. If you are out and about, not really an issue, but if you are planning to spend a lot of time relaxing our lounging at the house just be aware. We did not see any animals near the home aside from iguanas and I wonder if that was due to the construction noise/debris. You could definitely hear them (the animals), especially at night and early in the morning. With regards to the drive… it is steep as others have mentioned, and the road is not the best, but you do not need a 4x4. We rented a rear wheel van and did just fine. If you are looking for seclusion and a beautiful view, this is a great spot, just be aware of these minor caveats.

Our visit to the area was made perfect with our stay at Shangri La. The home is beautiful and lives up to the photos, but the views are more breathtaking in person. The home is high on the mountain with stunning views. We saw scarlet macaws flying by during the day and heard howler monkeys in the distance early mornings and evenings. It's incredibly peaceful up there. The drive up the mountain was a challenge, but even though our small SUV didn't have four-wheel drive we were able to make the incredibly steep climb to the top. We drove one other time before we left. All other times we needed to get anywhere we messaged Michael, the concierge for the property, and he arranged for a driver to pick us up from the house and take us back when when we needed. Michael helped to make our stay even more wonderful. He booked us a private ATV tour and set us up with a private tour guide in the Manuel Antonio national forest. Michael also gave us great recommendations whenever I messaged him, and his responses were close to immediate. He is incredibly knowledgable, helpful and friendly. Anything you need, Michael can help you with. A cleaner came on Wednesday and additionally did any laundry we needed. It was extremely helpful before our trip home. Be sure to tip them for all their kindness and hard work. Overall, I highly recommend staying at Shangri La. The house is private, large, inviting and well decorated and furnished. We loved being surrounded by all trees and nature with a gorgeous ocean view. It left us with some amazing memories.

Brandilyn’s home is located at the very top of the hillside making the views the most spectacular in all of Manuel Antonio in my opinion. The sunsets here are truly a sight to behold. The home itself is nothing short of exquisite. It feels like a private resort. Each day we saw Toucans close by, and Macaws flying in the distance. If you are fortunate enough to be visiting in the next month, there is a Macaw nesting just off the drive up to the home. We got very lucky one morning and had Two White Face monkeys visit and once they left, the Titi monkeys came over which really made our stay extra special. There are also iguanas on the property and sometimes they get on the roof :)) We visited Manuel Antonio park and I would *HIGHLY* recommend hiring Viviana as your tour guide. As others have stated, without a tour guide you will miss 95% of wildlife in the park. As far as restaurants nearby, we tried many and my recommendations are below: Agua Azul - Amazing food, service, great drinks, view and very inexpensive yet better food than some higher priced restaurants in the area. Gabriella’s at Marina Pez Vela - Stunning views of the marina at sunset, great service, delicious food. El Avion - Not a favorite for food, but it’s kind of a must try once while in the area for views and the experience as it’s an airplane :) Lastly, please make sure to utilize Michael, the concierge. He’s wonderful and can arrange anything you need from tickets/guide in Manuel Antonio park to groceries in home. Highly recommend Brandilyn’s home if you’re considering a rental in the area.

We rent the house for 10 days. Absolutely amazing and comfy house. Everything was working great and we thought the house was even more beautiful than on pictures. Activities were so easy to organise with the help of mike. We had the chef at home and yoga class by the pool. The housekeeper came home 4 days during the trip. In our view, it is the perfect place to live a vacation in the covid situation. We could get all the private tours we wanted. Not too crowded. And the nurse came at home conveniently by the end of the vacation with a e-mail result in less than 24hours. Everything was handled so easily, gave the peace of mind we needed. Pura Vida!

I'll Start Off With What To Expect. When The Host Reaches Out To You To Give You The Concierge Information I Recommend You Reach Out Immediately And I Say That Because We Wasted Alot Of Time Trying To Figure Things Out And Being "Proactive" The Concierge Can And Will Help With EVERYTHING From The Start To Finish. If You Do Decide To Get A Rental Make Sure You Get A 4x4 This Is Very Important !!! The Concierge Is Basically All You Need He Is Very Attentive And Responds Immediately. So I Definitely Recommend Downloading Whats App It's Literally The Primary Source Of Communication With Everyone. When You Go There Is A Drawer In The Kitchen That Has Pamphlets With Alot Of Things To Do, Even Information On Getting A Rental. All You Have To Do Is Inform Your Concierge Of Whatever It Is You Want And He Will Orchestrate It For You. I Gave This Air BNB 5 Stars Because That Was The Option. 5 Stars Underates This Place. Also The Pictures Are 100% Accurate The View, The Rooms, Just Everything. Thank You All Again For Making This Experience 1 To Remember. It Has Encouraged Me To Travel More. There Is A World I Need To See. Also Bug Repellent Is Highly Recommended. We Were Fine The First Day Or 2 But After The Laundry Was Done It Seem Like Thats When The Mosquitoes Started Becoming A Problem And You Are In A Rain Forest.
