Thanks so much for a beautiful stay on your school bus! To set realistic expectations, this is a former hippie community, nestled in a jungle garden setting and everything is open to the elements to some degree, so things are a bit “rustic”- go prepared to get back to nature! It’s also advisable to have transport as it’s fairly remote, though there is a small local pizza bar within walking distance. That said, Julie was the most amazing host and a beautiful person. She happily gave me a cheap ride to where I wanted to go and came to pick me up when I was done. The more set back location makes it a lovely peaceful place to slow down. I was the only guest at the time but its origins mean it is set up to be the ideal place for socialising during busier times. Whiskers the kitten was perfect company! There were 2 fans on the bus and the shade of the trees in the garden meant the place was comfortable even in the Ometepe heat. Also highly recommend trying Julie’s delicious kombucha!

The stay at Julie's place was wonderful. The area is quiet, the place is clean, and the buses make for a unique experience. A great place for anyone who wants to relax and get closer to nature. However, a scooter or motorcycle is recommended, as the routes are otherwise quite challenging by bike. All in all, I can highly recommend the property!

This is what Airbnbs are made of - to live in a “home” different from yours. Waking up in the bus everyday felt like waking up in a dream ✨ Alf shukran (Arabic for a thousand thank yous) to Julie, for creating such a wondrous space. It was an honour to meet such a beautiful being 🙏🏼 She always made sure we felt right at home, and was always a gracious host. Hubby works online with lots of video calls, which was our only concern - all worked out okay during our stay, especially with the solar power, and backup internet. Location was great as we felt we were in the middle of all the places we wanted to discover. Overall, it’s definitely one of our favourite stays! Already missing our bus home 🚌🌿

The hosts were very nice and we loved the concept but much more upkeep needed. It seems as though they keep the listing with the VW van active even when it is rented out. We booked it and then they told us that that space was already rented but they had other options that were similar. The other options were 2 very old trailers that weren’t nearly as nice as the pics of the VW van but were the same price.

Sorry you had this experience. Unfortunately making a last minute booking in the evening 10 minutes before arrival left little time to fully prepare. This is a rustic hostel made up of old caravans….

Our stay at Caravan Hostel on Ometepe island was pure magic. From the moment we walked onto the property with our backpacks, we felt at home. Everything radiated warmth, freedom, and authenticity, exactly what you hope to find as a traveler. The place itself is a little paradise: surrounded by nature, full of peace yet alive with positive energy. You can feel the love and care put into every detail, which makes it easy to settle in completely. For us, three young backpackers in search of meaningful connections and places with true character, this stay was perfect. It felt familial and genuine, as if we were briefly part of something bigger. We leave with hearts full of gratitude, countless beautiful memories, and the hope of returning one day. Caravan Hostel is not just a place to sleep, it is an experience that touches you. :))

The accommodation was rather cute! We were lucky enough to observe the wildlife up close, especially howler monkeys! The stay was largely pleasant, but we only stayed 2 nights instead of 3. Julie was, however, very kind. We had little water to take our showers and the kitchen was not very inviting. In short, a total immersion in the jungle! I recommend it for someone who isn't looking for luxury.

Great accommodation. Had a large school bus that was clean and comfortable. The property has been landscaped with lots of love. The big wind chime at the cafe had a totally calming effect on me.

A place that's out of the ordinary! You should expect to be in the middle of nature, but the place is beautiful!

Our stay was a unique experience. It's super individual and there's so much love in every corner. You can just feel comfortable, this is a place to relax and at the same time offers the opportunity to get in touch with great people. The bus we slept in was clean, cozy and you had a lot of space. The shared toilet and shower have also been clean at all times. There is even a kitchen and fire pit. Ometepe would certainly not have been the same without this place. We just had a wonderful time! Thanks Julie, you were a super accommodating and lovely host!

Exceptional accommodation on the bus or campervan with hippie vibes. A shared kitchen and campfire place invite you to have conversations with fellow travelers. You can also retreat well and enjoy privacy in the van. For mobility, it is best to rent a scooter or motorcycle. Clear recommendation!

You can feel in the Caravan Hostal that a lot of love has been put into the village. Unfortunately, it's been a little run down in the meantime. It gives the impression that it has not been well maintained for a long time (e.g. things like the toilet seat or outdoor benches are partially broken, most of the dishes in the kitchen are very dusty, the paintings of the buses and the outdoor wipes are no longer as colorful as they appear in the pictures). We still felt comfortable, which was mainly due to Julie, the friendly and always helpful hostess. To explore the island, go shopping and eat, you definitely need a scooter or the like. In the immediate vicinity is only a pizzeria and the bus runs only once an hour. But then it's really well located to explore both parts of the island. In addition, you should know that the caravan inside is not very high. So tall people (like us) have to duck in their heads ;)

Hi thanks so much for staying with us. Sorry for the few details you expressed. We actually just repainted right after your stay and the toilet seat was broken by another guest and already repaired:) I will give extra attention to the dust and benches. Thank you:)
